Sleeping Dogs PC Performance Thread

Whenever I try to take screen with FRAPS, the entire image is black :/

And yeah, Normal AA + SMAA (Ultra preset) does a pretty damn good job. I get a steady 60 fps.

I'm on the 305.67 driver with "0x084010F5" set for "SLI compatability bits (DX1x)"

i5 2500K (@ 4.6 Ghz)
2 x EVGA GTX 560s
16 GB RAM

There is some strange bug where the game stutters in some areas when conditions are sunny, but runs perfectly during nightime/rainy scenes. Hopefully it can be fixed in a patch/driver update.

Locking the FPS to 60 and turning Vsync on completely solved my stuttering problem.
The HD6870 is one little motherfucker, I didn't know it would run so well this game at 1080p maxed out.

Edit: NOPE. Driving is such a POS, what does it stutter so bad when driving? Arrgg!

It's funny to think that you've developed such an incredibly AA spotting expertise... with the end result that you're annoyed by most implementations of it.

Every one of those screenshots look good enough to me. Certainly, there are other factors that reduce the image quality before we start to consider the jagginess on the screen, especially at that resolution.

But to each his own! My personal rule of thumb is to care, but to not care so much that my ability to enjoy the game I'm playing is impacted by less than perfect max performance.

After all, I know the game could always look better through a variety of factors - and the biggest factor towards how good a game looks will always be the art and design of the game, which sadly can't be remedied for most games.

I'm not really an anti aliasing nut. I don't try and force 8xSSAA in every game and then get fed up if I can't make it work. I play every game with either FXAA or SMAA because they're usually good enough for me. But in this case I was just trying to show that despite my best efforts the AA still isn't too great in Sleeping Dogs; and it could be made better if we were allowed to turn off the in-game AA entirely.

Fair enough. But I think the point fell flat given the little to no difference that a normal eye could discern from those pics.

I mean, it's not the best implementation of AA ever, but as far as I can tell playing through, it's not horrible by any stretch.

Haha.

I think only the downsampled shots look good in the comparison above. With Normal AA + SMAA it's even playable.

Well, shit man. That PXAA looks like the quality of FXAA without making the whole image blurrier. Do you have a way to force it into games, and not just on captured frames?

With Extreme AA on?

my 670 drops down to around 20 fps with Extreme AA. Honestly playing on a 27" monitor at 1440p, the AA at normal and high look indistinguishable from each other in motion. You only see the difference in screens. Super high pixel density wins again.

But yeah, the normal AA setting on a 670 will net you 60 FPS like 98% of the time at 1440p

gaddammit, getting the HKShip crashes again. Loving this game but it keeps kicking me out. I also think my gfx card might be overheating cuz I got the dreaded green artifacting screen and it froze on me.

thanks for the link. gonna try this out. sick of the issues i'm having. maybe this will help.

Have you tried downclocking your graphics card? I'm using a GTX 560Ti and it fixed the crashes for me.

Playing this at 1080p with everything maxxed with High AA and Vsync enabled on my M14x and i'm getting 46 fps on average with my only slowdown happening in the cemetery and I got to say, I'm really happy about my purchase, this laptop is a beast :D.

Strange. Both are working together fine for me. Both up to date?

SMAA is definitely working too. I've used the toggle button, and clearly see it going on and off.

You're right turns out Imy Fraps was out of date. Updated and that worked.

I'm having decent enough luck when it comes to the game's performance...except that it crashes every hour or so.

So just like Darksiders 2 this game seems to run way smoother in windowed mode than fullscreen for some reason (GTX570 @ 1080P).

Also, Ambient Occlusion or whatever really seems to make my FPS dive, is this to be expected?

So what Nvidia drivers is everyone using? There seem to be two posted, one in the OP and found another posted in the thread, 305.67. Dont want to install several different drivers and then benchmark it just to find out myself.

Use 305.67, the 67 and 53s were just released back to back almost hence the confusion.

game crashes a fair amount for me, it's pretty annoying. The stutter does seem to go away if I switch to windowed mode, then back to full screen.

its weird how a lot of people are getting crashes and stuttering issues. i got the game today and never had an issue after updating to 1.4, played for about 4 to 5 hrs straight.

i have 304.79 since there wasnt anything higher for the gt 6xxm cards

So, I'm a bit newer to PC gaming. I've got a GTX465. Can I install these 305.67 drivers? Also, how to I do a 'clean install'?

edit: I think I'm getting that 'stuttering' some of you are talking about. Fraps is showing that my framerate isn't dropping below like 45 but it still looks pretty stuttery. And I'm not talking about the camera shake.

all on the max preset, normal aa, no motion blur (I hate it, it's not real)

basically the SSAA kills the fps.

The crossfire scaling is simple amazing (98%)

With v-sync and fps limiter via game I notice some stuttering.

With msi afterburner and the fps limiter built-in (you have to enable the osd) smooth like butter without stuttering

Reducing the screen with alt+tab no stuttering but works only 1 gpu ;)

Same problem here. The framerate tanks on top of the stuttering when driving at high speeds. Which is bizarre because it's smooth as glass on foot.

have you got an intel cpu with HT enabled?

The HT causes some stuttering or try to cap the fps with afterburner.
This tool solved my stuttering problems.

@bronzo

What do you use MSI for?

@all

I can't change my settings in the advanced tab. They jump back as soon as I changed them. It's totally weird.

EDIT:

I'm pretty mad right now. How can they fuck up such a simple thing as a graphic options menu. HOW? I should've never payed full price for that game. Sometimes PC gaming just sucks.

You can use Msi afterburner to limit the frame rate at 60fps 59fps or 120fps (check your monitor specs)

regard the video setting, confirm the change in advanced settings menù with Y button (you will see the saving icon on the top right] on x360 gamepad then press b and don't confirm the changes. I had the same issue too.

Sorry, but that doesn't work. It always resets itself to the old setting when I check back the menu. No matter what weird combination of "save" and "don't save" and whatver I try, it never saves the setting. The steam forums are full of complaints and I'm just pissed. I spent the last two hours to try to configure the game without playing for a second. I have better things to do in my life than shit like this, it's so annoying.

Are you changing the graphics settings during the game or in the main menù?

No, but why would you bother with that? It's like Ubersampling in The Witcher 2.

Uber sampling made it look soo much buttery smooth

GTX 680 sli (x2)
i5 2500k @ 3.4ghz

Wont let me have smooth experience at "extreme" settings over 45-55 fps :/

Are my drivers bad?

Well you were the one quoting someone talking about MAXING the game out.

Extreme would be maxing the game out.

Technically speaking it's maxing it out, but since it's nothing more than a brute force form of AA I guess I don't consider it to be a part of the game. No more than I consider downsampling a part of any game I do it with.

Any chance that other aliasing options will be patched in at a later date? Is such a thing possible?

I have a fairly stout rig, but the hit the framerate takes even on AA High is unacceptable to me.

I'm on Normal AA + SMAA at the moment.

thought it would be a little bit better. normally turn AA off as I dont really care. this is about endurance and smooth frames keep my eyes and head from hurting.

Only just got the game I have an issue where the game has boarders when running full screen. I'm llaying on a pc hooked up to my 42 tv in 1080p never had this problem before. Is there any way to force the game to over scale?

Check out the "Windowed Borderless Gaming" program, it'll let you adjust the screen position. I went with (-2, -2) and it looks fine.

Still getting the occasional stutter/hitch with a GTX 680 and Afterburner, and I mean occasional. Still kind of a bummer, though. Only happens in at least semi-crowded places and it seems to occur more often when I'm driving or during the day. I'm also seeing a consistent stutter in cinematics. Otherwise, the game runs crazy-good.

But, from what I'm gathering, this seems to be a pretty normal experience with this game on nVidia GPUs.

gtx580 sli on everything maxed using the driver and sli bit mentioned in OP.

Average fps...58.2 :(

And the scene when you are walking with Jackie was consistently 40fps lol

Setting AA to high guarantees 60fps though i seen it drop to high 40s when im driving to a mission. Never happens during driving in an actual mission though. I guess the problem is due to it being SLI.
