So no one actually still PLAYS games on gaf right ?

I don't have anymore the time to play the old classics again like chrono trigger, ff7, a link to the past, shenmue 1-2, ...

There is not time enough in a day (working 8 hours, sleeping 8 hours, 4 hour internet)

i finished 29 games last year and one this year so far.

unfortunately right now most of my gaming time is spent playing l4d. i keep meaning to play something else every time i get ready to game but i can't seem to break my addiction :[

Playing Wolrd of Warcraft, Grandia and Dissidia and posting on GAF is just the most awesome thing if you are a fellow gamer.

Play them all the time

Bioshock
Orange box
Halo3
L4D
geowars 2
pacman CE
gears 1
gears 2

and a bunch others I can't remember have all been played and beaten (if possible) by me in 2008.

If anything, I play too many games.
My only 'backlog' is mirrors edge and the reason I didn't beat that is because it was a blind buy and it's kind of crap.

I probably browse NeoGAF more than I play games simply because I do it at work. When I'm off work I can actually go out into the wild and do stuff -- sometimes video games.

I lurk on GAF and post occasionally while in the middle of playing a game. I pause frequently to check GAF or news sites, it's an odd habit but there you go.

Hmmm, between the Wii non-game system, the PS3 non-release system and my RROD'ed 360, the answer is a resounding no.

Oh and I might appear as a player to my familly/friends, but really, WoW is all work.

I guess I sometimes play a backlogged game on my PS2 and put maybe 2 hours max on the DS every week.

I bought around 100 games in 2008 (44 Xbox 360 games, 10 PSP games, at least 50 PC games) yet I have played at most...20 of them.

I think I may have a problem, aside from World of fucking Warcraft which rapes my gaming time, I have the annoying tendancy to think that ÂŁ20 = buy me.

Good recent examples, The last 4 Xbox 360 games I have bought (Far Cry 2, Saints Row 2, Beijing 2008 and The Last Remnant) were bought because they were less than that price point, yet none of the 4 have even seen my 360 yet.

Oh, and 5 for ÂŁ25 for Pre-owned games at Blockbuster doesn't help me much either, lets just say that if I ever get round to playing my backlog, I may need to allocate a year or 2 to get round to it. Well, my current backlog anyway as I still have 30+ PS2 games to play and 25 Xbox (not 360) games still unplayed.

Bugger, and none of this takes into account that my PSP has a backlog of many, MANY Ps1 games that I want to play, AGAIN, Christ.

My ratio is something like 1:10 in terms of finishing games to buying new ones.

Though at least this week I've spent 5 hours a day on Dragon Quarter which is an improvement I think.(then again Dragon Quarter is one of those games that gets everything right so thus I wouldn't be able to look myself in the mirror if I quit on it)

Course when I swing by my old house on friday to pick up my mail I'm going to have three 360 games(Condemned 2, Turok, NG2), one PS1 game(Cybernetic Empire), one PS2 game(Maken Shao), and a set of Dreamcast A/V cables(which will open up another 30 games for me to not play). Add to that there's Fallout 3 arriving soon and the monsterous month of February. Oh and God forbid I ever get my laptop fixed or buy a new PC. That'll unlock another couple hundred or so games easy.

Yikes.

I spend more time reading about games than playing them these days

Pretty much this.. And listening to podcasts at work or watching video podcasts on my Zune. I do play games several nights a week and on weekends but my schedule is just too crazy to sit down and play regularly. Comes with getting old and more responsibilities I guess. If I was still 18, had no life, lived at home, and no job.. then yeah I'd be playing tons of games still. Now I'm much more selective with what games I get because if I'm going to spend my limited money and time with them, it'd better be a good game with a lot of replayability.

On a regular basis I'm playing Stalker on PC, TF2 on PC, LittleBigPlanet (wife wants to play it almost every day with me), Resistance 2.. Embarrassed to say I still need to finish Resistance 2 (on final boss), MGS4 (on final boss), Shadow of the Colossus, MGS3: Subsistence, and God of War 2. And yes, I'm kind of ADD when it comes to games. Once I get into the online, it's hard to go back to the single player, and if I get frustrated with a section, I just turn it off until I feel motivated to go back. Unfortunately, sometimes it's years before I go back to the game to finish it..

Most of my time wasted on GAF is while at school during the day. At night I still get in a good amount of gaming. I do have a problem finishing games, though. I rarely finish RPGs, and quickly sell games I get bored of.

I post more than most on GAF, and I finished 48 games last year, start-to-finish. I've already finished five this year, and I'm on the cusp of finishing another two.

I'm 27 now and I still play as much games as I did when I was younger, so yes. Whether or not I should be spending my time on games and not other things is something else, but I'm still enjoying myself so who cares.

I post on GAF while at work.

I play games late at night after work and going to the gym or whatever..maybe 2 hours or so.

But it's true that I do sometimes purchase more games than I should, and find a hard time completing most.

Case in point: I bought Condemned 2 for PS3 a few weeks back at BB for $9.99..haven't opened it. Bought Siren: New Translation from the Play-Asia sale last week or the week before which just arrived last night...no idea when I will actually sit down and play.
Bought Burnout Paradise last week.. played for maybe 3 hours since then... going back and forth between that, The Darkness and Devil May Cry 4..

So yeah.. I don't play games as much as I like, but whenever I have a free day (usually Sundays) I sit on my ass for 13 hours and play until my eyes hurt. :D

I am really only on GAF when I'm at work (~7-4). When I'm out of work I'm either busy, or playing games. I might quickly glance at thread topics or the buy/trade/sell thread before sleep, but rarely for more than 5-10 minutes. I would never be here if I didn't game enough to justify it.

I try to get in as much games time as i can these days as im a lot more limited with the amount of time i have to play. Its not like the good old days where i could come in from school and just play games all the time, no now i work and live my my soon to be wife so the time factor really does come into play.

Most days i play about an hour before work, and depending what shift my gf is on between 1-2 hours after work. These days im a lot better with finishing my games as its been a while since i got a game that i didnt finish.

OP, speak for yourself. i completed a ton of games and i post on GAF regularly. i work a full-time job and that affords me time to chat on GAF and in other forums. for games, you just gotta make time for it. i think most guys here probably finish more games than game journalists.

I spend more time on forums during the weekends, and less during the week.

Also having a steady job doesn't help my playing time any.

I mean sure, tons of juniors and 1st years probably think they still play games lots but let's be honest with ourselves. Between all of the backlog threads and pickup threads it seems as though the average gaffer buys 20+ games a year and finishes perhaps 3 of them and plays about 15 of them, leaving 5 sealed in box to make threads like " I just bought dickmuncher 5 should I open it gaf ?"

I'm going to admit that I barely play games anymore and haven't beaten more then a couple a year since joining gaf. How about the rest of you ? Furthermore to those who've been banned for short periods of time did you find that you played the shit out of games for the entire length of non gaf time ? I know I did, in the 1 week ban I had ages ago I finished off 3 games.

So ultimately can we really still consider ourselves gamers when all we do is sit around and bitch about everything, buying it to stick on the shelf then bitching some more about how dick muncher 6 doesn't play itself ?

First of all, just because you are a 'junior member' (is that what you meant by junior?) doesn't mean we are actually kids and have all the time in the world to play games. I am in my 30's and I have a HUGE backlog of games to play. The backlog is created from the combination of too many good games coming out and no time to play them. Has nothing to do with how much time I spend on GAF. To be honest, most of the time I am on GAF, I am at work.

The most time I have to play games is on the weekends. Sometimes I can get a long session in. Weekdays I am usually too tired after work and just want to veg in front of the tv.

As for commenting on games I haven't played, I don't do so because I don't know anything about them. Unless it's something along the lines of "Well, I heard..."

So no, I don't complain about games I haven't played.

When I'm not freelancing I usually clock about 4 to 5 hours of gaming time on week nights. I still manage to get in an hour or so when I do. My gaming backlog is huge but something tells me that I will have that cleared out when the lull hits by the end of the month.

I post on GAF during lulls in work. When I'm at home the computer stays off and I game almost every night. Twenty games a year sounds about right.

So I don't know what fuck the OP is talking about.

Nope, not me. Sometimes a PC game here and there with my friends, but otherwise I don't play games anymore. And it frustrates me because I have time to do it, but I can't be bothered. Even Super Mario Galaxy I gave up halfway through it for some obscure reason. My Wii has spent the whole summer sitting in a bag on my room's floor, and I've played it maybe twice since september. I think I can safely say I'm not on GAF for gaming anymore, which explains why I'm mostly following the OT now (though I still can't resist NPD day :D)

Calm down...it's a well-known fact that after a while as GAF members, most people stop playing games to spend their time posting on GAF, and that introduction was referencing this fact. Don't see an attack against all juniors, it's just foolish.

I only spend more time on GAF than I do playing games because most of my GAF time is when I'm not at home (out of town, at work, etc.). When I'm actually around my consoles, I spend much more time playing than browsing forums. I'm not on forums nearly as much on weekends as I am on weekdays.

I've been playing Persona 4 in 4-5 hour stretches; I just don't have as many opportunities to do that any more, between work, working out, making meals, random errands, etc.

I am on and off with gaming.
But I rarely finish games now.

I play it till I get bored and then try out another game.

Also, I check out what my friends are playing and get the game they are into.

At the moment, I am trying to go through Fallout 2 and some PS2 games. But I also really got into Magic the Gathering, so that has been my primary hobby at the moment.

Hey, I was calm, was just clarifying. That's why I asked in parenthesis (is that what you meant by junior?). I wasn't upset, just giving my opinion like everyone else.

And as for replacing posting on GAF after awhile, I can only comment what I do. I have posted on many message boards but I don't replace it with my already sparse time in playing games. However much I have enjoyed posting on GAF so far, I plan to continue that trend in not having it replace the game time I have.

But no worries, I wasn't upset. Just giving my opinion. But thanks for the concern. :)

I don't play a lot, rather I'm on GAF ready to read witty funny stuff about video games. Being on such a forum utterly changed the way I choose video games to play so, in the end, I think it worths spending time on it.

Sometimes I think I spend enough time on here that I surely don't get much gaming done. Then I consider merely the subset of all games I play which are the portable RPGs, and how many of them I finished last year, each getting at least a few dozen hours... and figure I'm still playing quite a bit.

However, I can now afford more games than I have time to play properly, so I'm also NOT PLAYING more of my games than ever before.

i use computer and internet most of the time i'm at home, for works or simply for chatting with friends, listen music and see things on youtube(last discovery: scary sheep :lol :lol ) and in these moments i read many forum and gaf too)
i go to play just when i have nothing to do here in the pc room :/

Every night is always whatever game I have to finish up, followed by Gears 2 night with the boys, unless I'm going out...

Extra convenient as I have my laptop right beside me so that whenever I'm in the lobby I check out GAF or I'm on Skype with the family, so it's all done at the same time...

I'm still playing as much as I can. Played 2.5 hours of Super Metroid last night, and Valkyria Chronicles is next up in my queue.

Laptop + wireless = GAF and gaming at the same time :D

But usually, no, I don't spend a lot of time gaming. Usually when I get home from work or the gym, I just want to zone out in front of the TV.

I was thinking about this the other day, I think I spend more time reading about and discussing games than I do playing them. :lol

Sometimes I'm playing with my laptop by my side, I browse GAF when:

Im playing Socom and Im dead, same thing with Crash Commando
I score a goal playing PES
Waiting for my turn playing SSFHD
etc.

So yeah, sometimes I can do both things...

I still do probably play a lot more than i read/post. Lately, tho, I haven't playing as many different games. Putting a lot of time into Lich King and then have been working on Saint's Row 2 as well.

I'm laid off right now. All I do is play games when I am not looking for a job. I'm going through through some of my backlog and previously beaten games to unlock achievements and complete on harder diffculties. But I'm still buying new games too. The Maw is one that I am guilty of recently.
