Stumpokapow said:Maybe, maybe not. But I don't really think that's fair. People promote a lot of niche stuff (for example, de Blob, Boom Blox, Wario, Mushroom Men, Deadly Creatures) as being good. I agree that those, or at least the three that are released, are good games. When people say "lol who cares about obscure stuff like that", I don't think that's fair. Disaster seems to fit very squarely in that bracket---it doesn't appeal to everyone, but the people who like it, love it. That's true for a lot of Wii software.
Sooooo it is just the "ONLY got a Wii and have gotten EVERY game they are interested in for it already" crowd? (X-Mas may mean jack shit to me but I still gotz 2 weeks off! Thats why I plan on buying the games I don't have yet like NMH)For a lot of us, the Christmas holidays (I work in publishing, so I'm off work from around the 21st until around the 3rd, school ends around the 15th to the 5th) are the main reason why we value having a lot of games to look forward for now.
Given how D Day was a flop everwhere else and FF4 isn't even confirmed to be published by NoA for the States I don't think that adds up to "much more sells". (I don't think people will buy D Day because of lack of other options in that area. Seems more likely that people would buy other 3rd party titles because of that.)schuelma said:They could have localized Fatal Frame and Disaster. I'm sure they wouldn't have sold much, but I bet they could have done decent given the lack of any other decent options this holiday.
Quoted for the funny!I think this probably has ended up being the Wii's worst year. I mean, it's REALLY fucking bad.

Then again, getting over the sins of Wii Music will take time. Just like you don't rape your dog in front of your family and just pretend everything is hunkey dorey directly afterwards, these wounds and trauma will take time to heal.

Editorial: Has Nintendo Lost the Hardcore Gamer?
And does it matter?

In the Gamecube era Nintendo didn't tout Animal Crossing as their one major offering to hardcore gamers in the holiday season. That's the joke.PataHikari said:What's funny is that in the Gamecube era Animal Crossing was "hardcore"

Didn't we get Mario Golf, Wario World, Lost Kingdoms, PN03, Soul Calibur II and F-Zero GX that summer?donny2112 said:I remember Summer 2003 being really empty for some reason.
I have no idea who would've ever considered that game hardcore. It was unique and quirky. Easy to get into and appealing for both boys and girls. Basically, it was the first really casual game Nintendo had made. If you compare to the Wii____ stuff they've been making lately, it could be seen as a little more "hard" but we don't live in a vacuum so AC has never been hardcore.PataHikari said:What's funny is that in the Gamecube era Animal Crossing was "hardcore"

And I don't. I love the characters and games, but holy fuck...
Absolutely it's possible, but mere possibilities don't do much to alleviate the concerns of those asking to hear something concrete. Besides, considering how first-party WiiWare releases have gone so far, I'm not sure I'd put too much hope in that particular possibility...DavidDayton said:Stupid question time... why are we entirely ignoring Wii Ware releases? My Wii purchases in 2008: SSBB, Mario Kart Wii, Mega Man 9, Harvest Moon (SNS), Super Mario Bros. (NES), Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES), Super Mario World (SNS)
My PS3 purchases in total: Heavenly Sword, Mega Man 9, flOw

I'm not exaggerating here or engaging in hyperbole; this is literally what I predict Nintendo has planned for use with this INCREDIBLE NEW DEVICE.

A mystery of the ages.

I'm not going to recommend CV Judgment (55), Rayman Rabbids 3 (67), or Clone Wars (58). for the same reason that I didn't recommend Fracture or You're in the Movies. I didn't recommend Tomb Raider or Sean White for either system despite 70-odd averages for both, or Quantum of Solace for any system.

My point wasn't that it appealed to you personally, more that there were plenty of games that Summer across many genres that could appeal to more "hardcore" people like F-Zero and Lost Kingdoms and there was no shortage of traditional games either. Where as this Summer was a lot different, imo.donny2112 said:I bought none of those until Mario Golf was reduced to $20, and that was mainly to be able to play as my GBA characters. Totally agree here. I don't know who was calling Animal Crossing hardcore back then. Nobody I know, I also was debating on wheter or not it was a game but with some of the stuff coming out now I'd definitely classify AC as a game, comparitively.donny2112 said:AC was the first game I remember being debated whether it was a "non-game" or not.

Yeah. Never in my worst nightmares during the GameCube era did I imagine Nintendo would become this. Those two need to . . . but people seem to continue buying lots of old Wii titles, so they really don't have much pressure on them to release lots more.charlequin said:Sony and Microsoft don't "need" to release anything either, but they still do because, oh, maybe they might be publically-owned companies interested in profitability?
