So what is stopping you from gettinga 360?

I have to admit that maybe -- MAYBE -- I'd seriously consider buying the 360 if it didn't look like sh*t through VGA. Ironic, huh? If you don't believe me, do a google search and you'll read lots of reports of how the colors look dull and washed out when the 360 is connected to a PC monitor via the VGA cable. Come on, Microsoft, there is no excuse for that.

;(

I can't believe how many people actually believe the 360 is going to be the only console with $50-$60 dollar games this gen.........

I will start considering a 360 when i'll see what the competition will offer and when the price will be like 100$ less or more.

News to me... I use VGA because it looks better than component. My HDTV has both inputs and maybe it is just the nature of LCD's, but the VGA cable looks better IMO. For some reason the native component cable of the 360 appears too dark. VGA is closer to NSTC.

Lack of production, poor system design, over the $200-300 price range of mine, Patrick Moore is an ass, can use the 360 pad on a PC anyway, already got an XBox, horrible backward compatibility support.

Of course lack of interesting games is another reason =P

my lack of money is stopping me from getting one at this point..

i have an xbox and DS as my main gaming platforms and I dont game that muhc lately.. however, I'm sure if I had a 360 I would be gaming alot more... if the price drops this year I'll get one for sure, but at $400 its harder for me to justify with my little income... if i get a better job than that wont matter.. i'll have a 360 before the year turns 2007 though, thats for sure.

Wow. That was funny.

Patrick Moore. Poor system design. :lol Priceless.

I don't understand the poor design comment. The 360 has the best all-around controller yet and the system is at the very worst inoffensive. However, the design of the dashboard and how it is implemented across games is fucking genius, and it's one of my favorite things about the 360. It feels like I'm stepping into a time machine every time I play the PS2 now.

Mainly the price, but also because of all the reports I've been hearing about defective systems. I really want a 360, especially for Oblivion, but these things at the moment are keeping me from getting one.

That is a great point. It feels so difficult to go back to the older systems now. They feel lifeless when you're playing them.

I personally was very disappointed with the original Xbox. Only strong Sega support and the Halo's saved it for me. So I'm a bit reluctant to jump in this time around.

With the 360 I'm seeing the same thing happening, only without the Sega support this time around...
PGR3 is great fun though, but I don't see many games for my taste coming out in the near future.

If I'd get one today I would pretty much use it for nothing but the Live Arcade games.

I probably will end up getting one down the line as I buy pretty much every system eventually. (Even got a WonderSwan :p)

It does have great western support I suppose, but most of those games don't appeal to me or will be multi-platform anyway...

dude sega published one of the best games on the system??

When more games I desperately want make it to the 360, then I will consider it. Otherwise without the key games the 360 is just a very expensive paper weight.

It was mentioned up above how the games are implemented with games, I was curious how.
what?? games implemented with games???

basically all the games are live enabled so you can always see whos on and what theyre playing...sending out invites is so easy and communication with friends is simple. all the games have achievements allowing everyone to see how they rank against everyone else

Money, plain and simple. I have wayyyyy to much of a backlog as well. I could not purchase a new game for the next year or so and still have "new" shit to play. But really, it's money. The HD era actually means Hard up for Dough.

How does the dashboard work with games? It sounds interesting but I haven't actually heard details.

You really need to see it in action to truly appreciate it. Basically, every game uses the same dashboard, and at any given time you can see what your friends are playing, as well as the stats of the game they are playing. You can chat with your friends no matter what they are playing, or send them invites. You can also compare the games you've played with your friends, and almost every game with a leaderboard has a "friends" leaderboard as well, which gives you a great opportunity to get bragging rights over your friends, invoking the old school arcade feel for the first time in YEARS. You can also download demos, play great live arcade games, and view trailers from the marketplace. Everything is at the power of your fingertips, and especially if you have a wireless controller, you don't even have to get off your couch!

At any time during a game you can press the guide button and it pops out so you can see your friends, change your settings, choose your custom music, send messages or voice messages to friends, invite friends to the game, etc.

Another thing that is just genius is the Achievement system as it really drives you to fully complete your games, explore modes that you otherwise wouldn't, and complete your games on harder difficulty levels. It's just a genius idea that Sony should rip off shamelessly if they have any sense.

However, it's hard to fully appreciate the dashboard until you actually have a 360 connected to the internet, and even then, it might be a month or two until you fully appreciate it. Everything flew over my head at launch but in the months since I've grown to love almost everything about the Dashboard and it really makes it hard to go back to the older systems.

I can't believe how many people with little to no 360 experience are bashing the system in this thread.

I'm really glad that the HD Era coincided with me finishing school and getting a pretty good job so I can get what I want, which would be all of the systems :)

For me? It's the Library... I don't do American RPGs so as good as Oblivion is I'm not interested. I don't do FPS so that kills another section of the Library, and in terms of racing games well I already finished Most Wanted on my PS2 and while I've enjoyed playing the demo of PGR3 the few times I've messed with it, the whole race to get points to buy more vehicles to race to get more points type advancement system just doesn't do anything for me anymore... I blame the last 3 Need for Speeds for making me feel that way now....

That's not really how PGR3 works but whatever...

i want one but don't have enough money. the new consoles are too much for me so i guess i've now become one of those casual gamers patiently waiting for the price drops.

Lack of HDTV (though I'll probably just end up playing on a 27" JVC CRT standard def)... but most importantly, TIME. Got a big project due in 2 weeks, then its free sailing for a while. I also have a ton of PS2 games I need catching up on.

I'm really excited for the tri-Ace RPG and of course Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. Even though it's not doing well at all in Japan, the Japanese support is already much better than Xbox 1's.

It was the cost of the system until Oblivion came out.. I just can't go w/o it. Too much of a fan and it's too much of a hassle to upgrade the video card on a laptop.

Since I was able to upgrade my computer a few months ago with company cash (since I work at home a lot) I got Oblivion for PC and thats the only game I really want thats out now. I was going to buy a 360 just for Oblivion but Im really glad I was able to get it on PC instead as I dont think I could do without all the great user mods like I originally thought I would be able to. So I dont know when I will get one now. Probably when PS3 launches.

Lack of time (an answer I'm surprised hasn't come up as much).

I've still got a hefty backlog of XBox V1, Cube and GBA titles in my backlog to plow through and without an HDTV it just seems silly to invest in an X360 until I deal with all of those issues.

I have picked up the Collector's Edition of Oblivion (X360 version) for $20 off retail and I've got easy access to X360s at work if I want to mess around on one, but for the time being it's still too difficult to justify the cost at full retail.

I guess in most cases the guys who won't buy a 360, are Nintendo- or Sonyfans who are so poor that they can only afford one console.

Clue me in then please. I was under the impression that the races earned you credits which are then used to unlock additional levels where you can use those credits to purchase additional vehicles. Kudos you earn are used to show your place leaderboard wise...

Is that not the case?

Or smart enough not to pay $400 for a system that just came out.

Welcome to NeoGAF.

Sad ain't it? I'm sure these people were deadset on bashing it even before it was announced
