Smash Bros Brawl Dojo Official Update Thread: Goodbye, Cherry-don

I would say the first Zelda level but Hyrule Temple is a fine enough evolution of that type of stage for me to be happy.

Hyrule Castle is pretty different from Hyrule Temple layout wise, which is why we would like to have it back, because it was such a great stage back then, and would hold up to today's standards in what makes a good Smash Bros. stage.

*sigh* 33 days 21 Hours and 11 minutes (as of this post and my clock) to go.

I need to call Walt Disney and ask him where he got his cryogenics done.

YAY Onett.

You know, I always wondered how that urban myth became popular - not to say that you meant it seriously, but I just can't imagine why that cryogenic freezing rumour came about.

You know its hard coming from the smoothness of Brawls stages to polyblocky stages from Melee :\

Maybe thats just me though.
Nah, I kind of feel your pain too. (Although Onett holds up really well.) But at least we can kind of recreate them in the Stage Builder--kind of. Don't really know how fully-featured that'll be compared to all the stages of the past, but we'll see. >_>

Anyway, I'm done for the night. I'm still kind of on a high from having updates starting again, but the sooner I go to sleep the sooner I wake up and play Star Tropics for the first time in like fourteen years on VC. And this time I won't even have to blow on a cartridge.

Did they mean for that giant alien brain to be Mother Brain? Because it doesn't really look like her... (apart from the fact that its... um... a giant brain :lol )
I believe it's supposed to be the spore spawn, a fairly early miniboss in Super Metroid.

I actually thought Fourside had a decent enough layout. The flying saucers (which were never seen in Earthbound outside of the "War Against Giygas" screen in the intro) were kind of unnecessary, though. And why were they slippery, exactly?

My real problem with Fourside is the boring graphical style. Onett was vibrant and colourful and included all kinds of landmarks and references to Earthbound in the background. Fourside, on the other hand, was bland and lifeless. Other than the Monotoli building, Pokey's helicopter, and the aforementioned saucers, there weren't any Earthbound-specific details at all. The Fourside stage could have at least had the Mani Mani Statue or the Clumsy Robot, or something.

I wouldn't worry about Brawl not having (most) of your favorite Melee stages. There's no possible way Sakurai has shown off all of the old ones already.

I am with him... Come on Sakurai!!! please, I know you are reading this

Well, Delfino Plaza's the one that moves, and Mario Circuit stays still... But even so, I do agree that Great Bay's really kind of useless. It's not that fun or interesting or unique or really anything at all.
:/ Great Bay is our 3rd most played map. It IS unique and exciting (small space but not as easy to reach the other side of the level because the platforms are solid and it's dangerous to jump underneath the pier from one platform to the other.)

This will be the first level I will build with the stagebuilder if it isn't in...

I prefer the 64 stage design however i also prefer it's size. I felt the hyrule temple was too big on melee and quite often in 4 player free for all it would end up being two 1 on 1s.

Great Bay... I don't see much need for this level, to be honest. Delfino Plaza will probably be the game's water based level (with swimming!) as well as actually being decently sized compared to Great Bay.

I do agree with Poke Floats, Sector Z, Hyrule Castle, and Saffron City, but I also have a policy of not getting my hopes up.

I would love to see these stages return especially poke floats. It is so different to everything else that i feel it has to stay.

Also i really liked great bay :(

For me the more levels the better, there are just so many great ones.

Wow, just checked it. Pretty nice update, I certainly wasn't expecting so many stage confirmations in one post, since the last one was only Temple. Good to see that Onett and Corneria are back!

What exactly was 64 Hyrule based on?

It seems like just a generic castle.

Yes. They basically copied and pasted and modified a bit, but the minimalistic design and a low amount of pitfalls (the only pitfall didn't always kill either) made this arena a more skill based stage than the rest in Smash 64.

EDIT: Oh, and ShockingAlberto, I already PM'd you with a :lol symbol about your avatar, but I want to really say it makes me chuckle every time to see the badly drawn Snake as someone's avatar, heh.

I guess it just depends on what kind of Smash player you are, me personally I prefer the larger levels and rarely ever go for the 3 platform simple spawn and smash style ones.

I remember loving Hyrule Castle from the N64 one so much, the classic Zelda tune that played the in the background was like "Whoooooo there it is!" after going missing in OoT.

I doubt it will be in Brawl sadly, but at least I'll still be able to play Hyrule Temple.

I did nothing to bash your personal preferences. I only reminded you that Hyrule Castle is very different, and that we actually have a good reason for wanting to recreate it.

With the exception of maybe the Tornado, there's no reason why it can't be remade.

I wonder if we will be unlocking these old stages like we did in the last game, or if they start available. It makes more sense to unlock them, but I was hoping Sakurai wouldn't be putting the secret stuff on the Dojo.

It amuses me, as well.

I just picture badly drawn Snake saying all my posts

My reply was more directed at AdventureRacing heh.

That thingy.

And yeah they could easily recreate it for Brawl, I just don't think they'll bother sadly.

Well, returning stages. Good for them!

I have now fallen under the same group of dream-havers about this game.

Somebody on GAF posted a link to a site with all the new characters, titled "It begins".

The only one I remember was an "evil" Team Rocket Trainer equivalent to Pokemon Trainer, with Koffing, Arbok and Crobat. Thinking about it now I have no idea how it'd work, considering two of them fly.

...then I think I went on a golden voyage to ASDA and mountain climbed the frozen food section in protest. I forget the last part of the dream. It got a little fuzzy past there.

I meant through the level editor, if the actual version exists not.

Oh yeah! I forgot could even do that, man so much in this game is zomg awesome. Sweet someone better do it.

I remember I remade Facility on Timesplitters and just did that level over and over. :lol Some times you just want to be able to play that old classic you know and love.... a few hundred times.

So we're up to 25 or so confirmed stages, yeah?
---

I just booted up Melee for the first time in a couple years. Damn I suck. I fear Brawl is going to kick my ass for a while until I can get back up to speed.

Gah, fell asleep right before the update but it looks like I didn't miss a megaton.

And fuck yeah at Great Fox returning, it was #1 on my wishlist after Sakurai revealed Melee stages were making a return :D

The update didn't say that those are all of the returning statges, so I can still hope for poke floats, saffron city, and mute city.

Meh. Not a bad update, but after a week of no updates that was preceded by a pretty mediocre update, and considering we're so close to release and this is the first update of release month in Japan, you'd think they would have wanted to return with something more interesting.

Tamagon playable? Now I've heard it all. :lol

Yeah, thats really all you have to say to discredit this. It all sounds nice and the guy seems to have called Onetts return, but theres a bit too much stuff in there that stretches the realm of possibilities.

ok whether that roster is true or not, please before you post the link write "Spoiler" or something like that

remember that we are close to the japanese release and the possibilities of having the complete roster in internet are higher everyday...

Surely the characters in the game have to be from game that have been released? day of Crisis appears to be a long way off at the moment, so I highly doubt it. Geno seems possible as at least an AT, though, as there was a lot of demand for him.

now.. there is an interesting idea.

Im not sure hes the Ray they mean, on the site in the comments someone brought up the fact that Ray 01 from Custom Robo is more likely the Ray that is meant. Which would be kinda cool to have a mech in the mix. Though this is all most likely fake so it doesnt really matter in the end.

And just in case anyone still wants to beleive the list, Tamagon is from the same game as Devil, but Devil doesn't have a game icon...

there's a number of other reasons this list could be called fake, but it's so detailed (with very reasonable unlock requirements for the characters) that I want to think it's real.
It'd be upsetting not having Olimar or Ridley, but 44 characters would be awesome. Some of the choices are very cool, and JaJaMaru is such a bizarre character to choose for a fake list... so at least it's a good fake if anything. At least it's a fun list to think about, not as predictable as the others

I like how Captain Falcon's final Smash puts "Rival" above another player :lol

I also like that Mii is unlocked by playing wifi matches and wears a cape. A lot of thought went into this fake

People, people, ignore that damn fake. How can you guys even discuss it when THIS thing is mentioned as a playable character?:

It's a baby Yoshi/Kirby hybrid. I don't see the problem. :lol

Yup, that's pretty much the only reason I'd come down on this being genuine - it just seems so specific and reasonable, albeit with the kind of oddball elements you'd expect from SSBB. I'm confident it is a fake, but let's just say that if it is real, I'd not complain about a thing listed in it :D
