Smash Bros Brawl Dojo Official Update Thread: Goodbye, Cherry-don

Every copy of Smash Bros had to have Pikmin in to provide your Wii with more power to play the game and help the servers handle the extra load.
it's the only way Nintendo could handle it!

Just woke up-

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! :D

I won't lie- I was just owned by Sakurai. I said yesterday there wouldn't be any more new characters and I was totally wrong. This is friggin awesome. (Olimar was my second most wanted character behind Geno.)

Just wait for tomorrow's update

Don't TEASE ME! :(

I hope that instead of giving us November/December style updates int he future, if strapped for ideas they just give us videos.

The Stage Editor in motion would be great, as well as videos of PT and Olimar.

Memememegaton!

Awesome addition and I love the Pikmin theme.

I imagine he plucks Pikmin out of the ground like peach with a "down + B" but at a slightly faster rate since all his other attacks rely on them.

my guess is static B throws the little guys and over and B blows the whistle and has the pikmin charge outward. I have no idea what an up+B would be? a little rocket ship?

I hope this means the food coins appear as recovery items!

was the pikmin icon added to the end of the list? meaning there is still an icon missing in the middle for the various series?

I'm guessing that when he does his pluck move, if you hold B, the Pikmin will go from leaf to bud to flower, and each will be more powerful.

I'm glad he made it in. Pikmin was pretty much the only new Nintendo franchise worth noting last gen. Unless you count Animal Crossing, but I guess that's really an N64 game.

Advance Wars already HAS representation. Assist trophy.
It read like he was referring to playable characters.

AW certainly deserves more than an assist trophy. Name another Nintendo series with recurring main characters over 3 games that doesn't have a playable representative in Smash.

Okay, okay, there's Starfi and Kururin, but those games never had worldwide releases.

After this, I'm sure Tingle is going to be in there for some reason.

He'd definitely be one of the secret characters though.

Has anyone seen any new desktop backgrounds including Olimar? I needs me an update.

Where are there wallpapers like that with all the characters? Is there one that keeps being updated or something?

The only way I can see tingle being in the game is if he;s an assist trophy. He's not a big enough character to be playable.

My only concern now is over how many of these new characters/rejigged characters have "novelty values" written over them. Pokemon Trainer with its switching out of Pokemon, Wario with its building-up fart powers and one-use Bike move (well it can be used again, but you need to hunt down the bike again first), Olimar with his Pikmin that are needed to be able to pull off Smash Attacks, even Diddy Kong has a lot of variable quirks about his attacks.

I'm sure they work, but it feels there's more strategic planning needed for them than the originals. I'm just afraid they'll turn out like a whole bunch of Ice Climbers in their interesting take on fighting that eventually causes more hassle than it's worth.

O_O Holy shit! I hate myself for deciding to go to sleep 40 mins. before the update. This is awesome. It's not Ridley, but whoa!

And that theme sounds pretty good. Yasunori Mitsuda had something to with it :D it shows.

You just want that logic to work so that we will get mother 3, let alone a mother wii.
But surfer girl said that Mother will... ok, ok, I will stop now before I get too carried away XD

Also, after this update I can imagine Kos Mos, Ouendan squad or even Count Chocula to be playable.

How can a 0 to KO combo from a grab qualify as "more hassle than it's worth" ?

Oh my goodness! Pikmin! Now I can finally be excited about this game. I bet the final smash will be a crushing blow delivered by Miyamoto explaining that Pikmin 3 is perfect for the Wii but is uncertain if he will make it.

None of the characters look too difficult to use. The only strategic planning needed for a lot of them is timing, just like you had to time a lot of your moves in melee.

But that's a good thing. Not a bad thing. If every one of the new characters was just another "Take Nintendo character, add 4 standard B moves, next!" then the game would probably still be fun, but it wouldn't be particularly original or innovative. All these new characters with their varied playstyles will make the game much more vibrant. I can't wait to learn how to properly balance the stamina for PT's Pokemon, or run around stages pulling out Pikmin at every free moment with Olimar (assuming he works like that). A good fighting game should have characters who play in completely different ways like this.

That brings up an interesting point. If Olimar's standard B attack involves Pikmin, how will Kirby use that?

They probably don't involved Pikmin. The update said that Olimar won't be able to do SMASH attacks without Pikmin. To me, that means that he will be able to attack without pikmin with his special attacks because those attacks won't involve pikmin....that's my guess anyway. If my guess is correct, then Kirby won't utilize pikmin once he swallows Olimar.

Question:
So far with the updates and the information we know;If this was the last Smash Bros. ever made, would you be satisfied?
Honestly, I cant see the series getting much better than this. As much things that are within this game, it makes me think that Sakurai will depart from the series.

I've stopped expecting a fourth installement when we learned that Sakurai was handling this.

Five years from now, on the next Nintendo platform, there will be a new smash bros that is essentially a port of brawl with better graphics and some added content. Sakurai will probably have nothing to do with it but it will make a boatload of money anyway.

Having Little Mac playable in Smash Bros. 4 would instantly make it the best in the series! :D

While I agree with you, I dont see how Nintendo can not make one of these every generation. This is their best selling franchise, behind only the powerhouses Mario and Pokemon, so I dont think Nintendo would refuse to make another, with or without Sakurais help.

This has to be the best Dojo update since.. well, ever.

Wind Waker Link, I'm counting on you. Then I will truly be satisfied if this were to be the final Smash Bros.

Smash will get further sequels, even without Sakurai, but I'm glad he was back for this one. Under his direction, the tone for the series has really been set, and so future people that handle it can't change it too much stylistically and the like. If he hadn't handled Brawl, I could imagine Nintendo softening up the "violence" just a bit, slightly more cartoony characters, no guest stars, much less of everything all around... and maybe a half-functioning online battle mode with no settings or character choice. :P But under Sakurai's direction, gamers have a standard to expect of at least console Smash games now, and future devs of the series can't back off that so easily.

No, I really want this game to stay away from multiple versions of the same character. No more Dr. Mario, no more Young Link.

Except that WW Link could have nothing in common with normal Link other than his sword.

The way it's worded, that he can't even use Smash attacks, implies to me that the Smash attacks aren't the only thing he's not capable of without Pikmin.

Besides, I don't see what moves they could give him without Pikmin. I guess they could always make stuff up like they did with Captain Falcon, maybe give him a laser gun or something, but considering the name of the character on the update is "Pikmin and Olimar" and not just "Olimar," think the Pikmin are going to be a heavy part of his play style.

I bet his standard B move will be Ultra-Bitter spray, which will temporarily turn enemies into stone, and the other three B moves will involve Pikmin - specifically pluck, command, and throw.

Nah, I really like the clone characters. Young Link and Old Link both had subtle differences giving a nice twist on an established moveset. Same with Roy and Marth, those two especially had a wildly different approach despite the illusion of sharing identical movesets.
