Some guy also had a Metal Gear Solid codec ringtone...

...and that, kids, was the first time I sucked a dick for crack
Well, I thought this was rather interesting and very coincidental. I was getting coffee with my gf, when I hear the Codec ringer sound-off. I immediately reach for my phone, except I quickly realized: 1) My phone wasn't vibrating, and 2) The guy sitting behind me was reaching for his phone. He just kinda looked at me, and I looked at him with a "wtf? how can you ring?" face and then said to him:

Me: dude, you have a Metal Gear codec ringtone too? I have the same thing.
Him: Hahaha, holy shit. That's what's up, man!

He gave me a pound, and I told him that I've never once heard anyone else with an MGS ringtone. I thought it was rather unusual, and cool at the same time. The dude's gf and my gf both looked at each other and rolled their eyes. :lol

Fake Edit: That same night, I was at a friend's party and was talking to a guy from school about videogames, he brought up the PS3 and how amazing MGS4 was. It'd be funny if both of them posted on GAF.

I don't believe the gf's part of the story, I don't know why.

You should've said that out loud.

I once saw a guy in best buy with a Pixel Corps Ikaruga T-Shirt.

Turns out he posted on shmups.com. I was the first person to recognize his shirt and start a conversation with him about it, and he's worn it in numerous cities.

You gave a terrorist fist-jab to a complete stranger just because you guys had the same ringtone (a ringtone at least two people I know have as well)?

You gotta be more selective.

He accidentally the whole ring.

Contrary to popular belief, not everyone on GAF is a virgin. You should see the Off-Topic's girlfriend thread, some good wanking material there for you.

It's pretty common, I believe mostly because it's subtle and sounds like a regular ring to non-gamers. Gamers will immediately recognize it.

It's the geek equivalent of:

Guy1: This car is so awesome
Guy2: you think so too?... no wai, how weird
Guy2: we could be like twins zomglol.
Women: *eyeroll*.

(Paraphrased) They approach each other slowly, eyes tense and muscles bulging, as though ready to pound on each other. At the last minute, the CLASP hands, in a salute of manliness and gaming togetherness. (Paraphrased)

My thoughts on this story, horribly paraphrased though, from the Turok launch thread.

What a geek.

Also why did he give you a pound.?

I don't know...plenty of people do that in NY when there's a a mutual understanding or connection of some kind. I've had people shake my hand or give me a pound just because they'd find out we drive the same kind of car.

I heard someone with the MGS codec ringtone before Indy 4...
I was going to play the sound from my phone to throw them off, but I couldn't be stuffed.

MY CURRENT RINGTONE IS RICK ASTLEY :D

Btw: What's with the geek comments? Do you people realize you're posting on a videogame message board during the early day? Come on now. :lol

I thought you meant pound as in the currency, that would have put a bit of a twist on the story.

Also, i'm only joking with the geek thing...

I use the codec also. It's too bad my phone doesn't have an option for ring once.

It's a great ringer because it sounds like a standard ring if you've never heard it, but it's got the context of being from a game.

My ringtone are the latest npd numbers read in a vaguely erotic tone of voice by Matt Cassamasima.

I bet a lot of 360 owners have a Media creates one that says ''it's over 9000!''.

Heh, this also happened to me a while ago (someone else with the MGS codec ringtone). Didn't think much about it, though. My university's full of people with ringtones out of SMB's sound effects or something.

Sorry, I couldn't do any better.

The MGS codec message went off today in our lecture at university. My friend has that ring tone, and went to grab his phone. He then realised that it was the lecturers phone! :lol

MGS codec ring is the best. It's a nice, elegant ringtone that fits in with the crowd, but geeks 'round the world instantly know.

I love it.

Does that mean all of your phone calls go on for five minutes too long and are filled with awkward innuendos?

It's a cool ring tone because, as someone already posted, it sounds like a normal ringer. But to those who know it brings a smile to the face and warms my heart to know there's an MGS fan near by. I was a at a party when I heard it going off once, turns out one of my friends had been a closet MGS fan for years and never mentioned it.

I wish my iphone could use that ringtone.
I converted an MGS2 sound pack that Konami gave out a while back to .m4r for use with the iPhone. If you guys want it, I can post up a link to download it.

Well I'll counter that with a tag quot.....shit. (It's called a Full Stop).

Don't forget random interjections by 3rd parties, nonsensical psychological debate and unexpected conversation closers.

My ring tone is the in between level music from Dream Master (Little Nemo in bed, out of bed, etc.).

I used to do the MGS codec for my ring tone. Then I got smart.

Ive been using the codec sound for when i receive a text message. When my phone powers off, it makes the same noise as the codec when you end a conversation. Missed calls sound like the "!"

Love metal gear sounds <3
