So... when are we getting Season 3 of 1 vs 100??? (Answer: Never)

Ah for fuck's sake! Me and my friends loved 1 vs 100. It felt like a gateway drug for casual players.

I always thought that things like 1 vs 100 would be more appealing to the casual players than motion controls. It was a fun and simple game to play that everyone could understand and get to grips with quickly. It also put controllers into people hands and allowed people who would never normally pick one up to learn that they're not the barrier to entry that most people believe they are.

I played it with a few of my casual friends who hadn't played a video game in a long time and they had blast. Later that night we even started playing 'splosion man and trials hd. While I think Kinect has potential to be cool, I believe that simple, easy to understand gameplay mechanics are what's actually needed to draw in casual players.

This is a real shame.

This was a great game for me and my girlfriend to play together. We both got 11/12 acheivements, which I guess we'll never complete now. Still, they're a nice little memento of a fun game.

Although obviously very light, I thought this was such a great little idea, and something I'd never seen before on a console.

The thrill of getting into the 100 was great! Now I'll never be the 1 :o(

I saw this available and really wanted to try it. How exactly does it work? How do you make it to the 100?

It was kind of random based on how you did in the free play sessions. I always enjoyed watching how dumb someone was. i also enjoyed when the "one" would disconnect.

1. There weren't enough people playing the game.

I can't imagine this is true, and the number of players pretty much steadily grew.

3. The game only attracted core gamers instead of the expanded audience they were looking to lure onto Live.

This seems like a much more obvious reason.

Basically, with NXE, Avatars, Scene It, 1vs100, etc Microsoft made a very clear effort to attract the Wii audience. It didn't, because none of what they did is enough. Now they are trying to attract that audience with Kinect.

This is unfortunate, because looking at the smaller picture, whether or not a new audience got attracted by their efforts, their existing audience ate them up!

I really enjoyed this game. It was fun when you remembered it was on and hoped on half way though a round and ended up ahead of the people already in the room.

I was in the 100 once. It will be missed.

Fuck, really? This was really one of my favorite parts of XBL. Made me feel like I was almost getting something with my Live subscription.

Really felt like it was one of the few things MS was doing right with the service.

Could just be a casualty of a licensing issue. It's not like Microsoft owned the 1 vs. 100 IP.
I don't see how the IP would have any influence on the decision given the fact that the show was canceled two years ago. The IP had very little brand power here in the states (I think it still airs in Europe though).

No, it wasn't, and before you reply saying it was, consider that I know that 1 vs 100, hosted by Bob Saget, is no longer on the air.

Dam it was the only game my mom (and some other family members) ever had interest in. It was an awesome concept.

Hopefully they take what they learned and come up with their own concept for a game show so they wont have to pay royalties to whoever owns the rights to 1 vs 100. I just hope down the road they put out something like it

This does not make any sense, to me, at the moment. Everyone I know who has played 1vs100 has loved it. I have not run into anyone who went "Meh" after realizing that it was an actual game-show where you could win Microsoft points. It was fun and great to play with a bunch of people.

Most likely saw it as being too profitable and popular to be kept free and are going to release some sort of game show Kinect pack down the road.

Microsoft had such a great start this generation, but for some reason they are dead set on fucking themselves over before the finish line.

But...that's what I said! Isn't it? The Saget show was off the air years ago.

I'm confused. :p

Man, this is awful. This show was my #1 reason for firing up my Xbox last fall/winter. My wife wanted to get a gold membership just to save her progress. I was looking forward to another set of achievements (1 vs 100 is my only 100% D: ).

Noooo!!!! I loved this thing, me and my sister's would play this often. It was fun whining with people on live about obscure questions. :(

To be fair, as an ad-supported game it failed miserably because (at least in the UK), the only sponsors of series 2 were Bing and the Xbox Newsletter.

I also liked when they played the lobotomy Xbox adverts, they really helped convince me to buy the console I already own.

i thought it was partly live sub fee supported. :/ oh well, enjoy the extra money ms execs and shareholders!

So Microsoft invests tens of millions in creating this kinda massively live MP tech and makes bold proclamations about how big these type of experiences are going to be for them going forward, only to halfheartedly support the concept, fail to develop new games that use it, and bury it despite how many people played it and enjoyed the original concept? I mean, they more or less took it out by the river and told it to look at the rabbits while Ballmer shoots it in the head.

Yep... classic Microsoft. The project probably got canned because they couldn't find a good way to charge people to play it. :/

Possibly. But it mainly wasn't for Silver members because MS didn't want them near the dinner table. KEEP BEGGING FOR SCRAPS, KEEP BEGGING!

It's a pity cos it means the whole Primetime section is dead before it even took off.

What does the Saget show have to do with anything? You said 1vs100 was off the air so there couldn't be any license issues.

That's not what I meant. What I meant was I doubt the IP holder would do much to discourage another season of 1vs100 given that the brand has less value than it did when it was on the air. Heck, the show was already off the air when MS started this version.

a good game but there was far, far too much dead time for it to remain interesting on its own. Asking 25 questions in 30 minutes is just boring as hell.

Also you could very easily get around any IP issues by just calling it "1 vs. 1000." Also would mean a bigger mob, which would make players happy so win-win-win.

The show isn't off the air, I don't know why you keep saying that.

Well, that sucks. Wonder if it wasn't going to be financially feasible. Ad revenue must not have offset the cost of the servers.

Really sad. Regardless of who's fault it is, I'm sad. There was nothing else like it and really made good use of the avatar system and live infrastructure. Getting on with a party of friends to play sci fi trivia on a random weekday was so damn fun. I will miss this one greatly.

Well, there not making new ones here in the US. That's what I mean. :p

Yes, I know that's what you mean--I knew that from the beginning. I was just hoping you didn't realize it was international as opposed to realizing it was international and not caring. The IP owner (Endemol, who also own Deal or No Deal, Wipeout, Big Brother, Fear Factor, Kid Nation, Wheel of Fortune, etc) isn't American, the show still airs in many countries, and the Microsoft version wasn't US-only either. If there are license issues, the Bob Saget show doesn't have anything to do with them :p

Well I knew it was international but I thought the IPs work in a country by country basis.

Shows how much I know! :p

This is very sad, my girlfriend asks about this from time to time and I kept telling her maybe this fall. :( Very disappointing as this is one of the games we'd love to play together and she consistently kicked my ass at it.

Confirmed? Saddening. I was really looking forward to trying this out for myself. I saw my bro play it for a bit in season 2 and it looked like fun. D:

Being the only guy amping the fuck out (jamming on the Y button to dance) in the crowd was always hilarious.

Trivia was fun too. This has to be about $$$ as is usually the case with canned games.

This fucking sucks. One of the few games my gf enjoyed.

Awesome concept but probably not the best platform for it.

This was one of the few 360 games my wife actually wanted to play (other game: Peggle). She actually asked about it not too long ago. It sucks it didn't work out.
