So which Link should we expect in Smash 5?

Unless the BotW guys can whip up Ganondorf & Sheik designs, TP Link (unless they pull a Toon Link & make Champion Link his own character). Smash seems to go for a similar design language amongst the Zelda characters, with the exception of Toon Link.

Well why wouldn't they?

At least for Sheik, there are already Sheika ninja clothes you can use in BotW.

BotW link for sure. I'd be very, very surprised if they didn't.

He'd have almost a completely different moveset from regular Link though. As some have already suggested, the roster might very well have both regular Link and the new one.

Or we hope for themed DLC BotW Link + BotW Zelda + 4 champions.

The base game will definitely be TP again or very similar.

TP shield designs already existed before smash, they just didn't use them in the final Twilight Princess game
Yes, but for all we know they have a spare Sheik design (actually the stealth outfit is really just that) and a spare ganondorf model somewhere.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Smash Sheik is basically an unused design for Sheik in Twilight Princess.

Yes, doesn't change that they should try to make and match the characters.

They could go with nu Link based off BotW and have old Link based off SSB4 unlocked later on, they did that for more minor characters like Lucas/Ness in SSBB.

If we were going to make a BotW link in smash, how would you change his moveset
I'd keep the bow and bomb as they are, and add Revali's gale as the up b and stasis to replace the boomerang (maybe make bombs side b and stasis down b). Probably make Urbosa's fury the final smash. Also maybe change his basic attacks to incorporate a bunch of different weapons beyond just the sword

Why does this Link look like he's some sort of possessed mannequin?

Jesus Christ.

Because it's a BotW model modded into Smash and thus it's rigged in a way the original model wasn't meant to.

Three Links: Toon, TP, Gerudo Link.

Hell, throw crossdressing options for both Link and Toon Link, both of them have incarnations that have crossdressed.

It's no question, we want the Link that has never made it to a Smash Bros before. I'm talking Saturday Morning Cartoon Link.

Probably a mix of multiple designs in one. Kinda like what they did with Snake from MGS. It was Naked snake + Solid Snake.

I think they should just make 1 link and have it be A Link Between Worlds style.

BotW Link with random breakable weapons for his A attack, you can never guess his speed or damage throughout the fight, it changes after x amount of hits.

No that's Twilight Princess Link, he's left handed and his amiibo unlocks Twilight Princess tunic in Breath of the Wild.

Also see that X shape stitching on his hat? Only Twilight Princess Link has that.

Yeah TP Link is the only one with the all hand made stitched tunic.

I'm more interested in them switching out Sheik for Impa. Keep the same moveset, just change the character. Keep Sheik as an alt if you must. But I don't see why we still have this one character that was only ever relevant like two decades ago when the franchise is starved for more representation and Impa is so prominent.

On the topic of link, I was under the impression that his Smash version was an amalgamation of several of his iterations rather than specifically TP link. At most I think they will make the blue tunic a costume. But something like the hookshot, for example, is way too iconic to be replaced by magnesis as his grab like you suggest.

TP Link should always be the standard Link, best Link

for Zelda, i think BotW Zelda is the best one yet

BotW had such a huge response that it would be cheap for the game to be represented like how SS was last time. Either add BotW Link as his own character or make him a costume. He has to be in though. Bonus points for adding a character like Daruk or Urbosa in the game even if they are one-off Zelda characters.

Link: Use his Champion attire from Breath of the Wild and update his moveset to include references to the Champions powers and breakable weapons.

Final Smash: Flurry Rush

Zelda: Give her her Champion attire and revamp her moveset around the Sheikah Slate.

Final Smash:
That attack she uses to seal Ganon during the finale

Ganondorf: Make the people that made the artwork for Breath of the Wild to wipe out a new design for Ganondorf that combine his classic traits with Demise (ala Hyrule Warriors) and give him a moveset around the Blight enemies.

Final Smash: His Calamity Ganon form

Sheik: She is perfect as it is, just give her the Sheikah armor from Breath of the Wild.

They should have BOTW Link as Champion Link, keep classic Link the same and give Toon Link a more unique moveset.

Sheik is one of the most popular characters in Smash Bros. She's a staple of the series.

BOTW moveset ideas:

- Recovery move could be an updraft with the ability to do a dive-arrow/attack after
- Stance change as a special move which'd change properties of normal attacks with different weapons
- Arrows and a remote bomb (that still explodes on hard impact) for the other special attacks
- Cryonis/Stasis/Magnesis based throw animations

Twilight Princess Link. Link Zelda and Ganondorf are always going to have their designs be from the same game

mmmmm still it is an analmagation of all links, not just twilight princess with brighter colors, it is blonde gosh darn it
Again, brighter colors. Every detail from a design standpoint matches with TP Link. BotW even recognizes the Smash Link Amiibo as TP Link.

Not to try and Jinx it since one can get easily irritated over the whole "Clone" argument in Smash, but if anything else, I wouldn't be shocked if we see something in terms of "Link," "Toon Link," and "BotW Link" (Name would need to be altered a bit).

You can argue that in terms of gameplay, this Link could have a variety of weapons for his attacks while his special attacks can be associated with the powers he collects. B would still be the Bow while the others can be adjusted to make whatever needs to happen (Or use one particular power for his "Final Smash.")

Hard to say if we will actually see this happen since I'm sure it would definitely change up Link's Dynamic if we used a "BOTW" moveset, but then I am usually one who wants to see Black Shadow from F-Zero get added in just for the sake of giving him Ganondorf's moveset so that Ganondorf can actually have a move set of his own.

While the designs of the Zelda characters clearly take their biggest inspiration from Twilight Princess, I think it's erroneous to conclude the SSB version of any fighter is any one specific version of the character.

The Smash versions of every fighter are just that: unique interpretations of the characters that best suit the game itself. They are amalgamous.

Smash 4 may have made Link & Zelda more colorful, but their designs are still very clearly Twilight Princess. Your point does apply to the Star Fox characters, though.

I can't see how it wouldn't be BotW Link. Although Twilight Princess had my fave Link design, we've had him for two games already. So l hope they go with BotW Link.

Yes he is;

Skyward Sword Link;

Regular Twilight Princess Link;

Note the X shape stitching on his hat and arm protector on his left arm.

Smash 4 Link;

You can clearly see that Smash 4 Link is clearly Twilight Princess Link.

i cant see those images at work, but why do you bring skyward link to this? i never said it was skyward sword link o.O

I'm gonna add my edits in bold here
BOTW moveset ideas:

- Recovery move could be an updraft with the ability to do a dive-arrow/attack after
Updraft 1st and then use the paraglider to glide when in the air
- Stance change as a special move which'd change properties of normal attacks with different weapons
Could be a similar system than Shulk, change properties of weapons (arrows + swords)
- Arrows and a remote bomb (that still explodes on hard impact) for the other special attacks
Simple arrows with property modifiers seems more interesting there (normal/fire/ice/thunder)
- Cryonis/Stasis/Magnesis based throw animations
would work better for nu Zelda, she's the owner of the tablet after all

Can't believe anyone is seriously trying to argue that Smash 4 Link is anything but TP Link.

The fact that his colors are a little brighter so as to be consistent with the rest of the game's art direction doesn't really negate that.

They already did, and were happy about it.

Yes. In one game. The classic green tunic is still what he's worn the most
BotW Link even has his own unique Green Tunic getup.
. He's been that way for 25+ years, one super successful game isn't going to change that, and if it does, I still adamantly stand by they wont change his moveset unless they add another Link to the roster.

It makes me doubt it even more knowing that "Open-Air" Zelda games are here to stay, and I'm pretty sure the next one probably wont have the same Link, thus making the Champions Tunic/Shirt obsolete by the time it comes out. Obviously this is conjecture, but I can't see a direct Sequel to BotW having champions and the new Link having the same basic outfit.

Smash 4 may have made Link & Zelda more colorful, but their designs are still very clearly Twilight Princess. Your point does apply to the Star Fox characters, though.

Their movesets are mashups of various games, though, which is why the concept that they'd trash Link and make him 100% BotW in moveset seems like not a very likely thing at all.

The nice part of TP Link is that the design is flexible and modern, while still allowing them to reference moves from the entire series and still treating Link as a generic "Link" and not one specific Link from a specific game (other than in visual design)

He needs to be dressed like Link, not some random soldier bullshit.

Don't care what model they use, he just better have his classic green tunic on.

No reason to not be BotW Link, with classic Link as a costume.

Smash 4 uses Skyward Sword Link, same color scheme.

No. The pants, the details on the shield. This is Twilight Princess Link.

I really hope we get BOTW Link. This new design is on point and we've had Twilight Princess Link for two games already.
