Small Mario Party 10 (Wii U) boxart

i see people complaining about the car but, what about the non-loop Boards?

the biggest tragedy that killed MP9 and MP Island Tour (3DS) for me is that boards no longer loop like in the old games and they're "get to the goal" boards now. that limits the potential by a lot. remember how many times you did a complete lap in a board in any MP from 1 to 8?
i thought the car was the biggest BS to happen but then we got the 3DS MP that removed the car but still had non-loop boards and it was almost the same shit. the improvement of getting rid of the car is minimal compared to how much the games were ruined by the non-loop boards.

Luigi finally back on the cover

edit- actually ive just noticed him for the first time on the MP9 cover. Thats some wheres waldo shit

You're screwing with me, right? He's not on the cover.
I stared and examined for about 5 minutes straight.

EDIT:

OP made a fake box cover? Here's the one I was looking at:

The JP version has no Wuigi either.

As nice as it would be to have the option of online in MP I'm really struggling to imagine the fun of sitting around playing it for +1hr with no one to interact with. There's gonna be that moment when someone steals a star or screws them over hard in a minigame or something and instead of being able to playfully rage over it with the person next to them their gonna start raging at the game and then if they end up quitting or getting disconnected due to a bad connection then what happens? A CPU takes over? All the time just goes to waste?

It's an equally terrible decision, for sure. Only solace in all of this is that they killed an already terminally ill franchise.

Online multi-player would NEVER work unless they completely redesigned the games to take like 10 minutes instead of 45 minutes. Everyone losing would drop without the social pressure of your friend right next to you.

I won't be joining Mario Party until they ditch the car thing and finally introduce online, I don't wish to play this game against the CPU and I don't have anyone local to play with so, online is a must.

I really loved the Gamecube Mario Party games. Then the Wii iterations came up and 8 looked like a turd and 9 made dice rolls and random chance vastly more integral to an already chance filled series. Hope this one will be fun.

Luigi is featured on the full art (riding a wiggler on the right).

Since I don't have 9 anymore, I can't check if he's actually been put onto the retail cover or if the OP just posted a weird photoshop. :lol

whats your reasoning for picking thos?
2, 5 (I actually confused myself there, meant 5, not 6 :D) and 8 are the ones that had the most staying power on their respective systems within the circle of friends I was playing all the games with - since the games are generally similar, it comes down to small differences, board design and mini-game preference.

N64 - We always came back to 2 (or Sonic Shuffle later on, but that was a short, dark phase).
GC - 4 was kind of a dud and 5 a strong improvement in every way, while 6 and 7 fucked it up with that shitty microphone.
Wii - 8 is the only tolerable one since 9 had the garbage car system.

I think the fact this boxart hit is perhaps an indication that Mario party 10 is the next WiiU title after Kirby (except for Europe)

We haven't seen boxarts for splatoon or yoshi or Mario maker...

....I'm grasping for straws here.

Still can't get hyped about this knowing it still has the dumb car.

The box art is decent enough, but unless I get an "original" mode, I think I'll continue to not RSVP to Mario's recent parties.

So Ive only ever played Martio Party on N64 and Gamecube. If I'm remembering it right it's board game esque.

People are saying this ones on rails in that everyone lands on the same piece together? How do you win then?

there's only like 3 minigames that use mic in MP6. you can pretend ithey don't exist and get the full game experience.

now, MP7 did have like 1/6th of the minigames as mic minigames. that one suffered from that BS. coupled with the 8 player minigames, there were like only 50 normal ones.

Yeah, the microphones is a non-issue.

The real crime was making DK an NPC.

that was MP5's crime. not 6. and many people list 5 as the best of the GC days.

I still have all three original N64 games.

Can't believe there's a 10th entry by now.

it's worth noting they have slowed down a ton after 8.

8 came out in 2007. there were 8 numbered MPs up to 2007. in 7 more years we had just 1 numbered entry (since MP10 isn't out yet)

I know some people hate the randomness of the series, but I think it is a gameplay strength. I also think the same way about randomness being a key part of the fun in games like Smash Bros and Mario kart. Some people just don't like party game balance. It is meant for even the worst player in the room to be competitive. Not everything has to be survival of the fittest. There has to be room for other kinds of game balance.

I have a EU copy of Mario Party 9 (Nintendo Selects), and Luigi is here. Frankly, it was the first thing I've noticed on a box art.
Here's the box art from Nintendo web site:

It is a pretty good cover in spite of the sickening lack of Waluigi.

You win the same way you always do. By having the most things.

The only difference the car makes is that people move together so if you know who's coming up you can potentially affect their turn in some way. Movement is still competitive in that sense.

Honestly, people's hate for the car goes a bit far. It's not bad.

After 8 games (with the 7th and 8th being weak) NINTENDO decides to change it up and people beg for the same old thing again even though it had basically run its course.

That said, if MP10 is more dynamic in the board/movement options, then I'd applaud NINTENDO for finding the balance.

What a crime, no Waluigi on the MP10 cover but he's on the MP9 cover. Dan Ryckert is writing a strongly worded email to Nintendo as I type this.

There's details about the game? They should go with a compilation of the best minigames and maps for the ultimate mario party experience...

Because seriously, 8 was awful (no idea about 9).
