So I just learned pornography is illegal in South Korea

What? Who cares, they fetishize teens, 16+, how is that wrong again? It's not like the second they turn 18, they become attractive. School girl porn doesn't even fetishize kids, only teens, and again, how and why should it be discouraged?
Because teenagers are lacking in maturity and typically power.

Huh? My grand exposure to K-pop idols, taught me porn is legal to watch. You have to be registered with your ID or something though. Actually creating porn is illegal though.

Sounds like Singapore...

We banned porn here too. And have banned books, movies and games. I think GTA 1 and 2 are still banned but not GTA3 and onwards lol... We also have a 2 year mandatory conscription for males (which is followed by reservist training once almost every year until one reached 40 years old).
No one actively regulates though. It's always some peripheral charging if the police ever search your place for some other crime you've committed. Like a Buddhist monk's apartment was searched when he was suspected of misusing the funds of his charity organisation and they charged him with possession of hundreds copies of obscene videos. Note that obscene videos also include anything that has not gone through our official censorship board. Which basically means everything imported or downloaded.
So techinically half the nation could be charged for possessing movies bought or downloaded online (legally or otherwise). But this is just a written rule I suppose.

Nope. But we have the on and off case of leaked videos by random people :p Usually by angry ex boyfriends...

They don't actively do blocking of porn on the internet either unless they're obvious sites like playboy.com. Our regulations, like the laws are, kind of stuck in the 90s.

No gay sex either.

Why do you even need porn in SK? You go out at night, put forth minimal effort and you can get laid. It's not difficult in Korea. Add curiosity because you are a foreigner, which makes cross cultural coitus and even less daunting hurdle.

Just don't double dip in the 된장 at the 포장마차 so to speak. (Neighborhood bike reference)
Unless you can just unzip your pants in public and immediately get serviced it's not gonna be as convenient as fapping.

Yup...People have been trying to repeal it for years but the government's stance is that the population is still conservative and they don't activeky enforce it anyway so herp derp!

Damn, how can you guys survive?

Porn is still easily accessible via the internet and formerly, pirated dvds/vcds. Most of it is lip service to appease some imaginary conservative majority. I had a professor who argues that our censorship board is there, not to ""protect" the population but to protect the idea that population is conservative and doesn't/shouldn't see certain things. This is the same country that fines televsion networks for showing happy gay families on reality tv shows about home renovations. At 4 am. Because they promote the gay lifestyle. I wonder who are those idiots who call in to complain.

Also, prostitution is legal as long as you're working for a brothels that by law must make their workers go for routine health checks. The last I've heard such brothels are a dying breed and we probably have more illegal ones who fly in from other countries.
And our government wonders why we get a low rating on the human trafficking scale.

Considering some of the amazing films coming out of South Korea for how edgy some of them are sometimes, it really surprises me about this porn news. Kind of strange they have a strong similarity to American films in style and production quality yet seem behind in many things.

What a waste.
If you're into Asian girls, Koreans have good potential IMO.
There was a Korean Naked News for a while. I wonder how they worked that one out?
