So the 3DS 2013 lineup is impressive, any other handheld had one that rivaled it?

You're being immature trying to understand this. It's pretty easy to grow tired of things. Ask for any ex-player of MMO games.
Growing tired =/= outgrowing. Thanks for using the word immature wrong though?

So... Should I start liking Nintendo games in general to be more mature?

As I previously stated, I'm not a fan of Nintendo's current offerings unless they release Mother 4 or some remake.
Yeah that's totally what I said.

Well a few more than 3 ports actually:

Donkey Kong Country
Lost Vikings
Mega Man & Bass (First time it was released in the US. This version suffered mightily due to the low GBA screen resolution, however.)
Mother Collection
Rock N Roll Racing (particularly impressive port as it nearly matched the sound quality of the SNES version)
Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3
Sword of Mana (remake of Final Fantasy Adventure)
(I didn't include LttP in my list because it was released in the US in 2002.)

I think the point I was trying to make was that the GBA had a lot more support than the 3DS currently does, in terms of ports of old games, small-scale adaptations of large scale games, and totally original games.

Sword of Mana is a remake and as you said Mega Man & Bass was never released in English. I was responding to someone saying he saw a lot of SNES ports that he had already played. Worth noting as well that in the US SMB3 saw 10 new (difficult) levels with the e-reader cards, and 30 total for Japan. If you waited this long though they are somewhat expensive even for the US cards.

What do we expect from E3/TGS anyway?

E3 probably won't have a lot of new high-profile stuff after Nintendo blew their load with the last Nintendo Direct but I could see some possible announcements:

E3

Call of Duty (made by n-Space rofl)
New Etrian Odyssey: Millenium Maiden (maybe too early for this)
Fantasy Life (although this could be a 2014 title to escape Animal Crossing)
Phoenix Wright 5
Youkai Watch (probably not, or 2014 at the soonest)
Dragon Quest VII (squarelolnix)
Monster Hunter 4
Something Sonic related

TGS

Virtue's Last Reward sequel
Bravely Default 2
Dragon Marked For Death (inti creates developed, MAQL published game with online functionality)

Probably Metacritic then, in which case it probably is the best lineup a handheld has seen in a single year.

I know you think I'm being a dick because I don't like the 3DS from a technological standpoint, but I'm honestly not. I've never been quite sure how you're supposed to objectively rate a library. I'd take the Vita launch lineup over the 3DS 2013 lineup without question because there are / were more games that appealed to me personally, but I'd totally understand if that made you incredulous. You can't sell Fire Emblem on a guy that doesn't like SRPGs, just as you can't sell Uncharted on a guy that doesn't like action adventures. I don't know if the way to determine the 'best' should be sales or scores.

None of this actually matters to the individual, but it's the topic of the thread, so what are you going to do?

Dave is one of the good ones, fellas

It's a bit of a shame that you don't like most of the mentioned games. Seems like the urge to own new hardware is what made buy you the 3DS in the first place :lol

Personally, I'm excited about lots of the stuff mentioned on the list, but probably won't have the time to play them all; Fire Emblem and LM2 + some other stuff are on my to-buy list, and that's fine I think

Well, we know some games are already under development for 3DS: Senran Kagura 2, Bravely Default 2, Dragon Quest Monsters remake of the second one, Rune Factory 5. I'd want to see Treasure game.

You struck me as an Animal Crossing kind of fellow. Why not?

I like the idea, but I find myself a little bored after awhile. I'm not too big on the slow paced life-sim game design. I dig what it does, but I'm the kind of guy who'll play it for awhile, forget, and boot it up six months later when I remember. And though that's cool, it doesn't really justify the purchase.

I mostly feel the same way. Already bought FE: Awakening this year but aside from that there really is only 2 or 3 other 3DS titles (LTTP 2 and Animal Crossing) coming out this year that really, really interest me to the point that I will get them at launch. Of course now, this has got to do with my own personal taste in games.

Yeah, it's just personal taste with me too. It doesn't bother me, mind you. I'm happy with what I'm getting for the 3DS this year, as I'm getting a lot of other stuff elsewhere.

Hell, release one good Metroid for 3DS and if that was the only game I bought I'd still be happy.

I'm kinda struggling and going through my excuses of not getting 3DS. Any worthwhile titles NOT released in the EU vs. US?

I just ordered 999 and Radiant Historia for the DS for pennies so region free is really important to me. Or atleast used to be.

I dunno. The only thing that I want this year for 3DS is just SMT4 and that's a maybe. I already got Soul Hackers which was great.

I'm not a Nintendo fan (anymore, probably outgrew it), strategy fan, so my pickings for 3DS will be pretty slim.

So Nintendo is still teh kiddiez.

"Outgrew" is a figure of speech that does not mean "I became a mature adult and no longer like baby stuff". It means that as time passed and as someone developed/changed, so did their taste and personal preferences. They outgrew something.

True indeed. But it could also mean this:

I'm not just a fan of Nintendo's current offerings because well... They're kinda kiddy now in my point of view. Plus add in the factor I grew up with Sega more than Mario.

I totally forgot that it's been almost a year since RF4. My gut says Treasure's 3DS game is published by Nintendo.

Actually, it can mean both. Not saying that ULTROS! meant it that way but it wouldn't be too far-fetched. We are talking about Nintendo games after all...

I feel like I spent an absurd amount of money on DS games in 2006. 2005 started slow but once things picked up in the second half of the year it was an absolute onslaught of software too.

I only care about one, maybe two releases.

One being SMT IV as a definite.

Project X Zone is in the "maybe" pile.

(Three if Devil Survivor 2; Break Code comes out in NA this year. (another definite))

I think people need to start making distinctions between what they PERSONALLY want to play and what line up will resonate most with a userbase.

I think a lot of people are doing the former rather than the latter.

For example, I wouldn't play too many games in that 2010 PSP line-up that Takao posted but I can recognize that it's a damn good line up. I feel like some are letting their attitude toward the 3DS cloud their vision in terms of how solid this 2013 line up really is in terms of garnering interest.

But of course, its perfectly fair to gauge the line up based on personal preference. That determines what games we buy in the first place, but still, even if you don't like the games coming out for the 3DS - you still have to acknowledge that it's a really good line-up of software. Unless you're just that jaded!

DS in 2006 had:

NSMB
Tetris DS
Animal Crossing (EU)
Metroid Prime Hunters
Super Mario Hoops 3 on 3
Starfox Command
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon
Pokémon Ranger
Magical Starsign
Clubhouse Games
Final Fantasy III
Children of Mana
Elite Beat Agents
Yoshi's Island DS
Mario vs DK 2
Kirby Squek Squad
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin

GBA in 2005 had:

Pokémon Emerald
Final Fantasy IV
Mario vs DK
Legend of Zelda Minish Cap
Gunstar Super Heroes
Fire Emblem Sacred Stones
Megaman Zero 4
DK King of Swing
Mario Party Advance
Mario Tennis Power Tour
Sigma Star Saga
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie's double Trouble
Rebelstar Tactical Command
...and many more

In my honest opinion, 3DS in 2013 is not that impressive. 3rd party is almost non-existent. There are PXZ and atlus games but nothing more. Nintendo games themselves can't even compare with Nintendo's past handheld output.
Wth is this? Lmao...

I got bored with NSMB NDS and thought it was lame and really enjoyed Heavy Rain. There's nothing wrong with that. So sue me. :p

Normally I'd agree with you, being that opinions are opinions and all, but enjoying Heavy Rain that much does objectively make you a terrible person. Off to prison you go.

DS will have it licked then. The software sales on DS killed the 3DS numbers. Absolute sales must be how we measure what resonates with a userbase.

Heavy Rain was a phenomenal experience, so there :p

This is also a fantastic lineup. I do wish more of it had come out in NA, and that 3rd Birthday and VC2 hadn't turned out so disappointing. Still, those top four games are great and the genre variety probably beats out what the 3DS will see.

Despite all the "dedicated portables are DOOMED" proclamations, it's been a fantastic decade for the devices, from about the time GBA SP came out to now.

I'd take the Vita launch lineup over the 3DS 2013 lineup without question because there are / were more games that appealed to me personally,

OMG I know SmokyDave is SmokyDave, but that has to be one the most SmokyDave opinions I've ever read from SmokyDave.

There's nothing (exceptionally :P) wrong with him preferring it personally, buuuutttt...looking at things objectively is another issue. I can look back at the GBA's 2003 lineup and say, "That was damned good year", even though I don't personally enjoy a lot of the franchises on that list (Advance Wars, Banjo Kazooie, Lufia, Rayman, Sonic, etc.), because the quality of those games were exceptional.

Agree wholeheartedly. For someone like me, the Vita had a really solid launch.

Which basically means that the answer to this topic is "Yes."

;)

And this from an Atlus fan :P

He's not really a SMT fan.

Pretty much. I love Kaneko, but the only actual SMT game I really care about is Nocturne (And DDS, to whatever extent that counts). I'm much more of a Persona man.

Now, if someone said that I wasn't really a Persona fan, I'd take issue with that, haha.

True indeed. But it could also mean this:

It's more like a combination. I outgrew it and in my personal point of view, it's kiddy to me. Similar how I used to think Power Rangers was awesome, then I outgrew it and when I tried watching the newer episodes, I thought they were kiddy in my point of view, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's kiddy for everyone else,

What do sales have to do with this thread :/
I understand the point; however out of relevancy I'd maybe take a wider view of:
- Impressive for you personally
- Impressive for gaf as a whole

Sales take in a really wide group of people. Moshi Monsters games would make a big impact on the UK in terms of that sort of 'impressiveness'.

If we go down the sales route and all that it becomes a pissy contest against certain views.
High Quality and High Selling games (not necessarily the same game doing both) is probably the 'best' you can get though I suppose.

I don't think too much should be put to it though; especially with a changing market.
List games - the more solid the line up for you is the one I suppose you should care more for.

All I know is that 2013 is already making 2012 look even more laughable. I really really hope Nintendo keeps this up!

Why is there no list in the op? Only thing I'm aware of that's interesting is SMT4, kinda. I'm sure there are others.

What new Mario or Zelda game is coming out?

For Zelda, there's a 3DS sequel to A Link to the Past coming later this year/early next year.

Mario Golf: World Tour, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Mario and Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move, and the new 3DS Mario Party are all coming to 3DS this year.

I'm getting the SMTs and I've already got Fire Emblem + Monster Hunter

Its a serious list of games but realistically I don't care for most of them. That said, those 4 already scream a damn good year

DS had many great years, but not so early.
I think this might well be among the best yearly line-up for an handheld.

In Europe, for example, we're having:
Fire Emblem: Awakening 2
Inazuma Eleven 3
Shin Megami Tensei IV
Luigi's Mansion 2
Animal Crossing: New Leaf
Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers
Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy
Project X Zone
Etrian Odyssey IV
Bravely Default: Flying Fairy
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past 2
Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate
Mario Golf World Tour
LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins
Mario PArty 3DS
Pokémon X / Y
Code of Princess
Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D
Batman Arkham Origins Blackgate
Yoshi's Island
Devil Survivor OverClocked
Guild 02
Harvest Moon: A New Beginning

And some others might still be announced sooner or later:
Dragon Quest VII
Fantasy Life
Ace Attorney 5
Rune Factory 4

Damb you Europe and your inazuma elevens. Why doesnt level 5 want my money?

Only 3DS games I'm looking forward to this year really are Mario & Luigi, Pokémon X/Y and Zelda. But I'm really looking forward to those games.
