The stage/char selection screens better not be final...

edit: I know a few of the announced chars aren't up, but I would be expecting much smaller buttons for more unannounced chars.

I for one hope the boxart isn't the finalized version--it's ruining my hopes for seeing a girl Pokemon Trainer alternate costume. Plus it needs more Captain Falcon, Lucas, Donkey Kong, Ike, or Ice Climbers instead of double dipping on the Pokemon, Kirby, and Mario franchises.
I dont want the current boxart to be the finalised one either. Its pretty decent, but they could make it better. They should make the boxart similar to the japanese boxart for Super smash bros.

Okay, guys, calm down. This is clearly NOT the actual default character select screen. It just has demo characters. If it was the actual character select, you'd expect Kirby, Zelda, and the Ice Climbers at least, eh?

You can earn most characters by playing through Adventure Mode: The Subspace Emissary. For those of you who look forward to those encounters, I recommend you clear this mode before playing Basic Brawl.

this is pretty huge.

no more long as versus play sessions to unlock Mewtwo.

By the way...Sakurai's method of dealing with disconnections is so simple, I'm frankly surprised nobody else thought of it first.

wtf so we won't know if a person disconnects? FUCK ONLINE!

It's great but you'll probably be playing against CPUs half the time, since there are many disconnecter, not that it matters.

I think this update is great if you read the bottom of it. I'm replaying through melee now since my file got corrupted and it is annoying to unlock characters.

I think it's pretty smart to be honest. Though its a good thing the CPU won't engage during friend's matches.

Hold on! You can’t tell it’s a CPU!
XD

Anyway:

You can cast one vote for the stage you want to play. A stage is chosen by lottery from among those voted on by the players.

Also, the items that are turned off in the item switch are also determined by lottery.

He doesn't make it clear if all the items are randomly on/off or if it takes a random player's item preferences. It'll be amazing if it's a random person's item preferencs. I'll just turn all mine off and I'll sometimes get games without items =O

Edit: I overreacted and didn't look at screens very closely. Never mind. And I'm sure you'll be able to customize things exactly how you want for friends matches, which is what really matters.

I agree that it's smart but either way F it lol. I don't really care though since there aren't stats when playing Basic Mode.

So the takeaway from this is, play Subspace Emissary first. Well that's no biggie, I was probably going to do that anyway.

Decent update, like that they swap in CPU players in case you drop. And it's not like you know who you're fighting against anyway. ...wonder what level CPU player it'd swap in though...that makes a difference.

I wonder how many is "most"?

And I was wondering how he's handle this. I mean, if the hidden characters were integral to the story, encountering them would spoil it for you, wouldn't it? But it would kinda suck for them to leave them out of the story just because they're not default characters.

The Wii console is trying to connect in earnest! And it succeeds!

Why do I find this so amusing?

Also, I believe that secret characters are still not going to be revealed on the Dojo.

Think about it: if Sakurai wanted us to "look forward to those encounters" and finish Subspace Emissary before going online, then why would he show us unlockables on the site?

...Has there ever been a time where Sakurai gave a fake screenshot?

Also, biggest update of November/Dec. 3-7 confirmed?

All the characters there are from the demo. No Zelda, Kirby, etc.

Uhh... so we have absolutely no control over item appearance in online matches? Or settings at all, for that matter? Are we really going to be forced to play nothing but 3-minute Brawls?

Uhhhhh. :(

For matchmaking, yes.

For friend battles, no.

I wonder what the difficulty setting will be for the CPU that takes over for disconnections. Level 9?

Or maybe they'll have 100 levels of difficulty in this game! We need a difficulty sliders update! =P

Holy crap what? You didnt just leave a one on one match on over night? Crazy

the first time I did, the second time I unlocked all the characters it was by playing a shitload of multiplayer matches with friends.

and if Sakurai is concerned about hidden character spoilers, he would release the game the same day for both US and Japan...Europe can be also if they want.
