Smash Bros Brawl Dojo Official Update Thread: Goodbye, Cherry-don

come on, this is almost like a repeat with what happened to Wifi unveiling

Gaffer A: YES! Online!
Gaffer B: What? No Voice Chat?! Fail!

Gaffer A: Yes! Replays!
Gaffer B: What? Only 3 minutes? Fail!

Whenever Sakurai gives you something, you guys ask for more. Considering how big this game is, im glad that we're getting replay in whatever shape or form.

My wishlist back when I heard a new Smash was announced for the Nintendo "Revolution" was:

- Sonic ★
- Little Mac ☆(kinda)
- Bald Bull (not gonna happen)
- Mallow
- Geno
- Pit ★
- Megaman
- Better Story mode ★
- Super Moves ★
- To go forward in terms of realistic textures from Melee (better 'denim' Mario as opposed to 'plastic' Mario) ★
- Give Wavedashing the axe ★

I'd say my list is coming along nicely.

Too true. :lol

People will always find something to complain about.

For example I'm going to complain about how this wasn't a double update paired with a new "Break the Targets" song.

But then you'd just complain it wasn't a triple updated with a new challenger attached to it.

You guys are fucking lucky you're getting a daily blog AT ALL. Even Bungie only did weekly updates for Halo 3, and even some of those were complete non-events with no new information.

Christ guys, get over it. Sakurai owes you nothing. The fact that he's done so much already should be commended. Instead, you make it sound like he's under delivering. It's irritating and adds nothing to an otherwise well made thread.

OH MY GOD REPLAYS OMG OMG REPLAYS REPLAYS REPAALAYEPRYLASEPSEARERPLAYS OMG.

And sendable replays.

Damn, I love Sakurai, I love this game, I love everybody. And I'm gonna run naked in the street throwing bunch of flowers to random people.

I did that when Sonic was announced.

Only not naked.

And instead've flowers it was rocks.

Rocks of happiness.

:lol

Great.

I really love this update. There certainly isn't anything this games can't do (besides no friendcodes^^)

Hell, at this point i could even imagine Sakurai announcing that Brawl will come with the official Wii headset for voice chat.:D

I don't like the replay update. I'm rarely ever going to use it. I'd find it boring just watching a replay.

The target smash update isnt bad though. Its a lot like before, but its good to see that they've kept it in the game. Target smash was one of the things I was really good at in melee.

You mean when you were playing Smash you never did anything so awesome you wanted the world to see it ?

Like, MY KNEES LET ME SHOW YOU THEM ?

Why did I know that people were going to be bitching about something so trivial that they look silly? :lol Most standard matches are two minutes, that's what I play, so I'm happy. Sides, it's not like the Wii has infinite storage space, so it's a good, strong update.

I is pleased.

I like the new Avatar, Ant. It's awesomeness personified.

3 minute replay limitation? Who cares.

Voice chat is still ridiculously important.

Does anyone get the impression that the save technology is NOT like Halo3.

If there's such a strange limit on video size... doesn't that make you think you're actually saving video of some kind?

If that's the case, video is much larger than game code. Also, the limit would be safe when sending video to friends.

Someone already mentioned that the friends list in the screenshot doesn't necessarily say "brawl friends."

Does that mean the Wii has general video playing capabilities.

If you don't need the game (or the game in the Wii) to watch videos... (as long as they have proper SD card support) then isn't this better in many ways?

The Brawl wi-fi fighting friend list only used the word "friends", and the Dojo's description called them "Wii friends". "Brawl friends" hasn't been used anywhere.

Awesome update! Glad to see targets back and that we can share matches with friends. What more can be said.... Game of the
Fans
forever!

Hey, what's with all the Mario avatars?

Did I miss something?

The world is so bright outside of the Smash thread.

It's nothing.

Some nerdish hype about a random plateforming game nobody knows about.

I don't know how extensively I'm going to use this, since I'll be playing the game with my closest friends anyway, but it's a great feature to have.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

):

Target Smash isn't going to be as awesome now. They were so good because each one was tailored to an individual character. Now there are only five total?! Sucks.

Replays are awesome, though.

There's no way it's actual video recording. Like I said, that would slow down the game way too much, and it would require video codecs, etc. Replays can take up a lot of space, though, at least in comparison to the Wii's pitiful internal storage and Smash's allotted storage. I'm hoping that he makes this more flexible and allows us to save to an SD card soon.

Edit: Well, I'll be, he does!

What? I got the impression that there were going to be five target maps per character... Huh. It wasn't completely specific on that issue.

...

You know, we were supposed to get Melee: Online.

Instead, we are getting the game of the forever. You know that if this is the last iteration of this series, you'll be playing this on the Wii3. If this becomes a generation installment, then you'll be playing it for 6 years. Had it been Melee, we would have been (gladly) been playing it for 6 more.

To complain is ok, but to out right bitch (there's a fine, fine line!) is silly.

Replays? Yes please!

Fans: Die, monster! Your items don't belong in this tourney!

Sakurai: It was not by my hands that Smash Bros. is once again given flesh. It was called here by... Nintendo, who wish to pay me tribute.

Fans: Tribute!? You steal mens' sleep, and make them your slaves!

Sakurai: Perhaps the same could be said of all video games.

Fans: Your words are as empty as your target level variety. Megatons ill need a director such as YOU.

Sakurai: What is a megaton!? A miserable little pile of updates! But enough talk, let's join the Brawl!

:lol x5

Unless they are going through a four month QA process, the game is finished.

Therefore, expect the biggest ultra megatons64 of them all before Christmas.

Break the targets? Weren't people just talking about that earlier today?

Ok Sakurai, we know you read GAF...
I was talking about it yesterday or the day before. I really wanted co-op targets, which still isn't out of the question here, but not highlighted. I doubt it will feature it in the end as a co-op targets mode could have screen issues if the characters separate. Unless they let you play it all zoomed out.

A little bummed that there are only 5 target maps, rater than the character specific maps from before. That means all the speed run replays with the best times will be from fox or something rather than each character having the ability to have really nice speed runs.

replays is very nice, I wonder how the game chooses the three minutes if a match is longer (I usually play 5 minute matches.

I like how this update started you off slow, easing you in to the target smash mode, then letting on that those runs can be saved, then just going ALL OUT and bringing the replay function to brawls as well oh god all over my tits.

I like how the Send screen for the replays includes "Treehouse" I translate that into.. "Lol we are playing this online now with Nate. See you in February Bitches"

Holy crap! I guess I wasn't wrong earlier when I said Sakurai really likes Halo 3's feature set. :lol

Yeah, it's only three minutes, but, still, the fact that it is in there at all is pretty awesome.

we were supposed to get Melee: Online.

A freakin LOT of people need to remember that.

How many fighting games got as much stuff in one fucking generation ? We're so lucky to have more than just new characters, battle fields and online.

You play time matches? That's not standard at all.

Anyway, I just realized after turning off my computer last night that even if I play 3 stock, it's supposed to take much longer to die in Brawl so the time limit will still be restrictive =(

I want more time for replays far more than voice chat.

I just have to reiterate again that I'm not at all disappointed with the replays. I do think the 3-minute limit is... odd, but hey.

I am however complaining about Target mode being gimped. Each level in the past games was tailored specifically to each character, taking into consideration the way they jump, their different moves (Ness' PK Thunder anyone? Kirby's Brick?). It just seems like such a... silly decision. I'm not even asking for five levels per character. Just one per would be fine with me.
