What GAF needs is a mod who is wise, but isn't afraid to come down on trolls and fools with the blade of justice.

don't ruin the thread with mod begging, it's really lame and none of you will get it anyway. no offence but you're most people in this thread are a bunch of scrubs.

Thank goodness the deed is done. Ami is a funny poster, I used to sometimes find myself nodding along in approval with his posts back before he was a mod but whenever you disagreed with him you were like public enemy number one and suddenly you were on trial for your felony of having a different opinion on a movie/game/book/whatever. After he became a mod I just stopped trying to quote or reply to him since it wouldn't go anywhere other than just derailing the thread. And like other people have shown in this thread proof of his own hypocrisy of judging something he's never watched or the whole thing about calling people liars, this was just long overdue.

People shouldn't have to fear posting on these forums. Now that the offensive moderators who would ban people on the drop of a hat or for disagreeing with you are gone maybe we can get to some better discussion overall.

Also, glad to hear why Dragona got de-modded. She was cool back in the day, think I remember her from planetgamecube.com or something along those lines. But when she was a mod here you saw this totally other side of her which I guess makes sense if she was letting her significant other use her mod account. I think one of the few times I was banned was for just posting in a thread that was anti-women even though my post itself had nothing to do with agreeing or approving of it. That was some bullshit.

Good. There are no shortage of guys on Gaf that seriously believe their opinions to be fact but Amir0x takes the cake. He' s the last guy that should've had mod power.

Someone's trying to earn her brownie points.....

For a position that you don't actually get too much credit for (forum moderation), I honestly do wonder how it has to feel when seemingly everyone piles up on you after you get de-modded. This question is obviously not specific to Amir0x (who I have no beef with at all despite disagreeing with several of his strong opinions), but I wonder if the statements that get put up serve as a wake-up call or just reinforce said person's questionable sides even more.

The internet loves a good story. I do too. Internet piling on is just part of the process. It doesn't offend me in the least... I don't even know these people. In any event, in many cases they are right (at least regards to this situation specifically, and my hypocritical behavior re: lying, which I'm personally embarrassed about because I really do hate liars), so one has to take it in stride.

I've said before in a topic then when I make a mistake, I'd own up to it. I made a mistake. It's not the end of the world.

Personally, I really love GAF but I am glad to no longer be a mod. There was a lot of shit people presumed about what I did to them that I never did, and a lot of conversations I could never participate in for more than three posts because it would instantly be derailed. People hate negativity and especially people who are non-apologetically forceful in the sharing of their opinions. Combine that with modship, and it was a bad mix for me personally. That won't change, of course, regarding how I present my positions. I was that way before I was a mod, and I was that way after. The only thing that changed was that it became impossible to be that way without everyone going "yo, you're a mod."

I definitely think I was a good mod, never abused my powers or banned people for participating in conversations with me. Always letter-of-the-law'd it. But it was time to go, clearly.

Chinner is acting very responsibly here, therefore I think he should become a mod.

Besides, i think most people know you need to participate in the GAF IRC channel for a while to become a mod.

wait a second i see what's going on here

I see. Does he have a notably interesting penis? I was just voting for penis avatars really. Then I could call the missus over to the screen and say "look at this bunch of cocks".

No need for women after what I'm gonna do to GAF.

This is a very disheartening thread. 9 Pages of people talking bad about one guy.

See what I mean? I never did this. Not even once. People just made shit up about what I did as a mod, and it's unfortunate. It's part of the reason I am definitely glad to be done with it :P

Also: Thanks to all the people who sent me messages of encouragement. It does make me happy to know there were plenty of people who liked my style.

I told them you use to beat me with chains in the cage.

Soured most of them on you I think. I apologize.

Yeah fair play, I have had my disagreements with Amir0x over the years and don't particularly rate him as a poster, but he was always a fair moderator in my experience.

I have a ban history that begs to differ there, champ.

As there is no transparency regarding bans people's imagination has to fill in the blanks. And if people see someone in a discussion with you with a banned tag, it's a pretty easy (even if wrong) conclusion to make.

You probably realise some people are going to be gunning for you now. The part in bold stands out - the amount of animosity between some individuals on the net is kinda pathetic considering they don't even know each other.

The rise and fall of someone in charge always result in anarchist retributals. Haters gonna hate!

Most likely the hate directed has reasons that can be backed by. I'm sure such is the case here.

This is completely disingenuous and you know it.

As a moderator, your job isn't to follow the law but to actually create the law and impose it. That's why it's so difficult: because you have to constantly check yourself and consider when you may be about to overstep a line, just as much as you need to check when others overstep a line.

You overstepped a line so many times and the bulk of this thread PROVES it. But not only that, you overstepped a line that you yourself kept drawing.

Bafflingly hypocritical moderator.

Gunning for me? Haha. Let them. Like I said, none of what they say bothers me. What bothers me is that I let myself be so consumed with the moment was that I broke my personal standards to do something I vehemently disagree with. But it is a gaming forum on the internet - a great one, mind you - so it's not the end of the world. Live and let learn.

No, it's not. I don't think I was frequently breaking the rules, because most of the time I was just being passionately and sharing what I genuinely believe. I do not and never will think that should be against the rules. I also don't think the vast majority of my posts were filled with insults or stuff like that. Hyperbole, yes, but that's not against the rules either.

In any event, I didn't lose my modship for my posting behavior. I lost it for ethical considerations re: editing my posts to misrepresent a position of mine.

So, you may pile on, but as far as my moderation, I did a great job and I won't concede that.

I agree with the majority of this statement.

Sad to see that. Hope he makes a come back at least, to the community.
