STORY TIME!
First off, I want to thank the poster that suggested me this for my situation:

Long story short, my girlfriend preordered me the bundle for delivery from BB on November 8. They did not send an email or anything, telling me it was delayed to Monday. I had to call them 4-5 times to find this out. So I ended up just buying the game on eShop on Friday night, and tried to look for the GCN adapter and controller by themselves, with no luck. So my next plan was to just get the bundle, and sell the extra copy of the game, but a GAFfer suggested the above policy to me.
The bundle arrived today, I opened it, took the game, a receipt for it I printed, that policy printed, and my girlfriend with the credit card she used to pay for it.
I showed the guy at the service counter the game and the receipt, explained to him what I wanted to do. At first he said "Well you have to have the whole bundle..." and I said "Not according to this I don't" and showed him the policy. He said "Well, you have that covered, I am impressed. There should be a way to do this, I just need to talk to my manager about how.
The guy leaves for a few minutes, goes to get his manager, and they come back. I explain to the manager what's going on. He tells me they "can't do that" because the game as part of the bundle and game itself are listed as different SKUs. I would understand this, if their store didn't have that policy, but they do, therefore that does not make sense and they should take the game back. He said "Well that is what it says, but there is no way for us to take it back." and I reiterated, "But you have to, your policy says so right here, and says nothing about 'different SKUs' or anything like that." We argued back and fourth about this for about 5 minutes, and finally I got fed up and asked for a higher manager.
The guy went and got his general manager, I explained to him what was going on. The general manager went and pulled another copy of the standalone game out of the back, and compared them, but said this should be doable, he just has to figure out how to do it. He fiddles with the register/computer for about 10 minutes, then finally asks for my girlfriend's ID and credit card (the one she paid for it initially with). He refunded it as credit on the card, and finally we were good to go.
That first manager was the biggest struggle of the whole thing, and honestly, I expect that I'm probably not the only person that will do this with this game, and that this policy will likely change soon. But if you want to do this, bring it with you, fight hard enough, and they should do it!
And that's the last time I plan on setting foot in a BB after this whole clusterfuck. Get fucked Best Buy!
