One of my first "acts" once I was given membership here at gaf was to send gaborn a "gaborn news" thread idea. I was so thrilled when he actually used it!

I Always enjoyed reading his threads and posts. He seemed like a truly good person. RIP.
Heh, that's awesome. He posted some bizarre stuff. Some of it was super gruesome and graphic, which at times pissed me off, but he was always really open to critique, level headed, and just plain friendly. Liked him a lot.

Reading the headlines of some old Gaborn News threads to remember him....

It's like the Daily Mail meets National Geographic... he has a "horrible/depressing news stories" reputation but he had been mixing in plenty of science/nature news stories recently...

What?? How awful. Sympathies to his family and loved ones, and any who were close to him around here.

Rest in peace Gaborn. Even in death your threads are doing what they do best, making me depressed :( The forum will be a different place without you

It had to have been an accident. I was reading the thread he talked about his condition and in a follow-up post he said there were no major long-term complications.

Well I'll never be an athlete and I shouldn't go on any roller coasters that do a 360 because they can't safely unfuse my vertabrae, also makes it more difficult for me to turn my head. But other than that *shrug* no not really. Although my spinal condition also put me at risk for that episode of priapism I had a few years ago and made the thread about.

This whole finding out people who board on the same forum as you that have been around for a while are now dead thing is really surreal. So sad.

RIP, he was an iconic part of the OT.

Fuck! I had no idea he was ill, I really only know him from Gaborn News which led to some fantastic threads!
Too man RIP threads lately :-(

It had to have been an accident. I was reading the thread he talked about his condition and in a follow-up post he said there were no major long-term complications.

I'm starting to think it was an accident, too. I'm not dealing very well with all this, what hurts is knowing it happened so long ago and I was unaware for so long.

What??? No no no no no no... :-( I always appreciated gaborn and his threads. He was an great person. Always strong. His threads, while depressing, always started discussion and was a reminder of how awful this world can be and how we have to be better to each other. I will miss him dearly.

Gaborn news is finally off the air...-sobs-. Gaborn was a iconic poster. I've seen him mentioned on other forums before, he was one of the few truly famous gaffers, and rightfully so as he was one the best users here, I liked his threads and agreed with most of his views and despite how depressing his threads were, he was always a generally happy and friendly guy.

Depressing. I was hoping it was all just a big mistake, and he'd come in here and say "I'm not dead". Even in death Gaborn threads are depressing, I won't forget Gaborn. )=

I'm stunned and don't know quite what to say like so many of you. He was a huge part of GAF. I had noticed a few weeks ago he wasn't around but I figured he had been banned. I feel a little guilty now because I remember thinking, "good" because I was kind of mad at him for some silly reason. Ugh.

Still... My thoughts and prayers are with his family at the moment. I hope the rest of you GAF'fers are doing alright physically, mentally and spiritually...

I trust that Gaborn is off making everyone in the afterlife as depressed as he made us so many times. He was clearly a good person though. I wish him and his family peace and happiness.

Never really knew him well or spoke to him one-on-one, and I'm sad that now I never will. I really enjoyed his threads and he was always extremely eloquent and genuine in his arguments. So sad to see him go. RIP.

Kinda feels like losing a family member. His threads were seminal in the fact they ticked off a lot of the population for "OMG DEPRESSING NEWS WHY!!?!?!?!??!?!?!?!" kinda like My Little Pony-GAF did/does when they come over to the Off-Topic section.

Man, I loved this dude.

He was one of the first regular posters to accept me for me.

And with all the news stories he shared, he was always my best straight man.

Goodbye, Gaborn. I wish we could have met.

wow what a shocker...

RIP Gaborn, you will be missed. You were definitely an important member of this community.

Best wishes to his Family and Friends.

God damnit. This is terrible. This guy was responsible for many emotional rides the past few years, good or bad. Either way, he made an impact on me and I enjoyed conversating with him about things.

And again, I feel more angry than sad. I hate that our bodies are so damn fragile sometimes. Its not fair.

It's a shame to lose such a good poster. I often didn't agree with Gaborn, but he made his case well, and that's what really matters. We are definitely a lesser forum without him.

Damn it. I loved Gaborn's posts, and threads. Not joking. I really looked forward to them. One of the most accepting posters on the boards if you ask me. My account's been here since 2004 and he's one of the GAF legends from my perspective.

RIP, fella. Gonna miss ya round these parts.

This is shocking, terribly sad news. I was wondering just the other day why I hadn't seen him around and felt it was an ominous sign. Rest in piece Gaborn, you will be missed.

This has really hit my personally since I talked to Gaborn quite a bit off GAF, I want to make some sort of card we can all sign (digitally or I can type names) to let his family know how much he touched us all. I don't know how good of an idea this is though or if it's also kind of presumptuous and invasive.

It's clear his contributions here will be missed by many. We'd all be lucky to leave that kind of impression behind.

RIP Gaborn
