So is Kinect still mandatory? If so...how do you feel about that?

It seems that this is central to their plans -- even more so then DRM, considering it's the one controversial thing they have decided NOT to change.

If it remains that you have to have it connected at all times...why didn't this change, too?

I'll let the early adopters get their personal information transmitted to the government. I'll wait a bit to make sure nothing fishy is going on and that the games are worth the invasion of privacy.

If they can remove DRM on the whim, that kinect required bullshit can also be removed.

We pushed this far and microsoft should just give up and give gamers kinect free version.

I'll hold out. Chances are they'll be a cheap, kinect free model at some point in the future.

Then why force it to be there right now and put a 100 dollar gap between you and the competitor that is beating you right now? Why make concessions on things except the one thing that would change the price of the console and do TONS for your perception in the eyes of the very casual that cares a ton about price, probably much more so than DRM? I get wanting the install base to have a kinect, but there is a difference between that and FORCING it to be connected at all times. I would advocate removing it from he bundle all together and not just the "has to be plugged in requirement."

It's the last remaining dealbreaker for me. I know it won't be for many people, but I really don't want to be forced to have a damn camera connected all the time for my games console to be functional.

The fact that it would make the console cheaper is an added bonus. The price difference still gives Sony a big advantage that MS can take away by making it optional.

Get rid of the kinect rules and I'll buy an Xbone eventually for the exclusives.

That MS abandoned all other methods to make money off of their customers that they had cooking aside from the most profitable one. Prepare to get data mined and have your info sold to telemarketers guys.

For me the mandatory Kinect was as big as a dealbreaker as the DRM. It's still ridiculous and I doubt it's even legal in Europe.

One and done. etc, etc. I saw no reason to purchase the first kinect and I haven't seen a reason yet to buy a system that makes it use mandatory.

I don't want to pay $100+ for a packed in item I have no desire to use. It's the one last thing keeping me from getting a Xbone.

To me, MS might as well have packed in a compressed cube of recycled plastic that was worth $100. I'll get a Xbone once its kinect free.

Forced Kinect still makes the Xbox One less appealing... it's also $100 more than the PS4. before it was 0:100 in favor of PS4. Now its more like 30:70 still in favor of PS4.

Well, yes and no - if/when I decide to buy an xbone I'll leave it completely offline for that very reason.
But it isn't the complete dealbreaker it was with mandatory internet connection.
I'd prefer to be able to physically unplug kinect though...

I'm more concerned about another point of failure. If your kinect falls off your TV and breaks you can't use your $499 console because of it.

Duck tape can fix anything.

Was never remotely an issue for me. I couldn't careless but I don't have privacy issues to feel that MS is spying on me at all times .

The only thing I cared about the camera was that it only responded to Xbox On when it was powered "off" and that it booted the system instantly.

I'm pretty sure they are going to make a Xbone without Kinect and sell it for $399. In fact after this announcement and all the "blah blah we listen to feedback" I guarantee you there will be one announced before it launches. Some MS bitch boy already tweeted that "more is to come"

Kinect = no sale. Confirmed.

(But I'm generally completely displeased with everything about the way Microsoft views gaming, DRM or no DRM. I've had enough of them with 360.)

Everybody probably feels the same exact way they felt about it the last 100 threads on it.

This is just a lousy attempt to drum up MS hate in the face of good news.

It's still a dealbreaker for me. Beyond the privacy concerns, I just don't want to pay any money toward a Kinect. It would be a waste of the purchase price and a dumb decision for me to buy it.

Kinect was one of my two main problems with Xbox One all along, and until its mandatory connection requirement is changed I'm still keeping my distance from the Xbox One.

Do not want!

Even before the DRM stuff was announced, I had decided against the XBone based on this alone. That certainly doesn't change now. Even though I had a 360 this gen and didn't get a PS3, I'd much rather have a PS4 than an XBone due to this.

I don't like Kinect's features, I don't have a convenient way to hook it up in my entertainment center, I don't like some of the scary stuff I've heard about related patents from MS (like facial recognition ad targeting), and I don't want to be forced to pay $100 more for a console that is weaker because they feel their silly attempt to tap into Wii's market is somehow relevant now.

More than any of that though, I don't want devs to feel pressured to put Kinect functionality in all their games like Wii developers felt they had to replace button presses with wii-mote waggle. Having it a required component is going to do just that. PS4's camera thingy isn't built-in, so devs may add value-added features but if you don't care to use it, the vast majority of games on PS4 won't expect you to.
