Smash Bros Brawl Dojo Official Update Thread: Goodbye, Cherry-don

Rick Wheeler is out on account of being an ANIME character (I bet that's how Ash got the shaft). Lol

Too bad Samurai Goroh is only an AT. Before I learned the importance of Captain Falcon through Smash Bros. 64, I ALWAYS used him in SNES F-Zero.

Medheus is even more unlikely than Ridley. Not only Marth hasn't been officially unveiled yet, but, even though he has two dragon forms, neither would work very well as playable characters, and there's no way his human form is going to be playable.
He has an Earth dragon form, similar in body shape to Fire Emblem 7's dragons. It could be downsized, I suppose, but would just look weird if smaller. His Dark Dragon form is even worse, though... he looks like an enormous black Chinese dragon. There's no way something with that body shape can be playable.

Again, as Jigs pointed out earlier in the thread, if they could give Fox and Falco workable movesets, certainly they could give Metheus(human) one, and just let one of his Dragon forms be his Final Smash.

And besides, like I said, it would just go over well to help herald FE DS. If Roy could get in simply on the basis that they wanted to advertise for FE6, surely they could bring in another FE1 character to help Marth do the job.

On another note, with FE DS basically being a remake of Marth's game, there's no way in HELL that he's not going to be in this game. He basically being the most recognizable FE personality not withstanding...

Did the characters of Captain Falcon, Samurai Goroh, and the rest even exist in the SNES version of F-Zero? I know their cars were there, but I don't remember the actual drivers being introduced until F-Zero X.

Yeah, they were there in the instruction manual. Just 4 characters, though: Falcon, Goroh, Dr. Stewart, and Pico.

Does anyone honestly believe that Ness is gone? Really?
As Alberto has noted many times, there are people who honestly believe that Luigi is gone. And then there are those who think Ganondorf is gone. To such as these, Ness must surely appear a trifle.

Wow, first time I post in this thread in a looooong time.

Well, what can I say? I think Sakurai and Nintendo are leaving all their big news regarding the game for a time closer to the street date, just to push the hype ball into overdrive. But I agree with some of you here: the updates so far have only served to unhype the game for me, nothing else.

Lucas was supposed to replace Ness in Melee, but Mother 3 got delayed.

It was in Ness' own SSBM Japanese profile:

Right. I'ver heard that a few times, but that isn't exactly proof that they wouldn't have made Ness anyways. I mean just look how clone happy Melee was. Plus Mother 3 had already at that point been shelved from the N64, much like FE 6 was, so the decision wasn't by any means last moment.

I've said it before, but...

I think they could've gotten away with replacing Ness in SSBM without much of a fight from fans. Melee was only the second game, and if they were going to remove anybody with an original moveset, that would have been a dandy time to do it since there weren't the built-in expectations that every original character would be returning. By now, though, Ness has become something of a series staple. And if Lucas' special moves entry is any real indication, SSBM Ness still has an original physical moveset compared to him. I don't see him going away.

How to play Tonight.

How can we play without knowing How to WALK/RUN/JUMP?! Sakurai is slackin.

There are srsly too many featues(from Melee too) that still have to be revealed. Probably enough for another month.

Yeah, but that was 2001. Ness has since received greater exposure (in Japan, anyway) because of Mother 1+2. Besides, having now appeared in both Smash Bros. games, Ness is more established in the series.

The denial is strong in this thread...also anyone wanna take a crack at my question?

Well, Bowser Jr. might get Shadow Mario as a transformation if he gets in. Hopefully, though, Bowser Jr. will not get into Brawl.

I expect Ness will, at best, be a costume swap of Lucas. Their special moves are almost identical. Someone might point out that their normal moves seem to be quite a bit different, but I don't see why, out of all the possible PSI abilities in the Mother games, they would choose three moves that Ness already as and have the fourth one nearly identical to one of Ness' moves. If they were going to have Ness in, don't you think they'd do as much as possible to differentiate him from Lucas?

Buh? There are exactly three differences between Ness' moves and Lucas' moves:

1) PK Fire flies straight in the air
2) PK Flash comes with a freezing effect and a name change
3) PSI Magnet is held in front of him instead of surrounding him

If they were going to differentiate them, I'd expect them to use, like, PK Ground, Brainshock, and make PK Freeze not a clone of PK Flash.

The largest gap in Smash's lineup, and the biggest question mark is obviously Olimar.

The other franchises are pretty well covered and you know the characters you're anticipating are yet to be revealed. After these months have passed I'm convinced that Animal Crossing is just a stage, trophy, and items, with no character.

And thats the real deal breaker - the special moves

i don't know how trustworthy it is, but wiki on smash brothers talks about how Sakurai wanted lucas in since SSBM but was left out due to the delay of Mother 3, so it could mean Ness is gone, but it never really eliminates the possibility that Ness will get a new move templates

If SSBB Ness exists, we don't know what his moves are. There's nothing to say he would still have PK Fire, PK Flash, and PSI Magnet in the first place. (And also nothing to say he wouldn't, of course.) Nobody argues that Ganondorf and Zelda are guaranteed to retain their SSBM movesets, after all.

I think Wario is about all the only new Mario supporting character left they could've added, so I don't think we'll be seeing any more Mario characters in this game.

I can't think of anymore noteworthy Mario characters that would deserve to be playable in Smash Bros. To be honest I thought making Princess Toadstool a playable character in a fighting game was kind of a stretch.

Toad keeps getting snubbed =(

Lucas also has a seemingly completely different set of A moves than Ness and he also has a rope snake, which Ness lacks.

Toad has been relegated to a generic species name now. And besides Peach probably has any moves they could've attributed to Toad. She already picks up and throws turnips, what else has Toad ever done in a game? And don't bring up Wario's Woods, because he hardly did anything unique in that game.

Waluigi, Toad, Koopa Troopa and Princess Daisy all say hi. Or Goomba! :lol

It would be totally awesome if the Square Enix character (well, if one exists) turns out to be Geno. Just getting that out there. I'm sure it's been said in this thread already.

Hardly. I don't think I'd want generic enemies as playable characters in these games, and besides whats a Goomba going to do? Would his final smash be walking in your way?

And lame knock-off Mario characters have no place being playable in Smash Bros.

I mean this is Smash Bros. Not Super Mario Fighting Bros. (featuring Link and Sonic).

I think the series has reached it's Mario character limit at this point.

IYO, and thats what is important

We don't need less characters, we need more!

Octorok vs. Goomba , Koopa Troopa vs. New Age Retro Hippie, the possibilities are endless!

You asked about how many Mario supporting characters they could possibly add, and I listed them. Personally, I'd rather not see Daisy or Waluigi in the game since they're fairly worthless, but I'd be psyched to play as Koopa Troopa.

And if Goomba were a character, I'd friend you and pwn you with him so hard. =P

I think we have a good chance of finally getting a character update tonight, doods. Wednesday was a big character day in the past... and I still have hope that December is going to start offering epic updates. Cross your fingers!

Speaking of Pikmin, if Olimar ends up NOT making it as a playable character... for sure he'd have to at least be an AT, right? Pikmin HAS to have some sort of representation in this game beyond a gallery trophy.

It's a really good sign that we haven't even seen a hint of a Pikmin-related AT yet. Really starting to make me think Olimar has a chance! :)

Not really, in my opinion. Daisy could easily be differentiated from Peach enough so that she could warrant as playable. Not that I care about her, really, but just saying.

Still, if there was any "Mario series" character that I would really want to see in, it would be Mouser, from SMB2/USA, for a surprise return after so many years. Why they brought back the Shy Guys and Bob-ombs, but not this interesting character with a sheer love for making things go boom, is beyond me, but it would be interesting if one of the many other interesting characters that have pretty much only appeared in USA would make a return appearance. He could summon Fry Guy, Claw Grip and TryClyde for his Final Smash! :lol

To this day, I still don't understand why some people get such a hard-on about this guy. RPG had a number of interesting characters and concepts. To me, Geno was neither of these. I would have rather had Jonathan Jones as another party character, personally. Perhaps he would have been enough so that I would have bothered fielding some one beyond Peach and Bowser all the time. :D

Besides, I think that if SE was going to get any representation, they would go for some one who would do more to represent the company as a whole, not just a minority. More than likely, it probably be something cute and funny, like a Moogle Black Mage and DQ Slime tag-team combo.

Or Cloud.

That's right, I said it.

I'm just saying I'd rather see other characters. I'm not hating on those Mario characters (well, not the Toads, Goombas, and Koopas). The Mario series is without a doubt my favourite video game franchise and I love Goomba.

I would just rather see guys like Ridley, Kraid, Tingle, Andy, Tom Nook, Little Mac, Olimar or even Stanley become playable rather than generic enemy from said franchise. Do you guys want Monoeyes to be playable or Waddle-dees?

I like it better when these type of guys show up in the capacity they serve best. As weakling enemies that pester you in the single player levels that lead up to real fights against noteworthy banner characters.

I predict New Stage!!!

Sakurai's Shit!!!

We've included so much in this game, I figured you might as well me able to brawl on my shit.

Oh! It's really slippery!

There might be surprises hidden inside. You'll have to brawl for awhile to uncover them!

Look out for the flush! Oh no! We're sinking!!!

Oh yeah, I don't disagree on that (well, maybe Tingle :b), all I'm saying is we can have those weakling characters AND the Ridley's, Kraid's and Tom Nook's of the world. And the way things have been going so far, we might get just that

This would be the best joke character in the history of time. Move over, Game & Watch!

(I'm serious, I would love for this to happen :O You could give a goomba a bunch of rad headbutting moves. Maybe even a breakdance move where it spins around upside-down on it's head!)

You know, if Olimar is playable how would you even imagine that working? For me it would just seem really weird if they just made him about the same scale as the other characters.

I know that's what's happened with Kirby and Pickachu, but Olimar's tiny size is pretty much what makes him so distinctive.

I can't imagine him being playable and really working unless he's really tiny compared to the other characters. Like a fourth of Mario's height at most. And he'd compensate for this size hindrance by throwing pikmin around, or being constantly flanked by his pikmin army.

I think he'd be a really tough character to make playable, because of that. That might be what ultimately makes him a better assist trophy.

MrCheez, I like the way you think, that taunt would be awesome

Although it would be pretty easy to homerun bat him off the stage I'd imagine lol

I predict this update will be:

YOU LOSE!
YOU GET NOTHING!

Kirby is 8 in tall...Olimar can be scaled, its a faulty reason to exclude him based on that

Maybe the smash world is all Olimar's size =O
