So, is it basically confirmed Gearbox is doing the next Halo?

RSTEIN

Comics, serious business!
I've been reading here and there that Gearbox is doing Halo 4 (or a prequel). Has the Gearbox rumour been upgraded from speculation to certainty? I think I've missed something. Is it just me?

wut wut where who how source link??

Bungie is less than a mile from my apt I'll go matrix in their lobby and steal infos

If Bungie doesn't make it then I'm not interested. That's like having another developer work on Metal Gear or something.

Gearbox did, if I remember clearly, put out that call for developers, designers and so on to work on the most amazing, mind-meltingly bigtime project in recent memory. They assured us that we would say wow over and over, I think.

Don't know if that was Halo related.

didnt MS form wingnut studios to make the next halo game?
Wingnut is Peter Jackson's development house. Bungie originally partnered with them when the game was announced. However, Microsoft confirmed that they are staffing up internally to work on that project (code named "Chronicles"). It's not clear how the development is now split between Bungie, Microsoft and Wingnut after the MS/Bungie split. Chronicles is a seperate project, not Halo 4.

Yup. It it turns out to be a good game, I'm interested. But it's starting from scratch, without the benefit of the IP or Bungie, IMO.

Stranger things have happened. I mean, they are currently working on this, of all things:

(Epic is doing the next Mario I swear!)

See, I can do it too. Next time give us a link to a source backing up your claim please.

How in the world could GearBox possibly be taking on this many projects? This is getting ridiculous. Put out a game first.

Weekly Update 4/25/08 said:
You may have noticed some hubbub earlier this week as Microsoft posted several job descriptions aimed at building up a new internal Halo development team within MGS. The initial speculation was that this project was actually the long awaited yet highly mysterious Halo/Peter Jackson game (rumored to have been dubbed "Chronicles") that was first announced nearly two years ago. This was confirmed by MS who said the following:

"A Peter Jackson-helmed Halo project was announced at X06 in Barcelona,” said a Microsoft spokesperson. “Since then, Microsoft Game Studios has been hard at work collaborating with Peter Jackson and Bungie on the development of that project. At this time, it’s necessary to grow the internal team to keep pace with development. Bungie will continue to remain involved in multiple aspects of the Halo Universe with MGS."

So what does this all mean? In a nutshell, Microsoft is building a development team to work on future Halo game titles - the first one being collaboration with Peter Jackson. Just like the upcoming Halo Wars from Ensemble, this isn't "our" game.

Clearer, slightly.

No. Not confirmed. Not even a very strong rumor.

My first post at the GAF. Doesn't feel as special as I'd imagined .........

I really think Gearbox would do a better job than bungie. They seem to have a decent idea on how to create levels.

Hey now...I enjoyed Brothers in Arms and Opposing Force as much as the next man, but I've not seen anything from Gearbox that could match The Silent Cartographer, Two Betrayals, Delta Halo, The Ark, The Covenant or Halo levels.

should have posted in the OT.......can't help but to be epic over there!

Although i'd rather have Bungie make another Halo rather than any other studio, I think that it would be interesting to see how Infinity Ward would handle it.

Agreed, but then again, not sure how they'd be able to handle sci-fi themed levels.

I'd like it to be 3rd person, with Gears cover mechanics. From the actual Spartan training until the moment of the first big missions. Free-roaming on the planets, visiting other planets with ships etc. Big battlefields etc. And, a bit less colorful and "funny", dark and serious would be nice.

Shittily. They'd handle it shittily.

Oh gawd I can imagine the elites popping out from behind boxes now in exactly the same fashion 600 times as you play on legendary. Ohhh no there are so many plasma grenade markers on the screen at the same time ohhhhhhhhhhhh gawdddddd the military bravadooo

Yuck. No thanks.

But I would like to see IW do something other than COD for a change.

Can someone please tell me the story behind this? The original video isn't subtitled.

I don't know for sure but the bald guy was giving some kind of tour or something. He promptly resumed giving the tour after he decked that guy, if I recall.

Someone should make a video game featuring this guy.

Fucking seriously!

Hey Pitchford, thanks for getting me all excited about a game based on Heat and boasting all about how excited Michael Mann is about it and then not say shit about if for years! Until one lonely Sunday afternoon I come across an article in a trade mag where you casually say (as if you're NOT about to ruin lives), "Oh yeah that ain't happening." Thanks for nothing, jerkwads.

And where the hell is Hell's Highway? That thing was scheduled to go gold like two years ago!

That would be so awesome if its true.

as much as, i loved playing halo 3, i think the next one could do with some much needed next gen shine:D

I've been thinking about this too and honestly.. I dont mind it. Gearbox seems to have real potential.

Let me preface this by saying there are many improvements I want to see Bungie make to their next game (fully dynamic shadows as well as AA and AF primarily) but I would strongly suggest a trip to the Halo 3 screenshot thread for convincing that Halo 3 does have a ton of next-gen shine.

I'm not making a claim. In fact, I'm doing the opposite. I'm making an inquiry. You are right about sources, tho. Unfortunately I don't have any off the top of my head. I've just read a lot of Gearbox/Halo stuff lately, whether it's on forums, video game sites, or whatever. I was caught off gaurd about all the talk about it and therefore have sought GAF's counsel.

You're implying that the Halo series has poor level design, no doubt. I suppose opinion is opinion, but I've always felt that the Halo games offer some of the BEST level design around. It's true that, early on, the series was lacking visual variety, but it has always featured fantastic gameplay variety. I can think of plenty of games that offer much more in the way of scenery yet become tiresome due to repetitive gameplay, for instance.

Halo 3 solved many of those visual complaints as well with some truly beautiful locales.

Gearbox has never released anything as well designed as Halo.

That wouldn't be interesting at all. The type of shooter IW has created in the past is literally the anti-Halo. Call of Duty has absolutely nothing in common with Halo outside of its perspective and the fact that you spend the entire game shooting enemies. Halo is a very unique game and I don't think just any developer could grab the reigns and duplicate it. It would be like asking someone to create the next Half-Life...
