I havent paid much attention to this game(or previews alone, seeing how its all hype marketing these days) but how close or not close is this to the original socoms? I've played all the games, and loved the multiplayer, are they trying to make this more like socom 2? also, do they have the pre-order bonus beta in Canada?
Yes the pre-order thing for the beta is in Canada, at EB Games.

I'm in the Private Beta that's going on right now. I don't think we're allowed to say too much, but I'll say that the game definitely feels like SOCOM.

Dev Q&A 13 today

Dev Q&A 13
Posted by David “Point Man” Brothers
David Seymour has five answers to five questions for us this time, hitting high points like how "one shot, one kill" will work, gun spray, and faction switching. Check the past Q&A's here.

How will Escort and Extraction modes play in Confrontation? Will it be like SOCOM 2 where the SEALs were always the ones trying to extract the hostages and escort the VIPs? Or will it be like SOCOM 3 where it will switch back and forth between SEALs and Mercs depending on the map?

The SEALs always escort the VIP’s and the SEALs will always have to rescue the hostages. The Mercs are always trying to kill the VIPs and attempting to prevent the SEALs from extracting the hostages.

Will the .50cal sniper rifle and other bullets of greater strengths still be a 1 hit kill no matter where you are hit, no matter what armor you are wearing? Can you elaborate more on strengths of bullet power in this game? I just do not want to see someone with heavy armor sponge 2 .50cal sniper shots...

There are no hard-coded game rules such as “this bullet is a one-hit kill”. Bullets are true physics projectiles with a velocity and force governed by our physics system, and there are many factors to consider such as armor, bullet penetration, multiple-penetration etc. Did the sniper bullet go through a wooden fence, through the character’s arm and then into his chest? That said, body armor is realistic in Confrontation and is not going to save you from a headshot. But here’s the problem with trying to label absolutes in a complex simulation – can you survive a long-range sniper shot if the bullet first punched through a sheet of steel on the door of the car you were hiding behind? What if it punched through two sheets of steel?

Will gun spray (primarily when running and gunning) be reduced to the level that it was in SOCOM 1, or will bullets spray randomly like in SOCOM 3?

In our opinion the amount of spray is appropriate to your speed, stance and weapon and is probably more similar to SOCOM 1 than SOCOM 3.

There seems to be little to no recoil in the pre-alpha videos that have released to the public. Is this how it will be in the final product or is that an aspect being refined greatly to match the recoil that existed in previous SOCOMs?

Early builds are missing many features and contain lots of bugs. Weapons will have realistic recoil comparable to previous SOCOMs.

Is it possible to change the army division you’re in? Let’s say you’re tired of USMC and you want to change to SAS. Can you do that or do you have to stick to the same one the entire time? I would also like to know if you can be apart of more than one army division.

Once formed, a clan cannot switch its Special Forces affiliation. You can only be a member of one clan at a time.

It's good to hear this from you of all persons.

You're dedicated, to put it mildly. :lol

SOCOM :D

How is the framerate? 30? 60? Locked?

Haven't noticed any frame rate drops. 30fps locked right now. But I haven't played in a room with more than 10 people so far.

But from what I've played the game is in better condition in the Private Beta then SOCOM 2 was when it released.

What kind of server set up are we looking to at the end here? Resistance/Warhawk goodness I hope.

I saw you playing the beta the other day, David, and noticed something I also noticed in Madden 09 recently.

Under your name, where it usually displays the name of the game you're currently playing, it had two lines. The first line said SOCOM Confrontation Beta, and the second line said In Game (or something like that, I can't exactly remember). Madden is similar: first line says Madden 09 and the second line says In Madden 09. I assume if you got the CE, it would say In Head Coach 09 or something.

Is this a sign of the PSN growing ever closer to XBL by showing not only what game you're playing, but your status inside the game as well?

Ya I noticed this looking off a few other people on my friend's list as well. I hope more games do it.

Better, much better.

If you've played a SOCOM game before, you'll know the lobby set-up. Plus in addition to that they'll have match-making with a party system in the final game for people who prefer that route.

I know they're going with the old lobbies and stuff which I loved. I'm talking about the quality of the servers/coding in general. Resistance and Warhawk rarely lagged, and when it did many of times it was barely noticeable and nothing game breaking.

And for those not preordering, if you know someone who did preorder from EB, I believe they're allowing you to take 2 of your friends with you into the beta as well, sharing your code. Good stuff.

Hey guys. If I preorder the game at a Gamestop today do I get into the beta immediately? If so can I invite the two friends right away?

They give you a code that you go to a website and register. They will then email you the actual code (that you can also share) sometime before Sept 1st.

Is anyone making an official thread for the beta? It starts in just a week, have we got any info on it? Maps, Weapons, Modes, Community Features? Any word on when they're e-mailing the codes out?

So, the Qore Beta invitation. Did it start already? How long must I wait? Fucking qore. This is such a drag.

Edit: September 8 huh? Draaaag.

The beta is only Cross Roads and from what my friends who are in the closed beta are telling me, all of the modes and community features are available.

Seth announced the details of the public beta last week, and I'm here to drop some more information on you on what's going into the beta.

As planned right now, the beta is going to involve Crossroads and Crossroads Large, the 16 and 32 player variations. You've seen the screens and videos, and maybe even figured out the general layout of the map, but you'll get a month to play on it yourself.

Beyond that, you'll have access to the full range of game modes. Extraction, Elimination, Suppression, and everything else are going to be represented. You'll be able to adjust the settings how you like, as well. Lock out certain weapons, or even entire weapon classes, if you like. If you hate M4s for some reason, you can shut them out of your game.

Character customization will be in, as well, from body armor to camo to headgear and beyond. There will also be clan support and stat tracking, but be aware that these will all be reset at launch.

Think of the beta as a test drive. It'll be the first time the gaming community at large, and SOCOM.com members in particular, get a crack at the game. The month'll let the team check gameplay, server stress, and a host of other important things. It'll be an interesting ride.

how do you get the beta again? or is it too late

Pre-order at GameStop, they give you a pass which allows you to register for a beta code (With an additional 2 to give to friends) or purchase the Qore episode that includes the socom beta entrance.

Negetive of the Qore route.. they start a week later. Pre-ordering allows you to play the beta day 1. Beta starts September 1st.

You can get a code by preordering from Gamestop. The other way to get in would be to buy the first episode of QORE.

Edit: Beaten.

Just use this thread. There is no purpose for another.

And it should be pretty easy to get a code seeing that every person who gets their own can share it with two other people.

I pre-ordered mine awhile back and our EB Games has yet to recieve the beta codes.. actually they claim to have no knowledge of a SOCOM pre-order bonus. Guess if I don't have it by the 8th I'll just buy that old issue of Qore.

If you're from NA, they're flat out lying to you.

Shouldn't we be receiving these codes soon by the way? Sept 1st isn't exactly a long ways away :lol
