So... Pitioss Dungeon in FF15

What are the staples of post-game content in JRPGs?

Oh that's simple:

- make a 100 floor dungeon!
- make a boss-rush dungeon!
- make a hidden dungeon with the most powerful enemies in the entire game!
- etc.

FF15 already does some of that but it doesn't stop there.

FF15 gives you something that is totally different from the entire 100 hours you have played before. It gives you a dungeon that
contains no enemies and where you are all by yourself without bros
. It is another much needed refreshment in the Final Fantasy formula (that FF15 delivers in spades) but the biggest twist here is that, on the vey basic level, a Super Mario Dungeon.

You read that right - it is a very platforming oriented challenge.

After spending 7 hours in there I cannot decide: is it the best dungeon in the entire series or the worst dungeon in the entire series?

Is it worse than Chapter 13 or is it the best part of the game?

I really do not want to spoil stuff about this place to anybody but you will be amazed. You will be awed. You will be frustrated. Angry. On the brink of throwing your controller against the wall. You will be so very tired and cursing at Hashimoto, the Ultima Troll. Then you will be praising the genius of Pitioss design. And it never ends. It never... fucking... ends. Hour after hour you are doing new puzzles and rooms and pray this is the last thing you have to do there. But no... it just does not want to end. It throws new challenges at you every hour! It is so exhausting. I checked some forums and it took people up to 10 hours to clean up this place. TEN HOURS!!! Can you imagine?

It is a very conflicting place especially given the final reward.

But seriously *F U C K* this one moment picured above. I was stuck for 1 hour there not knowing how to proceed, checking every wall, every nook and cranny. Redoing it oer and over and over again... After 1 hour, out of pure frustration, I checked on-line how to proceed. It blew my mind. It... rocked my tits... It was the only place in the entire place where I had to consult the internet :[ :[ :[

All in all it is a fantastic post-game content and a shining example that Square has still got it.

I would like this game to come out on the PC for one particular reason: the modders can then extract the dungeon data and show it in some 3D Max application so it looks like this:

I want to see the entire dungeon on screen with full day lightning. I want to see how it is all interconnected. I want to marvel at this goddamned infuriating place.

I did this entire dungeon high as hell. My brain was hurting and I literally couldn't go to sleep. It's something I'll never forget.

Best dungeon ever

They should scrap all the worthless dlc and make more of this, or sell it standalone

It was really cool. For some reason, I always try to fuck around with platforming in games that aren't made for platforming and that impulse was greatly served by this dungeon. Another one was the platforming puzzle in Felwinter Peak in Destiny. I kept thinking "I bet I could jump there" and thought I was messing with the game but there was actually something up there when I got to the peak.

I had a buncha bullshit fuckups where working my way back and doing the exact same action/jump wouldn't kill/reset me.

It's absolutely the best dungeon in the game, a game with really simple but really good on atmosphere / utilizing space and shortcuts / simple mechanics dungeons that really harken back to 4/5/6/7

Its also by far the worst dungeon, that side scrolling section is only hard because of the absolutely abysmal camera zoom, the incorrigibly awful physics on the cheese wheels and the blind jump sequence at the end that resets you back.

There are a few rooms like the gigantic ball wing with all the spinning spike logs and the sidescroller/cheese wheel wings that you should go directly through as quickly as possible. And the whole thing shouldn't really take you more then 4 hours.

I'm really glad I played it.
But its apparently really hard to get people I know who did finish the main story to go back and play Pitioss

However when the method of accessing it is the TOP PIECE OF TRASH Fucking No Man's Sky DONT TOUCH THE GROUND point the ship down and hold the brakes == ship flies into the stratosphere and speeds up to mach 4
Its hard to convince myself its worth the effort to get people to deal with those ship physics.

It's fucking amazing. The twisted geometry is the best, a complete mindfuck. I'd love if the new Call of Cthulhu game had sections that resembled the traversal in Pitioss, given Lovecraft's descriptions of non-euclidean geometry.

Pitioss Dungeon was amazing.

The only part that was driving me crazy is the area immediately after the goddess statue when you have to make that jump from the demon statue.

Hated this dungeon and the jump mechanics, but I only took 2 1/2 hours for that. Still don't like the dungeon, but I understand why people like it.

Didn't feel like the whole belonged there and would rather have a complete story than this dungeon. :|

Did exactly this after finishing Costlemark tower. Less excusable but somehow more frustrating to recomplete then Pitioss would have been.

When I first saw spoilers about the airship and crashing I laughed and thought it was compelling, until I played the game and realized how late and absolutely nothing the airship was with fast travel being objectively better with the absolutely terrible controls.

It's the best part of the game simply because it doesn't have the god damn mediocre combat.

Also lol at people's cars blewing up right after. Fuck I'd be pissed.

You can speedrun the dungeon in less than 2 minutes btw.

I did this entire dungeon in one sitting and then my car blew up outside before I saved.

Seriously, I wanted more of this dungeon. I thought FFXV was extremely mediocre, but Pitioss. Man. One of the best dungeons I've in any game in a long, long time. Hell I'd be fine if the entire game was like this.

I don't know how the best official Tomb Raider level in years ended up in the wrong game, but I'm not complaining.

I completed the Pitioss Dungeon on Remote Play while on holiday. The vita handled great, but the poor connection and lag made this incredibly tough. Took about 3 hours all up I think.

It would have been amazing if Noctis didn't control like a tank. That fucking tuck-and-roll he does when landing from a jump led to so many deaths.

It's honestly a great and also pretty unique(not the idea but the execution was felt very fresh) dungeon and one of the few moments I absolutely loved what the game was doing.
I'm probably one of the people that scrutinize FFXV quite a bit, but stuff like that is honestly ace and I hope whatever sparked it will carry over to XVI.

Yeah, I loved this.

It was the combination of amazement that this JRPG suddenly turned into a puzzle-platformer not entirely unlike some kind of pseudo-tomb raider, and the fact that it was actually well designed and long, to boot.

By far the biggest surprise in games of 2016, maybe ever.

I don't know if you guys noticed it but Noctis's animations get a lot of "aim assist" in this dungeon. You can entirely miss it and never find out if you always try to control your jumps but once you find out that the game helps you make some jumps by automatically adjusting your momentum and jump distance you will have a much easier time making some jumps.

Remember that one part in the end where you have to make jumps to tiny platforms surrounded by spikes? Well I never died there and would make those jumps with 100% accuracy and I did it several times (because I would die somewhere else..After crossing that point).

All you need to do is aim at a direction and give the jump button a tap and then immediately let go of the analogue stick once you have covered half the distance of the jump...And the game will do the rest for you. Try it and you'll see it works.

It's the best part of the game simply because it doesn't have the god damn mediocre combat.

Also lol at people's cars blewing up right after. Fuck I'd be pissed.

Mediocre combat?

Are you sure you played FFXV? =p

Wait wait, where i can find that dungeon? Im currently doing endgame stuff and im stuck in
Castlemark Tower

I had a chance to livestream the entire dungeon one day before release date. It was one of the best gaming experiences in my life.

Pitioss is pure love. Fucking amazing stuff.

I'm still stuck in it and it has been for weeks. I'm horrible at platforming. I'll play like 1 room and then exit to save and come back 1 week later. I think i should go play the festival first before continuing.

One of my all time favorite dungeons in a game ever. At times it got a little frustrating but the payoffs made it all so worth it. Took me quite a while but finished it all without stopping. Lived up to a lot of the hype people were hinting about it when the game came out. So awesome.

I heard it's a fun dungeon.
I couldn't play it tho....
kept crashing and dying in the Regalia Type-F trying to get to the dungeon....
Finally I gave up and shelved the game.

Totally brilliant. Took me about 4 hours, and I'm pretty sure I collected every item. I loved being surprised by each new puzzle and room, and the way the game played with perspective was incredible. By the end of it I was stressed and shaking, my head was pounding and there were rivulets of sweat running down the controller. I hated it and I loved it.

Genius idea. Bold move. The Demon Wall room in particular was just fantastic.

I would have liked it even more if the platforming elements and clever level design ideas would have found their way broken up into other dungeons, but I also respect just having one dedicated dungeon which says "Ok, FFXV is a puzzle game now, let's go platforming."

Early this year (as in, the first few days :P), I cleared over half of the dungeon in around 2 hours, but unfortunately I ran out of time. Had to turn off my PS4 because I was taking it back home, so rest mode wasn't an option. Since then, I haven't even attempted the dungeon again and probably won't anytime soon. I even went on to platinum the game after that and am still playing it every week. Pitioss was not bad by any means, in fact, it was quite good, but boy, was it frustrating as fuck at certain points. Noctis controlling relatively poorly and having an annoying roll with large distance when landing ruined so many jumps. Also, it would have been a lot more tolerable if the game let you at least save once half way through.

Pitioss was amazing. I knew before that there was some optional special dungeon in the game but I had no idea what I was in for. What a ride. Dungeon is superbly designed from start to finish. And it is really long. Loved every minute of it. Never knew I wanted platforming in this game but now I want more of these. Definitely one of the best pieces of post game content I've played in a game.

I don't get how can people spend in there 10h... I made it in 3h and a half to finish it.... all by myself.

That said, a wonderful dungeon indeed, with nice platforming and overall not so frustrating, even with the controls that are not made for platforming.

It was a really good, i thought the secret door dungeon was pure shit and 0 work was invest in these. But that dungeon clearly stand out of every other one in the game. Also it feel like the only challenging content in the game, everything else was a breeze...

I gave up at the same point as the OP (Damn you rock tits) But it was an intersting experience for sure, fuck the fixed camera section though.
One thing I was wondering during all this is why couldn't Noctis just warp is way in...

Haven’t yet played FF15 myself, but I’ve noticed this sentiment from others:

LOL @ Pitioss dungeon being everything i wanted from Tomb Raider or Uncharted the last two gens that they pitifully failed to deliver on

Literally one of the best FF dungeons ever.

Can't at XV finally giving me a worthy successor to Tomb Raider PS1 era tombs...

Play FFXV Pitioss dungeon

Realise that is the true embodiment and current update of Tomb Raider PS1 era tomb designs...even with the clunky platforming in parts (tehehe) ...I am absolutely serious bout this point btw.

Make a game with tombs like that with a goofy plot.

Chuck out the pseudo-uncharted style they have going on and never return to it

Ty.

Yes, please I'd love to go back to the old Tomb Raider games from the PS1 era.
Give me way more puzzles and less shooting of people.
I rather investigate immense ruins with tons of puzzles, traps, and creepy creatures.
I don't want to have to face the military every few minutes either.
Also, more badass-ness, like old Lara.

I haven't thought of this.
You are completely right, now that I think about it, [the Pitioss Dungeon] is definitely how a Tomb Raider game should be and look in current systems.
That was the best level/dungeon I've ever played, perfect.
Yes, please.

Yeah, Pitioss was designed for Super Meat Boy tight controls lol. Amazing dungeon and better plattforming than any modern Uncharted and Tomb Raider combined. FFXV has pretty good controls but Noct sure tends to take a step too many which is a problem in Pitioss.

Best FF dungeon ever.

The spiky skull puzzle is better than a lot of stuff you find in Zelda games. I was amazed by how brilliant it was.

Then I arrived to the underground area which was utter shit.

Weirdly enough, I liked the overall experience.

I gave up half an hour in because the platforming is pure shit. This would have been a good idea in a better game.

Platforming is easy once you figure out its heavily assisted/semi-automated; You just have to point the camera at where you want to land.

Great dungeon, although its length makes it a bit of an epic on first playthrough.
