So will the next Persona game be on a Playstation or Nintendo system (or both)

I'm expecting PS360 or 3DS/Vita.
Multi-plat one way or the other.
Just depends on whether it's console-based (80-85%) likelihood despite Japan moving away from them) or portable-based.

Wii U won't be in play unless SMT X Fire Emblem goes gangbusters.

Oh boy. Here we go again...

My own thoughts: While there might be an entry in the future whether for 3DS or Wii U, it won't come before the next numbered entry, or, at the very least, it won't be an exclusive and it will be for consoles (it will definitely hit PS3, maybe Xbox 360, and might be hitting Wii U)

Personally, I would love to, but we'll see what Atlus is planning, hopefully before/around TGS

3DS and PS3.

If they were Capcom, that would be possible... Freaking MT framework tech they have.

How about...

Persona 5 - WiiU/PS3/PS4
spinoff - 3DS/Vita
Spinoffs as in a console port on 3ds? Nope. Own original spinoff? Maybe. People don't realize that the persona team and the mainline SMT are separate teams. The SMT team is nintendo happy but the persona team isn't. I don't think that the persona team is going to develop anything on 3ds/WiiU anytime soon. I think PS3 exclusive with a vita port down the line is likely.

I think its safe to say that a Playstation platform is a given. If its a console game then I can see it being on all three. Atlus has been working on expanding the brand on Xbox and they've been successful on Nintendo's handhelds and now are directly working with them on FE x SMT.

We've had this thread so many times.

Who knows but one thing for sure is that it will be on PS3.
Personally, I think it will be PS3 exclusive just like the other Persona games (not counting P4A)

Releasing P4G on the Vita would be pretty stupid if they were making the sequel for the 3DS. PS360 with a Vita port down the road, maybe Wii U too is my guess.

Wait, handhelds won't get an iteration of a side-series but get a real mainline entry (SMT4)?

Can you really call it a side-series when it's bigger and treated better than the main entries?

Considering Nintendo and Atlus relationship seems to be getting stronger, I wouldn't rule out a Wii U version.

With regards to the 3DS entry of Persona, it was listed along with SMT back when the 3DS was announced. So some sort of game may be happening but who knows.

And let's not forget DQ 9 for the DS. or MH 4 for the 3DS. Also Valkyria Chronicles 2&3 for the PSP.

I'm sure there are other examples of games jumping from consoles to handhelds.

Whatever the platform, it really is about time they announced it.

I don't have a problem with it being on 3DS if it doesn't involve making cuts to the game due to horsepower. I'd hope that P5 was a step up from Persona 4 graphically. I also hope they make some significant changes to the formula since P3 and P4 were so similar.

They always received a lot of support from Atlus. But just no Persona support.

Plenty of support, yes, but I was thinking specifically of SMT x FE in this case. I think it's the first time both companies collaborate directly together and I can imagine that a Wii U port of P5 comes out of it. For one it could be easy to port if both games use the same engine and I think there might also be going on a small deal in the background: Nintendo pushes SMT a little both in Japan and in the West, while Atlus on the other hand puts their games also on Wii U.

Anyway, that's all speculation. A PS3 version is a given, a 360 version is likely since Catherine sold quite well I think and while a Wii U version doesn't make much business sense in all likelihood there might be other things going on in the background helping the chances of such a port.

PS3/360 I imagine, but maybe 720/PS4.

I have no clue why why so many thinks Atlus won't release it on a XBOX system (outside of Japan of course) when they did so with Catherine and Arena, plus other games they have published this gen.

Why is there this assumption that a console release means it is being "treated better"?

Handhelds are extremely popular in japan, right now they are actually the bigger market. That's why we are seeing handheld exclusive Dragon Quest and Monster Hunter.

Yeah? And like Takao said before, PS3 had a main li e SMT game on their launch list.

Both of which are wishful thinking at this point.

PS3 or PS4 guaranteed, I'm 99% sure.

If they make a 3DS version, it will probably be a unique Persona game, not Persona 5. e.g Zelda has different console and portable Zeldas.

I don't think Atlus will release it on next gen. They tend to prefer a larger install base for their games (outside of P4G). I'd think PS3 or PS3/360 are most likely.

Probably on a Sony system. Though I do remember them saying that they're working on something for the 3DS as well, wonder how that's doing.

Indeed, Catherine was sort of a test for them, so it wont be a shock if we see Persona 5 on Xbox too.

Persona = Sony consoles

SMT main games = Nintendo consoles

I think is a bit tad late for a new Persona game for PS3. Maybe we'll see the next Persona on Vita then an upgraded port for PS4.

I would like to see Persona on PS3/Vita with cross-buy and cross-save or a PS4 game. But it will probably be PS3 only and 1-2 years after the launch of the PS4 and Xbox 720.

Persona 3 came out in 2007, Persona 4 in 2008. Both on Ps2, after the PS3's release.

It is not out of the realm of possibility.

First of all I doubt they will go with an HD console.

I would like it on 3DS. Judging by P4G on Vita, they are already sub-qHD so the lower 3DS resolution isn't going to be much of a bummer. The 3D will also give it more depth any way, like looking into a fish tank. These games really don't need much graphical horsepower to be effective. Also i'd like it to actually sell well.

But I also just bought an XL so might be biased.

I'd agree, but Persona 4 released exclusively for the PS2 in 2008 (2009 in Europe), Atlus isn't scared to support last gen systems.

But I wouldn't be shocked to see it on both PS3/PS4.

Persona 3 and 4 have been late releases too and it didn't prevent them from being succesful. I doubt that Atlus is jumping on the next-gen bandwagon any time soon.

I don't see them putting so much time into a game just to make it a portable release. I think we'll see portable P5 a few years after it's home console release.

I see it like Final Fantasy and Dragon quest.
Persona series lwill remain a Sony exclusive whilst the SMT series will be on Nintendo systems.
(And yes, I realise FF is on Xbox 360 too, and ofc the remakes on DS)

Even Persona 3 came to the west after PS3 released.

But I think it would be cool if they do cross gen PS3/PS4/Vita.

Well considering both SMT games that were announced back with the 3DS have since come to fruition, I would say chances are better than your example with the PS3....which is a very different situation to begin with, so I'm not sure its a particularly good comparison. In any case, I would say a 3DS Persona would be a remake rather than Persona 5. Unless they are planning to go 3DS/Vita or something.

Where is there this assumption that a console release means it is being "treated better"?

Where? Right here. Why? Because console games get bigger budgets and have more effort put into them because they face stiffer competition.

But that's not why I said Persona is treated better than the main series.

Mhmmm!

I imagine Atlus likes the extra sales as well.

Confused I am.
