So what does Sony have for holiday 2015?

Spring starts in March.
A March release would mean Q1. If ND was gonna release in March I get the feeling they would have said Q1 2016, so "Spring" most likely means later in Spring which most likely means a delay to Fall for the holiday season. Why release the biggest exclusive on PS4 in Spring when Christmas is right around the corner? Might as well just wait a few more months for extra holiday sales. That's my prediction on what will happen.

I highly doubt Hennig has anything to do with the delay.

People find some random tidbit of behind the scenes info and suddenly it means that the entire game development hinges around that.

Considering they had to change antagonist as well, I imagine the storywent back to the drawing board. It definitely didn't help (and yes, they were probably still making the actual game while the story was being rewritten).

The thing is none of us will ever be able to truly be able to know the real reasons unless ND or Sony say it. It might just be a lot of small reasons that snowballed. Hell I'm she some conspiracy theorist here will start to wonder if it got delayed to compete with QB.

Great all of that is true. I agree with it. It has nothing to do with Sony's first party output. You can do all of what you mentioned and still make your own games which are great and sell millions of copies. Sony isn't doing that right now and the guy who overheads that isn't doing a very good job.

I agree with this idea, if we see the output of software from SWWS we see a worry trend, with the exception of TLOU:R and MLB 14(It always have broken online, so one more strip to the tiger does nothing) most of the games were either delayed, critically panned or even broken at launch. I think DD games like Resogun and other smaller titles are exceptions (and great games as well) but if we only focus on their "AAA" retail games, Sony as a publisher has been doing a terrible job since the release of the PS4. Also there seems to be a problem that Sony is incapable of making their studios more prolific. Turn 10 release a Forza game every 2 years (with its own issues I may add, like Forza 5) but they are at least releasing games, PD to compare have make an INCREDIBLE job at supporting GT6 on PS3, but one has to wonder why wasn't the game planned for PS4 from the beginning? Why wasn't the game quickly ported to PS4 last year at least? Are we going to wait 1-2 years more for the next GT on PS4? What is Santa Monica doing? Are they going to take another 2 years to ship something?

As platform holders Sony is doing great, as a publisher they are making several mistakes in their retail arena while they are having a few hits with their indie,DD strategy. I want them to do better because that would mean more and better games to play, but so far other most of their games have been underwhelming.

I don't know why people are harping on games not being "system sellers" when so far this gen has proven that a system doesn't need exclusive AAA games to sell well.

When was the last fall Sony had a great holiday line up of exclusives? Serious question. PS4 launch seems like best in last few years to me off top of my head.

2012 was light too if I remember.

Correct me if I'm wrong but we haven't even had a Japan release date yet. Unless they are doing the translation in tandem it just seems to be a game the could easily get delayed until the new year.

I mean, initially it was going to be Winter 2014 for Japan, but all we've heard since then is 2015, no reason to think it won't be, it's still early in the year.

Is there an actual chance of seeing The Last Guardian or is my fragile heart being played with? At this point it seems too good to be true to even see it shown again.

This is a stretch that Mr Fantastic would be proud of.

Too much freedom or not enough pressure?

Wouldn't be surprised if they have very little first party exclusives this holiday once again.

Why is this somehow a common and reasonable expectation?

Maybe we need a chart and some data of how common mountains of first party exclusives of the same quality are released together in the same holiday season

I highly doubt that this has ever been the case for any of the big 3

God of War games usually launched in spring (iirc) so it's not uncommon.

Well yeah, why would you think it isn't?
Historically, the localization turnarounds for the Persona franchise have always had significant lag... although I can understand Atlus' intention to change that for Persona 5.

Persona 3 {PS2} - 13 months between Japan and domestic release
Persona 3 FES {PS2} - 12 months between Japan and domestic release
Persona 3 Portable {PSP} - 8 months between Japan and domestic release
Persona 4 {PS2} - 5 months between Japan and domestic release
Persona 4 Golden {Vita} - 5 months between Japan and domestic release
Persona Q {3DS} - close to 6 months between Japan and domestic release

They have been progressively getting better so there's that and the Arena games have typically been brought over in less than a month but given that Japan doesn't even have a concrete date for this year yet, some trepidation is warranted.

I've been expecting a Fall 2015 release for Japan and a Spring 2016 release for North America pretty much this entire time.

Too much freedom or not enough pressure?

For what I remember from an interview with a guy that went to Studio Japan to be the head after years of Studio Japan shipping nothing, it seems that Sony gives to much freedom to most of its developers. Though it may be only something strictly affecting Studio Japan.

Spring/early summer worked out pretty great for The Last of Us

I don't like Souls or Persona so I guess this'll be the first year that I don't buy a single Sony exclusive.

I'd imagine it's squeaky bum time over at SWSS right now.

Aside from Persona and some remasters, I think games like Rime and The Witness will release this year. No Man's Sky is a decent possibility as well.

I think Sony will have some E3 release date surprises as well.

Regardless it will be one of the better years in gaming. Bloodborne, The Witcher 3, Arkham, MGSV, and a nice handful of great indie games. WE WILL BE HAPPY, lets not allow one delay to destroy our perception of the year ahead.

Sony might do a marketing deal, similar to the Destiny deal last year. This years CoD maybe? And then consider that game as the big PS4 game for the holidays.

OK for those who own and play on PS4 as their Primary

WE will have mountains of shit to play as always

For PC guys who bought it for the exclusives. Play PC and let it sit there until they come out as always

I mean what a weird thing. To blow 400 bucks on a platform you have no investment in and than come in here and complain about how it has no games.

It has plenty of games

Two trains of thought. Ones possibility is that Sony has seen what a holiday season with no big exclusives did this past year and figures that keeping the momentum the rest of the year is good enough so this won't be a problem or they have known for a while that ND had to delay UC4 and have been making deals or pushing other studios to have something ready that well be announced at e3.

Realistically these are their two paths. Not doom, not conspiracy theories, just reality.
