So uh, Titanfall 2 Campaign is amazing

So I just brought back the arc gun...and I'm still bored out of my mind.

Should I just forgo the single player at this point?

:/

well tbh you're basically at the end of the game so...

Wait really?

And you guys are comparing this game to the Half Life series?!

I mean, there's no character development, no investment in a single component....dialog is terrible and gameplay is nothing revolutionary...level design is extremely simplistic, graphics are very flat and lacking in atmosphere...man

Dude, even sound design is dull as fuck.

I mean, to each their own, but man...

I was skeptical of all the praise, but I really enjoyed the campagin. Not best ever for me, but it's a very solid 8/10. Had solid gunplay and interesting set pieces, with inspired level design. Worth a play from any shooter fan I feel.

I mean, I think the opposite of your whole post so okay. It is subjective though.

I think TLoU is a pile of shit, for example.

Go and finish the game tho, the rest of that level, and the next 2 are dope

Ok, you dont like the game....any of ot....literally....but your comment regarding the sound design is utterly atrocious....i recommend you get your ears checked out...

Unlike Half Life 2, the pacing of this campaign is brilliant. Doesn't feel like there's any filler.

This is one of those games that I wish had filler so that I could slow down and enjoy the sights. I was wall running, warping, and dashing the entire game.

It is the same for every competitive FPS and every one lived on just fine.

Not true. One of the Call of Duty titles matches people with low ranks only before you graduated into the bigger pool. Overwatch also matches people based on character level in Quick Play.

In fact, most games including COD tries to group low levels together. It's just that parties break the matchmaking or they eventually prioritize filling the game rather than going for quality.

I'm actually pretty happy with the matchmaking in TitanFall 2 in general but it does fall short of Overwatch's because of their focus on quality over speed.

Defeated the first dude Kane.

It must get better right?

It does...just not for a long time. Aside from a unique gameplay mechanic in one of the mid game levels, it pretty much keeps the pace of the first mission until the last 2 missions (out of 9-10 missions total I think).

Had a very quick crack at this yesterday. Surprised how good it looked.

My copy is coming Monday or Tuesday. Very happy the terrible MP only has 3 basic achievements.

Read above ^

I can't bring myself to use a crane to move walls around. There is just no forward momentum- no driving incentive to this game.

Just finished this last night in a couple long sittings, and it definitely has to be one of my favorite FPS campaigns ever. While there isn't a particularly strong narrative, the moment to moment elements and gameplay are so memorable. I can see myself playing through it again in the future.

Awesome moments:
-Freeze frame explosion from Ark test.
-Giant Titan battle after the missile volley against the wall chasing the Draconis take off
-Navy seals in space when you team up with other pilots during the air space battle
-Auto pistol mayhem after "BTs death"
-Last platforming section when Ark is about to explode

I loved the campaign. Some minor rough spots but it was pretty amazing overall. Didn't expect some of the turns in the story and even the ending credits was fun to watch. I hope there is some story DLC.

This has been the best FPS campaign I have played in a long time. Next to Wolfenstein this has to be one of the best in the last 5 years.

Beat it this weekend... Just awesome. The arc stuff was just so much fun.

I'm awful in the multiplayer though lol. Love it though. Easily the best shooter I have played since wolfenstein.

I just wanted to say that the
ark time freeze explosion
moment looked INSANE on PS4 Pro. my jaw dropped

Yeah, I basically went nuts.

I don't see how playing against more experienced players means the game is unbalanced, everyone starts somewhere, and the games gives you enough good tools at level 1 to deal with any situation, hell the starting AR and SMG are among some of the best weapons in the entire game.

Lots of games have level/noob matchmaking for people to get their feet wet. Balancing was the wrong word, that seems fine, just the matchmaking. Trust me, I had very little fun getting curb stomped because I didn't know the maps/weapons/meta and if it is going to be like that until I can put hours of time in to learn all that and be on a level playing field, forget it. Already traded it in, which is fine, I bought it for the awesome campaign.

Finally started the campaign after getting my PS4 Pro and ended up blowing through it in just a couple days because I couldn't stop playing it. Definitely better than I could have even hoped for, well done Respawn.

I thought the campaign was good but the only weird part for me is all the characters that it tacks on in the last few missions... it seems like the game really expects me to care about them (to the point of giving them spots in the end credits) even though it spends literally no time introducing them or making me understand who they are / why they're important.

I'm about half way through the campaign and not particularly impressed. Enemies have no charisma, the platforming mechanics are well-executed but not particularly fun, and the interaction between the Titan and your character falls completely flat.

Great visuals and art design but I'm not seeing anything that breaks the mold in terms of worldmaking. I guess I'm just poisoned from recently playing Uncharted 4, which makes everything else seem like... well, a video game.

On my third run through with my son. Have to admit, some of the sections just blow my mind every time. The
urban development factory
is so fcking insane lol. The way it
builds out the level in real time right after BT gets snagged
is just crazy. It really is like the best fps campaigns ever made just without the filler. So good.

You're allowed to think what you want, but the bolded is straight up wrong. Even earlier levels like the warehouse one with all the moving platforms are faaaaaar from simplistic. COD levels, basically just corridors, those are simplistic.

Beat the game. Fell for gaf hype again. Can't believed this was compared to a platinum game or being the super mario galaxy of shooters. The
time travel
section was awesome I admit but going off everyone in this thread you'd think the whole game was full of things like that.

This thread basically changed my perspective from pleasantly surprised to mildly disappointed. For me Titanfall 2 falls into the category of solid game that has been overrated due to being a departure from the norm.

I can definitely see where people in thread are coming from, I just don't agree with the premise that the game really executes its ideas well enough to be labelled as incredible or "amazing". I can appreciate the idea behind the platforming and movement mechanics but I don't think they did enough to properly integrate it into actual combat. I mean you could probably go out of your way to mesh them together constantly but it's not tightly woven into the level design by any stretch of the imagination. Most of the time combat and platforming felt like two separate games. Conceptually speaking the
factory
level was cool but actually playing it felt like a chore up until the last part. The clear stand out was the
time travel
level which was quite brilliant. The way that particular mechanic was seamlessly activated and integrated within the actual gameplay was amazing. I'd go so far as to say the entire game should have been designed around that premise.

Again, Titans in theory are incredibly cool but the way they are implemented here is okay at best. It's not exactly hard to make them fun to play, they're mechs with gigantic weapons. Watching the grunts run straight for you only to die in droves with 2 seconds was pretty daft as well. Finally we have a FPS that had the potential for good boss fights but they somehow ended up feeling like one of the weaker aspects of the game. None of them were particularly hard or even interesting, and the tacked on "personalities" of each boss were pretty dire. The characters in general are basically non-existent and the story is just there (which for some people is a good thing). The Titan to player relationship was another fail for me - BT's dry delivery and literal commentary were a constant annoyance. The game length was relatively short which is normally fine, but I found the first 2 hours quite bland. When the entire experience is only about 6 hours long, that's one third that's not particularly good. The unskippable credits were another minor annoyance, especially when half of it just giving cheesy introductions to characters they spent 2 seconds on in the actual game.

The foundation and core mechanics of the game are very good. Gunplay is tight and all the weapons sound/feel great. This feels like a game which could have a potentially incredible sequel, but as it stands right now it's merely good.

The factory level felt fuckin incredible and I felt the level design and enemy types absolutely rewarded using your platforming skills in combat. I guess you could play some encounters like CoD...but why? It's like people who play the uncharted games as strict cover shooters.

I do wish the campaign had the movement abilities that multiplayer has. Being able to mess with those encounters and environments with Stim or a Grappling Hook would be awesome. I suppose that adds a lot of burden to level design though since it vastly extends your reach.

I bought the game because of this thread and I just played this level. I was absolutely blown away by the design.

just finished it, seriously great campaign!

so much character development in half-life, right?

Redboxed it and played through the campaign today and came away underwhelmed. It was good and all, but threads like this had me way overhyped I guess. I liked Doom a ton more. I especially don't get the comparisons to Half-life 2 since the story and characters here are super generic.

The
time travel
level was awesome, but nothing else stood out to me at all.

Did I just read "poor sound-design?"

Wow. I played with soundMAGIC earphones and one part especially sent chills down my spine

Finished it, such an awesome campaign. While I liked all of it I think the middle was the strongest in term of unique level design.

Wish there was more non story single player stuff to do like a mission mode or even an arcade mode like in CoD4.

Multiplayer is great as well of course.

Am not very far into the campaign, just got the game today, but so far it is fun on a basic visceral level - the combat feels incredibly smooth, accurate and meaty. I like how they give you a lot of gun options right away. Graphics are impressive. Only just finished the second "sewer" area and so far the story feels pretty generic, but I'm only just beginning.

It's really amazing, I definitely didn't think anything would top doom for me this year, but titanfall 2 is incredible in a different way.

I'd have a really hard time ordering them for my GOTY, because they are both so awesome.

Hey, look at the box again. It should say "Titanfall 2" not "Haze".

Pretty sure you're playing Haze.

This thread has convinced me to check the campaign out. Still not doing Doom though, not a horror guy.

Doom isn't a horror game. It never pulls jump scares or anything. Its all about giving you a shotgun blasting heavy metal music and letting you literally rip apart demons.
