totaly useless update,i can't believe we had people complain about bonsly but not this, really we can't get lower than this, they could just do a notice post with "no update for today" and it still would have been better than this

I still don't get how this being in the game (complete with name/configuration stored) was supposed to be a given, something not even worth elaborating on.

It's a neat idea, but honestly, for me, it serves no real purpose. I barely have four friends in town that like Smash. And if I did have more, it's not that hard to switch around.

Really useful when you have like 10 or more though.

It would have be awesome if at the bottom of the update he said "and this is why I delayed brawl. I hope you all enjoy it very much!"

The difference between an official rotation option and winner out/loser out is that the Wii can record statistics/adjust handicap based on who is playing versus just which controller is playing.

This is a gret update. Certainly Melee could have used this, and it's more fair than just deciding "loser-out" after every match. Sakurai really does think of everything.

So let's say that there's only 1 gamecube controller and there are two people who prefer the GC controller. If the guy on the GC controller keeps winning will it just keep me out forever, or will it just rotate me in to a Wii controller? And if I manage to beat him with the Wii controller will it let me use his GC controller?

They really should just make the updates weekly for the time being. I check for this update every morning when I wake up, and it doesn't help anything to constantly disappoint fans.

You could just stop checking. :p

Great update today.

How can anyone be disappointed after everything they've revealed on the Dojo?

Cool update. In college we would constantly have 6 plus people playing and we would round robbin all the time.

This is for players like that.

I will probably never use it personally, but at a time I would have and I am glad to see it added.

This is exactly what it needed as it automates the bitching of the losers or winners, plus, when you switched out, you lost your knockout counter.

Plus personlaised controls.

Plus names & guests with working auto handicap percentages

Plus people arriving LTTP

And people going home

as said above not sure what it does for two people who select the same control method that the house only has one of (Ie classic controllers - probably lets whoever has it keep it and the other gets a 2nd choice) but seriously - if you want to play a certain way bring it with you. :D

Ed: and I frequently party game, usually around 4-8 people on a projector so this is a great mode for us.

This is a pointless update for me. Whenever I'm playing melee with friends, we just decide between us who gets to play when. We dont need the wii to decide when each of us should play.

This doesn't seem very useful. For the few times we have more than four people, we tend to just pass the controller around not give a shit who is who. Hehe. Bonsly walks around.

Because the updates over the last mont havent been as big as they used to be.

Ive given up hoping for a big update. I think sakurai has revealed all the starting characters and he isnt going to be revealing anymore because the rest of them are unlockable characters. The only time I see us getting a big update is when sakurai gives us the last update.

I'm pretty certain this feature wasn't in Melee. If it was, it must have been hidden deep within the menus.

It wasn't

Go to Tournament Mode, change the game mode to Winner Out or Loser out. Voila.

Yeah, IIRC melee "locked" you into one character, and then only had a "loser out" or a "winner out" option for how the the switching off is determined. This updated version is going to be way more useful. I think we might end up using this at school when there are like 10 players waiting for a match...

Nah, you could change characters by pressing on the D-Pad or Control Stick or L or R or something stupid. They never told you how though. I doubt we'd use it considering people come and go every hour as a class starts/finishes.

I don't think that's the case. Why haven't they shown the opening yet?

A slightly edited version of SSBM's opening (hiding the Zelda gameplay footage) was shown at E3... Brawl is less than 2 months from release, and there's still no sign of opening footage.

Yeah; no. That was what I hoped for after Metroid Prime: Hunters; And it didn't happen...
MP:H did help DS games. Nintendo added voice chat to Pokemon DS and Puzzle League DS wifi modes. I believe the upcoming Advance Wars DS will also feature voice chat as well.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is true. Looking at who we've seen so far, if you count Samus/ZSS as one and remove Snake and Sonic since they're likely to be unlockables, you have an even 20 characters. That would be a good amount to start with. There'd be nothing odd about this assortment being the starter characters, since they all fit pretty well. It'd be odd for Captain Falcon to revert to a hidden character after being default in Melee, but it's not much of a problem. Luigi and 'Puff have always been hidden so no problems there. And any weird Mr. G&W style characters (such as, well, Mr. G&W) fit better as unlockables. None of the Melee hidden characters were revealed on its site until after release, and Snake and Sonic were revealed in advance to hype things up (I feel pretty confident that if the game hadn't been delayed, we still wouldn't know about Sonic. Well, actually, we would since the game would be out by now, but we wouldn't have known in advance).

Hopefully the CoroCoro magazine will clear up the starting roster this week, if that is indeed the point of their article.

I've been thinking along these lines for awhile, and it isn't far-fetched at all.

If it's true, the one last character update we should expect is....... Sheik! (Who should still leave the final starting character count at 20 assuming he still shares a menu spot with Zelda). This is all also assuming he's still in the game, which has seemed more likely to me ever since finding out ZSS isn't a Sheik clone. In fact, all the doubt and anticipation surrounding his reveal is probably the reason he is going to be shown last. (Wasn't he one of the biggest character surprises for the starting roster of Melee too?)

And it makes sense to expect Sheik this week before the CoroCoro unveil, too! Maybe a wednesdayton tonight? :O

huh... no. It doesn't make sense. If CoroCoro has gotten some kind of exclusive, Nintendo won't ruin it by uploading information about the character(s) to the site before CoroCoro publishes it.

If they have an exclusive character reveal or something, then the site will post about it a day or so later, much like how Sonic showed up on the site a day after the press conference revealing him (which ended up only being a couple hours later due to time differences, but I digress).

But if they're just revealing the starting lineup, and Sheik is part of that lineup (via Zelda), then the site might still reveal it first. That's assuming a lot of things, though, in particular that Sheik is even returning.

I wonder what Sakurai will give us for Christmas.

You check every morning and you're complaining? :P

I'm convinced we will get a pause menu update soon. "Remember when you can zoom around your character while paused in Melee? Now you can dress them up with funny hats and send photos to your Mii friends!!"

I didn't say it was definite, just that it would make sense to happen. :P We don't know that CoroCoro has any sort of exclusive at all. I imagine they are just going to mostly be elaborating on the characters already posted on the Dojo.

And that means they are going to have to talk about Zelda... so... if Sheik is in the game, it seems likely (not definite, just likely) we'll either see him on the site this week or in CoroCoro this weekend

But that would be a great update and most people here stopped believing in great updates. :P

And of course, even that may still be placing a lot of trust in the CoroCoro magazine. For all we know, they could be just posting the EXACT same material that we've had access to the Smash Dojo up to now.

I would like to think that since the Japanese release is drawing ever closer, that the Japanese magazine may have access to more information. But, I guess we'll find out if the proof is in the pudding later...

People still think she's he? Or was it just a typo?

Anyway, I don't think she's in the game at all. Wouldn't fit as a transformation anymore, Zelda being from TP instead of OOT. And I think Sheik sucks anyway.

1. Sheik is AWESOME
2. I heard they were redesigning Sheik to look more TP-ish
3. Sheik is a guy

Think about it this way-- if a guy is dressing up as a woman in a play and he is convincing enough to pull it off, then the character he is playing is FEMALE, much like how Zelda plays Sheik who is MALE

Not a typo, but I've given up on having the debate (which is like, years old now anyway)! If you're interested in my argument just search about about 543 pages :D

Some people just don't get it.

Either that or they are too freaking stubborn to accept it.

So by your logic, Cloud's a chick?
