I think this is the crucial point which haters want to gloss over. If you're playing with 10 different people you're not going to want to make sure everyone is using their control scheme of choice (not to mention their player name) every single match. This isn't just rotating in players like melee so it's just a name change, melee didn't have customizable controls OR use 4 different controllers.

yup, not to mention things like record-keeping. A lot of my friends didn't care to switch their names

Not having to adjust controller choice/buttons everytime seems pretty useful.

But what do I know, I'm not a whiner.

but in this same post you seem like you are whining about having to theoretically switch controller setups! you're a phoney!

its cool that its a mode and all, but this isnt something that was exactly needed, but I guess Sakurai is just putting in everything to satisfy everyone.

I think it's actually pretty interesting.

Adjusting controls or having to go to the menu to switch names when you have a set system of who plays after who is a pain. This way, if my brother is right after me and prefers the classic controller, while I prefer Gamecube, it will just automatically go to his profile instead of him having to go click it, find his name, pick a character, etc.

It's not mindblowing, but it's a nice little convenience.

The only thing I'm curious about is what happens if someone is moved to a controller they didn't want to use... as in you have two Wii/Nunchucks, two Wavebirds, and three Wavebird players.

cool, instead of an update featuring something we already know is in the game, he has moved on to shit no one asked for which will never be used.

Wow, people will complain about anything.

Considering there are like, 500 ways to customize your controller configs, this is an amazing update.

Simply not having to select my name at the bottom for stat tracking every time we swap is HUGE!

It actually says "Tourney"?

Did it say that in Melee? I'm pretty sure it was Tournament Mode there...

It is not Sakurai's fault you have a maximum of three friends at any given time

Maybe you need a bigger apartment or something

-December 11th brings with it the 22nd game mode. Game modes are now just one update shy of tying characters.

-Every one of the most recent five weeks, including this one, has had at least one game mode updates. Three of them had two each. If you're not expecting game modes on a regular basis, I believe you should start. :P

-33 days of updates without a character, and 32 until the Japanese release date.

-I have 44 Virtual Console games, but I need more. My Wii number is 2610 7931 9227 5650. You know what to do. >_>

It was definitely "Tournament Mode" in Melee.

I guess they couldn't fit the whole word onto the button. Then again, Nintendo has been using the term "speed-run" ingame lately. They're catching onto our jargon, I suppose.

This update is so silly it's AWESOME, and just goes to highlight that this game does, in fact, have everything anyone could ever think of, EVER.

Rotation sounds great for a party. It could potentially be endless, tallying up scores with people entering and leaving at all times.

Unfortunately I doubt I'll ever be in a 4+ situation where everyone has unique control schemes saved to their.....SD card? so this doesn't really apply to me. A nice option, nontheless.

If that happens, the game will notify Sakurai, and he will come to your home and give you the right controller.

Are you serious? This will definitely be used by those who can get together at least seven other people. I have family members who throw parties like twice a week and invite thirty people--granted, not all of them play video games, but enough of them to justify a feature like this.

this is a great addition! We always had 5-6 people playing at a time back in the day. It's not that anyone needs help taking turns, but having the computer auto-switch your name and controller type is a big help. It's the little things that count and this is one of those little things a lot of people will appreciate

No, little R.O.B.S just come out of the Wii and distribute the appropriate controllers.

not to mention college.

I know this is late but it came to me as I was reading though the last two pages. But I noticed that the german site was updated first, but we couldnt translate it. I don't know how much time difference there was between that update and the english version but here is a solution to this:

Google translate: http://translate.google.com/translate_t

+

Smash in different language: http://www.smashbros.com/de/index.html

=

http://www.google.com/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.smashbros.com%2Fde%2Findex.html&langpair=de%7Cen&hl=en&ie=UTF8

EDIT:
holy crap the captions are hilarious, i recommend reading those. " Heat at times you have to sand bag ..."

I'm late to the party, what did I miss?

Rotation? Not a bad addition to the game. See, this is the kind of update I like to see. A description of how the game will work differently from previous versions. No one gives a crap about which Pokémon will be in Brawl -- they care about actual gameplay and functionality differences.

BTW, I love the thread title =P

Personally, I'm waiting for the update where we find out that Brawl actually has android AI on the disc so that if you put it into a decent robot, the robot will grow and learn by running calculations on how to improve its own functionality, can modify and enhance the game code from now until the end of time, and has the capability to erase some of your memory at will so that at any moment you choose you can experience Brawl as if you never played it before.

There was a theory floating around for a while that Melee's AI will "learn" techniques you use.

Melee looks so classy compared to this:

Its just menus but still
Not...really. Melee was a utilitarian mess. Barely better menus than the N64 game. Brawl looks nice and clean.

Well, maybe that didn't happen, but Brawl's AI certainly will! Unlike Dreamcast, it's thinking, and unlike PS3, it's living! Surely Sakurai has done what no genius before him could have ever.

Edit: On that note, I'm out.

Because people are dumb:

THIS WAS ALREADY IN MELEE SOME OF YOUR JOKES DON'T MAKE SENSE
I'm pretty certain this feature wasn't in Melee. If it was, it must have been hidden deep within the menus.

Melee had something like this update in tournament mode, but it was mostly pointless because it was just a type of tournament, and didn't give access to the character selection screen and full settings menu between the matches.

Yeah, IIRC melee "locked" you into one character, and then only had a "loser out" or a "winner out" option for how the the switching off is determined. This updated version is going to be way more useful. I think we might end up using this at school when there are like 10 players waiting for a match...

I like this update. Initial setup time may thwart people from using it though. I'm sure it won't take too long to setup profiles for new users. Hopefully the Wii will save the settings for every profile created, so the next time you have certain friends over their profile is ready for selection
