Putting aside the premise that people can't cross chat despite Fortnite, can we find a consensus on what anti-consumer means on gaf? I vote it means that a company is doing something deceptive, unfair, or manipulative to extract money from people in nefarious ways. Refusing to let another multi-billion dollar company access their platform is just not what I consider anti-consumer.

Im not sure how you came to that conclusion. I was aiming my gripe on how Sega has a tenancy to skip one region or another for whatever reason depending on products. Its frustrating being left out regardless of your region.
To which the reason i brought PSO2 up as a counterpoint to FFIV, i had legitimately forgotten about the PAL being left out (which i agree is a scumbag move)

Both companies may be guilty of it now, but not allowing cross play hasn't historically been Sony's issue.
That was the point I was trying to make.
I'm baffled as to how this became a big deal anyway (Console Crossplay).
Anecdotal, but I remember No one gave a shit about cross play when Sony was the only one doing it.

I only care now as the friends I have made in gaming come from all different backgrounds with different hardware. It'd be nice to be able to play with them from my preferred hardware.

Something about this doesnt add up. It completely contradicts how MS is allowing cross-play with other games. Fortnite for example has a built in party chat for communication for cross-party (i know this because its the best kind of party chat youll ever get on the switch) or what about minecraft? Or rocket league? All of these games have cross-play chat.
This was an issue back in the 360 days but not so much nowadays.

I agree, something doesn't seem right, everything that he says can't happen because of MS already happens in a bunch of games, including Dauntless (in game text, voice and cross platform guilds) and Paladins on top of the ones you've already listed.
Yoshida still seems to be giving the same answers he has since 2013, like nothing has changed and no progress has been made. It makes me wonder how much "talking" is actually happening.

I'm sure, you can boot up either of them right now and test them out. Fortnite is in the client, I have never played Rocketleague to experience voice chat so I won't comment on it other then "Nice Save!" wasn't aware voice was even an option.

and I play Dauntless on PC, my cousin plays on Xbox and a friend of mine on PS4, we are in a guild together and used in game chat... once... cuz it sucks, so we switched to Xbox chat (because I'm on Win10 which has built in Xbox party chat and my cousin plays on xbox anyways, the dude on PS4 uses his phone to xbox party chat via the mobile app)

Haha, yeah. I'm starting to wonder if it's kinda the same reason WoW never came to consoles. The amount of money and effort that would be required to get it(FFXIV) on Xbox just wouldn't be worth it. The Epic in game chat is thier own client and runs parallel to Xbox and PSN.
I never called you or anyone else a liar or a child in any way shape or form.
If you don't have a basic understanding of the systems that are in place now, maybe try to inform yourself before joining the conversation, or ask questions for clarity about aspects of it.

Like when Sony and some third parties were screaming for BC (edit: meant crossplay) in the Xbox 360 days, MS successfully turned the table and the narrative on Sony. There is nothing that makes me believe that if they had the 2-3:1 sales advantage over Sony that they would have pushed for crossplay and made it a PR campaign: the same exact rhetoric against opening up their network and protecting their users' best interests was used as a commercial club in both scenarios.
Sony has their policies and internal commercial / business priorities, MS has theirs, and third party publishers have theirs... in some cases they align and in some cases they do not. Square is likely demanding something MS does not want to provide and that is all so yeah they should get the flak Sony was getting or Sony should be getting some slack (not for the holding saves and account hostages, that was bullshit).
