And Forza, Assassins Creed, and Crackdown. And Castle Crashers. Don't forget Castle Crashers.

Ive had mine since January and its still alive(a 2005 model). Elder Scrolls alone was worth the system, plus Dead Rising, Ghost Recon, and im enjoying Madden. Its going to be my only next gen console for a while.

launch system and its never given me any trouble so far. As for gaming, its been one of the best 1st yrs for any console. Its had a pretty solid library of games. Now if only it had xbmc built in.

Mostly awful. I have yet to buy a game that is OMG awesome. RR may be the only game I've played where I wasnt turned off within the first 20 minutes of play.

I've enjoyed the 360 quite a bit. I have a launch Core system that's been running fine, give or take a few lockups. Dead Rising is so far my favorite next-gen game, followed closely by GRAW and Burnout Revenge (though technically Burnout wasn't ground-up next-gen).

But what I've found myself getting into more is XBLA. I think I've spent more time on Geo Wars and Uno than the retail games I've bought.

I picked up mine in May and work / house purchasing commitments have limited my play-time somewhat but I've been really impressed by what I've seen. I got PGR3, GRAW and Oblivion with it and haven't yet picked up anything else (next game is PES6). I'll get the chance sometime hopefully to get back to it all.

I signed up for Live as well, which I'd never done with my Xbox. Me and wee brother have been playing Smash TV and PES5 Xbox on it and it's class. We'll probably dip into Doom at sometime in the near future. I really like the whole marketplace setup for downloading new demos / videos and things.

And I'm gay for Mass Effect. And BioShock. And Crackdown.

FLAWLESS VICTOLY!
Pretty good. Solid if not spectacular. The best feature is live and arcade, and I expect that part of the service will remain better than anything else on the market.

I've had several good gaming experiences, but nothing in the first year that lived up to the heyday of the Xbox, imo. Disappointed by the lack of bc and the fact that my first system broke.

I'm not going to judge it too harshly as systems don't really reach their groove for several years. I look at the launch lineups for the other systems and realize that nothing is really going to change in that respect, and there's nothing wrong with that. Patience is a virtue in the hype world of gaming.

i don't own one yet, but microsoft is doing a damn good job getting games on the system that make waiting to fork over the cash hard as hell. i may be forced to in the next couple of months :/

The Inside Track
For a first year I think the 360 did alright. Some would say "solid if not spectacular", but I'm not one of these guys :D
Anyway, I've been a bit surprised by the support from japanese developers. We got some crappy games from the usual crappy/average jp devs, but we also got RR6 (could have been better I guess, but still a good game), Dead Rising, and now Project Sylpheed. 3 games from publishers who did not support the Xbox or only with broken games. Considering how bad the Xbox games sold in Japan, and how badly the 360 started there, it's surprising to see these games, and even more surprising to see that these devs (not Square though) have more games to be released in the future. As a japanese games lover, this makes me very happy.
One thing I really disliked in the past year is how the vast majority of the game released had major framerate issues. I'm not a framerate whore like dark10x, but still slowdowns and heavy tearing are annoying. Especially when the game doesn't look *that* great for a next-gen title. What I saw in Leipzig and Tokyo thankfully seem to indicate that the next wave of title should be much better. I guess the 360 GPU was much more difficult to use efficiently than anticipated, but since it's a brand new design (compared to the Xbox or even PS3 GPUs who are essentially PC parts) I guess it was to be expected.

I have had a great year 1 with my 360. With many good games and a number of stand out titles I have had a great time. Xbox Live has just gotten better and better and XBLA has been a blast. I really look forward to this fall and 2007 should be outstanding.

I have a launch unit and havent had a single problem with it and it sits in my AV cabinet. Hooked up to my Denon AV Reciever and Panasonic 50" Plasma. Looks beautiful and plays beautiful.

Just upgrade my laptop to Vista RC 1 and been playing with Media Center and thrilled with it and looking forward to building a Media Center Server with my sons starting in November and serving up content to all the TV's in the house with XBOX 360's.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
I've been pleased.

Few standouts though. Oblivion and I didn't get along as well as I was hoping(dorky world leveling), and none of the first party titles panned out too well either.

RR6 was my personal favorite launch title, fantastic online play, and though the campaign felt really bloated and redundant, it kept me pushing to its conclusion....60 hours later.

Dead Rising was wonderful, and I personnally loved BFME2 despite hardly touching online play.

Oh and Call of Duty 2 on Veteran was a blast to play through.

I'm enjoying the overall LIVE experience which I've never had time to use until last week (I've owned 360 since launch). I love playing Doom online co-op mode with 3 other players. However like CliffyB has stated, Xbox Live still has a lot of untapped potential which MS needs to take advantage of.

Please release more classics like Doom! Duke Nukem! Simpsons Arcade online co-op would be a riot.

Solid if not spectacular but the highest positive for me is the whole marketplace aspect with downloadable demos, trailers and Arcade games (though lacking there imo, Doom is superb though).
Best games are Oblivion and Middle Earth 2 (the last which I haven't played too much of to be honest, firing up now).

I consider myself late to the party...picked up a NTSC/J unit at the end of August for cheap.

I think it was good timing, what with the selection of cheap launch titles here in Japan (RR6, PD0, DOA4 going for $10-20 in the bargain bin) and grabbing some of the more recent titles as well. I liked the Xbox and Xbox Live even then, and 360 definitely feels like it's an extension of it, and helluva good one that is.

With more great games coming up, I'm certainly glad i picked up the 360.

Not good. Oblivion sucked, PDZ sucked. So it just sits in quitely.

There is hope for the future though... Halo stuff, Mass Effect, and Lost Planet.

But so far, it hasn't been anything but dissapointing.

holy shit they only release 2 games for the system?? yes pdz was garbage, but oblivion sucked? why did you even buy the game if youre not a fan of the genre

Nothing has quite matched the online joy of PDZ and Chromehounds. I really miss playing with many GAFfers on PDZ (and now Chromehounds). As far as consoles go, I can honestly say I have not enjoyed a console this much since the original NES and I think it is primarily due to the strength of XBOX Live and the strength of a pretty darn good selection of games to keep me busy.

Got mine from day one on launch with my circle of friends, and it's being excellent ever since - zero problems with my 360 despite others having theirs die on them...

No hyperbole, the 360 is the best gaming experience I've ever had, period... I've enjoyed evry single game I've bought, there are still excellent launch titles that I still need to pick up, XBL Arcade is sooooooo much fun and so conviently easy - it made downloadable games a good idea to me... nothing like having games come to you the instant they are done, and playing them worldwide simultaneously - online.

Downloadable demos and HD-trailers are the sh°t... gone are the days of BUYING demo discs... and having to rely on crappy handy cam footage at gaming shows (except for BlimBlim who brings the good stuff in HD!)...

And Achievements can be addictive as well... awesome idea right there...

To me, its just THE total gaming package, a paxkage that is unrivaled - and totally for the gamers... and the best is yet to come!

Totally awesome.... first experience on xbox live with this system... got it at launch and have not looked back since. I got my money's worth with just Fight Night!

Other standouts include

LOTR: BFME
Table Tennis (actually bought a ping pong table cause of this game)
NHL2k7
Call of Duty 2
Saints Row
and a 30 hour stint with the GAF crew on Chromehounds was fun

Other good quality games in my collection that I can't have the heart to trade in would include
Test Drive Unlimited
FIFA World Cup
Dead Rising
GRAW
Oblivion
DOA4
Burnout Revenge

The game quality and system quality have been so good, I don't even care about the PS3 at launch

This winter, Rainbow 6, GOW, Smackdown vs Raw and COD3 will be more then enough to satisfy me and Lost Planet a month later!

I bought it because I heard good things, and have never tried the genre. What other games would you recomend if there is such a wealth of titles?

i picked mine up on launch day, still without any hardware problems.

perfect dark, Project gothem, Call of Duty 2, Doa4, Graw and MotoGp06 have kept me entertained since, as well as some Bc updates that have enabled some games i wanted to play.

future looks good too.

360 is really looking to take off in a couple weeks and never slow down again:

Splinter Cell Double Agent
F.E.A.R.
Gears Of War
Call of Duty 3
Rainbow Six Vegas
Crackdown
Bioshock
Lost Planet
Mass Effect
Alan Wake
Fable 2
GTA4 + d/l content
Too Human
The Darkness
Forza 2
Blue Dragon
Lost Odyssey
Half Life 2 package
Castle Wolfenstein
Stranglehold
Medal of Honor: Airborne
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
Halo 3

These are all but confirmed '07 releases. Many early in the year. And I am missing a shitload of games. Like the inevitable GRAW sequel, etc. Many exclusives. It's just an out of this world lineup for gamers. I won't be buying a PS3 or Wii in 2007 because I JUST DON'T HAVE ****ING TIME TO PLAY THEM

I've had my 360 since Christmas last year and I really love it, though I dont know why exactly. It died, and games wise it's been so-so. Games I got:

PGR3
GRAW
Dead Rising
Oblivion
Condemned

And I had PDZ, but I sold that pretty quickly (due to it being a trainwreck).

Things I love about it:

Integrated live stuff
Awesome dashboard
Demo's (saved me from buying a lot of crap games)
Wireless controller
Doom on XBLA (fantastic, bring me Duke3d now please)

Things I dont like about it (hardware wise)
-Quality is not near as good as the last xbox's: it died + every controller's buttons and edges feel different + cables dont have an exact fit
- Its quite noisy

About the games, I liked some of the stuff, but I still spent most of 2006 playing WoW. Oblivion was o.k., but it still had the same flaws as Morrowind. PGR 3 was good, but its more like PGR2.5. GRAW's singleplayer was entertaining, but it got old pretty fast. Theoretically I could've loved Dead Rising, but I cant believe how they ****ed up a fantastic game with design like this. These Japanese dudes should get over their boss fetish, it totally ruined DR for me, as well as the retarded AI in the escort missions. The only thing that gripped me somehow was Condemned. Fantastic game really, nothing revolutionary, but it was a very well executed and atmospheric survival horror game.

What I dislike most about the 360:

There's still no killer-app. And Im thinking it had better be here quickly. So here's hoping that Gears is going to be as good as people say it is. Cause a console without a killer-app isnt worth 400 bucks.

That's basically how I feel about it too. I've had a lot of fun playing it, but after it died, (and now the replacement is giving me problems) it's left me with a somewhat meh feeling about it. None of the games have been spectacular, but there have been some that i've really enjoyed:

COD2
Fight Night Rd3
Madden 07
GRAW

I've had mine since launch day!!!!.......... in March 2006.

Still waiting for that big game that takes my interest, I use it for FFXI but thats hardly worth mentioning when asking about 'next-gen games'.

Honestly, i'm disappointed mostly in XBLA and Rare.... they've slipped so far off my radar its really quite sad. I'm also sick of getting told to go buy the mediocre games that are getting more hype than they deserve simply because its the first year blues and its the 'well what else ya gonna play?' crap. Happens every launch.

I will say I LOVE 360 Xbox Live. Wish every console's online was set up like that. <3

shpankey

not an idiot
Oblivion
Fight Night
GRAW
PGR3
Madden 07
NBA2k6
Dead Rising
NHL2k7

It's all about the games, and so all those made the 360 "great" for me. Very happy with it so far.

It has been an extremely good year especially for the first year in the consoles life. I have enjoyed lots of gaming experiences (Condemed game was great). Love what they are doing wiht the Marketplace and really how much of a role it is playing in the games that consumers play. The next year should be another great year seeing the games they have coming out and also to see what updates and changes they make to Xbox Live. I still remember when Live first came out on the original xbox and I pre-ordered my starter kit at gamestop and the clerk laughed at me. Good ole gamestop, they still don't know what they are talking about.

I've been playing 360 at someone else's house. At this stage (with PS3 and Wii looming on the horizon), it's going to take a helluva killer app to convince me to pick up one of my own.

Holy crap, what a list!

While I'd prefer a one-console future anyway, the sheer quantity of games on this platform may just mandate it for me unless I decide I need a "cheap" BR player in 2007 or early '08.

I have seen my future, and it is green.

I am loving my 360. I must be honest I was skeptical about getting one. But then the launch frenzy hit, I found one and I just "HAD" to have one. I really enjoy the system as it takes advantage of my HDTV like no other system had before it.

So-so
At launch I bought both PGR3 and CoD2, which I both thoroughly enjoyed, and still occasionally do in multiplayer. Especially PGR3 had me playing on live for months with a few buddies, had a blast there.

After that though, a massive drought in exclusives (CoD2 I count as an exclusive because it was so bugged on my PC that it wasn't playable, and I didn't feel like waiting for the patch to fix the dual core issues), and GR:AW turned out to have a few annoying faults in multiplayer (SP wasn't my bag). Only since Saints Row and Dead Rising have I been playing my 360 more. Also I have installed Vista RC1 on my PC a few weeks back, and have begun using my 360 as a media extender, which works quite well and is now probably my most used feature of the console.

On the whole, if I had to decide whether to get it again, I probably would have waited until early next year. Good selection of titles by then, quite likely a pricedrop and a quieter console (man are the launch console's drives LOUD)

I actually had no intention of picking one up, but after seeing the high res videos on gamespot of GRAW, I had to have one. The look of that game said to me "this is worth it" and for the two days that I played the single player game, it definitely was. The multiplayer was awesome too if short lived for me. With it I had Fight Night and Kameo and while Fight Night kept my interest for a great deal of time, Kameo didn't do it for me. The graphics were amazing sure, but it wasn't that great of a game in my opinion.

After the initial month or two though in March, it really started to collect dust. It's picking up again, but if it wasn't for XBLA, I'd be pretty pissed off by the purchase. I'm glad so far *knock on wood* my system hasn't broken or anything, but the library hasn't been much for me to really recommend it to people. This holiday won't really change that opinion. I'd like a console to have like ten games on it that are must haves before I recommend it to people and the must haves are still coming. After Gears, it'll be a long wait until 2007 for Lost Planet.

I've had one since launch and I haven't even touched the other consoles since then, so I guess you could say that I'm quite satisfied with the 360 so far. And in 11 months I've bought 18 XBLA games and 12 regular games, which is the most games I've ever bought for any console for the same time frame in the 25 years I've been doing this. For the Xbox it took me nearly 2 years before I found a third game worth buying...
But I'm on my second 360 since the launch console broke down, so it's definitely not without it's faults. And it's incredibly loud too.

I'll probably be branded a heretic, but I think the 360 has provided the best 10 first months of any console.

XBLA is a standout in its own right, but then you have a strong lineup of quality titles:

COD2
GRAW
PGR3
Oblivion
Condemned
Dead Rising
FNR3
Saint's Row
Kameo
NHL2k7
NBA2k7
Table Tennis
Top Spin 2
Chromehounds

Yes, the lineup might lack the one truly killer AAA title like Halo or Mario 64, but I have a hard time fathoming how someone could say the system has been a total disappointment. To each his own, I guess.

I feel like I've been on a rollercoaster, but one that I ultimately have walked away from with a big smile on my face and with the need to ride it again. From the dizzying heights of the pre-launch mania to the terrible valley of waiting 4 weeks after launch before Gamestop got my pre-order in; from the solid homerun that XBLA has been, to the terrible screeching halts I've experienced having to send my 360 back TWICE for repair; honestly, it's be a great experience.

Playing Dead Rising (which broke my initial machine) to reliving my Jr. High years with Doom, I've had nothing but fun with the games. XBL is unparalleled and Sony would have to have extreme luck to even get 75% of it right for the PS3. It does piss me off that the machine breaks so easy, but I'll keep repairing, and keep playing.

Thank you Microsoft, really.

It's been very good. I wasn't expecting much out of it since I only bought it because I returned enough games and got a bonus multiplier at Ebgames that paid it but when I found out that I loved PDZ, that the EA games were satisfying, that it was getting mucho support from Capcom (#1 3rd party for me), that XBLA and XBL were kicking ass and that the PS3 would cost a lot, I turned out to be very happy with that console.

Though I WILL buy a PS3 when MGS4 comes out... but until then, I'll be a Wii360 user :lol

It's been a great system for Online play:

GRAW, Madden 07, NBA 2k7, NBA 2k6, Top Spin 2.

But this month, the system is going bye-bye. Due to Take-Two buying the MLB liscense I have no choice but to sell my 360 for a PS3. I dont care about Halo 3 or GOW...I play sports games and since Microsoft isnt doing anything about High Heat Franchise (they own the Code) ,I have no choice!

Purely for the hell of it, here are my ratings for every 360 game I've played on a half point scale.

PDZ: 7.5
Ridge Racer 6: 8.5
Kameo: 8.0
Madden 2006: 7.0
Madden 2007: 8.5
PGR3: 9.5
COD2: 9.0
Need for Speed Most Wanted: 8.0
Condemned: 9.0
Gun: 8.0
Amped 3: 8.0
DOA3: 7.5
Oblivion: 10.0
Table Tennis: 8.0
NCAA Football: 8.5
GRAW: 9.5
Full Auto: 8.5
Fight Night Round 3: 8.5
Far Cry Predator: 8.0
The Outfit: 7.5
Burnout Revenge: 9.5
Peter Jackson's King Kong: 7.5
Lord of the Rings BFME: 8.0
Test Drive Unlimited: 9.5
Hitman: 7.5 (early impressions)
Saints Row: 9.0
Dragon Warrior 5: 7.5
Dead Rising: 9.0
Tomb Raider Legends: 7.5 (early impressions)
Just Cause: 8.0
NHL 07: 9.0
Top Spin: 8.0

Unplayed in the backlog: Prey, Chromehounds, Over G Fighters, Enhanted Arms, Moto GP, Godfather, 99 Nights, Samurai Warriors 2, Import Tuner Challenge, Lego Star Wars II, FIFA 2006, Battlefield 2, Rumble Roses, Blazing Angels,

Now add 30-some XBLA titles and that is an insanely great first year if these games match your tastes. And it still has nearly two months left in it. We're spoiled nowadays. First year in a console's life used to be a whole lot more uneventful.

Wow getting rid of all that just for a baseball game? I personally think that is a bad idea. But hey if you need your baseball, you need baseball.

I'm just glad I play more than just sports games. I'd hate to be in your shoes.

Very happy with the first year, but I still feel that MS could have done so much more. As someone mentioned earlier in the thread, their first-party lineup has been sparse since launch.

3 launch titles (PGR, Kameo, PDO) and Ninety Nine Nights (which sucked). And that's it so far! Sony have a load of 1st party titles within months of release of PS3.

I think MS didn't want to peak too soon - I'm certain this has been their strategy from the beginning. To get it all going from GoW this November and keep it up for as long as possible - and they can. With that, Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Forza 2, Too Human (maybe!) and not forgetting Halo 3, they can have a AAA title EVERY month.

But... they also need to EXPAND - where the hell is MS's answer to Singstar or Brain Training etc? And why release the 360 Vision game Totemball weeks after the device came out in the US and make it a XBLA only game? Why not make the device more 'accessible' like Sony did with Eye-toy? Give it funky packaging and include 12 mini-games, at the same cost.

Come on, MS... don't revolve around Peter Moore, think outside the box.

Finally bought a new PSP, but then pushed the demon onto someone else. Jesus.
My first one just died, bought another.

I haven't bought anything over marketplace and will continue not buying anything other than the game itself as long as I can help it.

360 is cool, but constantly hoping the shit won't break down all of a sudden has impeded greatly on my overall enjoyment.
