Solange Knowles Attacked Jay Z In an Elevator

Its alarming to me how stoic Beyonce was in that elevator. to the point that I didn't even see her the first few times i watched the video. There has to be some reaction... or screaming or trying to split them up in some way.

As for Jay, he did exactly what he should have done. You don't Hit any woman, even Song Li. ESPECIALLY if it is in an elevator with security cams. That is career suicide and he knew that.

Plus the elevator made it worse because they had no room to move, but beyonce and Jay were probably thinking that the elevator would open at the bottom and everyone would see this fight spill out into the lobby... that is where I can see Beyonce trying to keep calm.

I just saw Solange perform live on Saturday. She was great. Totally surprised this went down.

OMG I almost made it through this thread until this one. Thanks for this.

Just curious:

Is there a reason people are faulting Beyonce for putting on a smile when the cameras were on her? I'm far from a Beyonce fan, but most people don't want their personal issues brought to light, especially someone who has cameras on them for most of their life. Don't see why Beyonce needs to be attacked for not bawling as soon as the elevator doors opened.

I think it's more of the fact that she ALWAYS comes off like that. She extremely hyper-aware of her image which is both good and bad. Good in terms of being an upstanding role model but bad in regards to looking like a relate able human being.

I greatly respect beyonce as an artist. She has a drive and determination that a lot of other artists don't possess and she's extremely successful because of it. However, put her in an interview and i'll cringe every time because she always seems like she's searching for the perfect answer or reaction as if not to stray from the picture perfect image she tries to imbue. Ironically she has so much passion and realness when she's performing.

All that being said, your sister and your husband are having a physical altercation and you just stand there not even so much as reacting. It only means 1 of 2 things. 1) This type of behavior happens on the regular. or 2) Keeping up appearances is more important than actually handling and getting involved in the situation like pretty much any other person would do

It's hard to know how involved she was without hearing the audio and knowing what she said or did to Solange on the ride back home.

Pretty much.

Don't know if it was posted but here is what NY Post said happen

Sources told Page Six that Solange had become drunk and “belligerent” at the after-party and was “like a pressure cooker waiting to explode.”

“Solange had too much to drink and was out of it by the time the performances started after the dinner at the Met Ball — she was dancing like a crazy person,” a source said.

Another source said Solange got into an argument with a pal, designer Rachel Roy, after arriving at the Standard and that Beyoncé came to her defense when another guest tried to intervene.

When the female guest asked Solange, “ ‘What is your problem?’ Beyoncé defended her sister and told the guest, ‘You don’t get to speak to my sister that way,’ ” the source said.

By the time Solange got into the elevator to leave with her sister and Jay Z, “she flipped out over something Jay had said, that she took the wrong way,” a source told Us Weekly. “Not sure what it was, but she greatly overreacted.”

Why would she be on Roc Nation? She has her own imprint. Distributed through Sony.

She is managed by Roc Nation.

All roads lead back to Rihanna

ny daily news said:
Beyonce’s sister went berzerk on Jay Z after the rapper insisted on going to Rihanna’s Met Gala after-party, the Daily News has learned.
Jay's camp had called ahead of time to say he would be coming alone and "didn't need extra security" because Beyonce wouldn't be attending, the source said.
Apparently, that didn't sit well with Solange.

"She seemed drunk and irritated," said a second source. "She said, ‘Why can't you go home?' and to Beyonce 'Why does your husband need to go to the club right now?'"

An incensed Jay Z didn’t back down. “You're one to talk," he replied, the source said.

hahah, if that's true... If you aint in a marriage stay out. And if you aren't really famous, don't try to use your famous connects to help your lame friends pretend that they are.

I'm surprised that there haven't been any "Bring It On" shops.

Maybe I'm the only one that watched that crappy movie :)

Honestly, I wouldn't believe a single story that comes out at this point. Bey's PR team is the stuff of legend, and they're probably in full swing right now.

Besides, WHO was close enough to the incident to hear these kinds of details?

Unless she hides it REALLY well, Solange just doesn't strike me as the type of person to lash out like that over a snarky comment, drunk or not. I mean, she was seriously trying to h u r t, Jay. Normally calm and collected people don't get that crunk for just nothing. Jay did something.

Watching the vid I don't think JayZ was being purely defensive in his behaviour. He takes some offensive action too, like grabbing her arm (when she is just finger waving at him at the end of the video) and seemingly putting his hand up to her mouth at another point. Shades of that other video where he's 'play fighting' with that other woman...

Are we trying to blame the victim here?

Not at all, Solange should have kept her cool physically whatever about anything else, she shouldn't have started it. I'd just read some report saying that JayZ was being purely defensive in his actions - kind of 'the perfect gentleman in the face of a frenzied woman' - but in the full video it doesn't look quite like that all the time.

All very unfortunate. Wonder what sparked it.

Media portrays it like she wasn't provoked in anyway, who knows what sent her over the edge. They make it seem like Jay accidentally bumped into her and she went crazy

Well the video is sort of one sided. Only thing it really shows is Solange going off on him. You want them to make shit up?

Read the story, breh. Those comments are stated to have occurred before they left in the elevator. It's still a tabloid, but come on.

Read it.

Still find it hard to believe that anybody would be close enough to that group to plant tabloid stories, complete with dialogue.

It just doesn't seem believable.

Close enough to the group? They were at a party???

FYI, Solange sober:

Solange reacts to something?

Of course the anchors are douches, but not sure why people are playing Solange off as the cool, calm and collected individual. She's always been known as the fiery younger sister.

So the tabloid has a source at the location of Rihanna's after party that confirms that Jay was planning to go alone...and they just so happen to also have a second source that was around the group at precisely the right time to confirm the first source and confirm the cause of Solange's anger?

Yeah, I guess it could happen in much the same way me finding wads of 20s left in my mailbox when I get home could technically happen, but I just don't buy a coincidence like that. Not when it comes to Bey, who's known for having an air-tight entourage.

Also, as for the video:

1) I STILL Kiiiii at that anchor's reaction.

2) There's a difference between someone being a spitfire, and someone being batshit crazy throwing lightening kicks at the slightest provocation.

I'm not saying Jay deserved to get attacked or that Solange didn't overact (I think in any context what she did could be considered an overreaction). I just don't see Solange going off like that over a silly comment.

I don't understand. A lot of people in this thread are talking like they know this girl personally and how she would react to things.

In the tabloid's story, "you're one to talk" gets her mad, I'm sure Jay said something much more colorful in the elevator to precipitate the flurry of kicks and punches.

But if people want to believe that Beyonce's team is planting stories to make her sister look bad (like her arguing with Rachel Roy)...

For some reason my mind keeps reading the title as "Solange Knowles Acknowledges Jay Z in an elevator" and it just makes it even more hilarious.

The damage control commences, "Basement Baby [Solange] Was Released From Her Underground Prison To Go Jewelry Shopping With Jay-Z Today." (DListed)

From TMZ:

Our sources connected with the store say Jay and Solange were in Mr. Flawless, where they were looking for women’s jewelry for around 20 minutes. We’re told the pair showed no signs of strife, and looked at gems with Mr. Flawless himself.

They looked, but tried nothing on. They left the store without buying anything. Jay and Solange didn’t talk much inside the store … they pretty much just browsed quietly.

Nothing brings a family together like shared bad publicity...
