I use it too, Crisis Core version. It works quite well since it starts loud (when I notice it's ringing) then goes ~dundudundundun dudududun~ forever (until I pick up the phone).

I also use the "Get!!" track from No More Heroes for text messages.

I use to use the sonic master system emerald get tune for text messages, it went off as I was out back at work and a managers wife found it funny.

End of story.
 
Heard a guy with a codec ringtone while walking around University of Maryland. I didn't realize it was the codec ring until about 5 minutes later, so I couldn't hive-five him.

I used to have the 24 ringer whenever I got a text-message. Got some laughs during lectures when it went off.

my ringtones are better though. I have Scandal - The Warrior and Europe - The Final Countdown
 
Right now, I have 'Snake Eater' as my ringtone & the codec for my messages. For a while I was using Snake's Victory theme from SSBB for my messages.

Read my post, is the freaking rolling the eyes part that I don't believe because its too freaking cliché. It wasn't a diss at any point. Why are you so paranoid?

Also, why should I care if you have a gf or not, and wtf is up with "wanking material"? You seem to be the one who thinks no gaffer can get laid, not me. I never implied it at any point.

I have that come up when I get a voice message. Never thought to use it as a main ringtone, like the OP I too have the MGS codec as a ringtone.
 
My friend had the Codec sound, but it was for his text alert. We have the same phone, so the sound went off and I assumed it was mine, so we both went over to phones. Needless to say, it was pretty awkward. :lol

I didn't get it.

Anyway, I tried to get the codec ring tone but didn't know what to do to get it on my phone (wav file). That codec sound is great though.

And to the guy that said he has the 56k modem ringtone, that's neat. I hated that sound when I'd log on at night. Loud annoying mess, burned into my brain.
 
I got the Mechwarrior 2 female computer voice saying "Incoming message" whenever I get a SMS. Pretty nerdy, but nobody knows where it's from.
 
My ring is different for every person who calls. I love having it that way, because it's basically caller ID without having to look at the phone. This time around, I pulled sound bites from the Smash Bros Brawl Soundtrack.

My wife - Kid Icarus Theme
My parents - Super Mario Bros Theme
My siblings - Mario 64 Bob-omb world
My Wife's parents - Sonic the Hedgehog theme
My Wife's Siblings - Music from Sonic 2
Work - The Brawl theme from Final Destination
My friends - A wide range, including the Zelda Theme, the MGS Encounter Theme, Rockin KK Slider, Mona Pizza, etc.

EDIT: and my Text Message sound is a Mario 1up noise.
 
My old TDMA Motorola's sounded an awful lot like the MGS codec. Everytime it rang at work someone would say "snake?! SNAAAAAKE?!".

Thank God some stupid kid stole it, otherwise I'd still be using it.
 
I've had the Transformers theme for my ringtone for over 2 years. This morning, after reading this thread, I finally changed it... to the MGS codec. I had never even thought of using that... thanks, GAF!

I used to have the Street of Rage 2 elevator music as my ringtone, until people complained they got startled every time my phone went off.
 
I have this ringtone on my phone as well, but after encountering a dozen or so other people who use it, I decided not to use it anymore and instead have my phone set to MVC2's character select theme.
 
Also, these days liking games is getting further and further from being geeky. A lot of adults grew up on them no matter what. Arcades, nintendo (babysit toys for the parents), and such. Now with DS, pokemon, etc pretty much all kids are growing up playing videogames.

Fake Edit: That same night, I was at a friend's party and was talking to a guy from school about videogames, he brought up the PS3 and how amazing MGS4 was. It'd be funny if both of them posted on GAF.
