So your solution when we encounter people here on gaf sharing their personal story is to question their story and declare it as fake no matter what

Because that should help the community thrive and prosper as a whole

Is that what youre suggesting?
Dude what the hell are you talking about? I am just talking about this one user.

Now answer my question, what makes you so sure he is telling the truth?

Why are you doing this?

The person at hand is probably still emotionally distressed right now

What could he posibly gained by making a fake story?

Are we going to do this/ having this conversation everytime someone made a testimony around here?

Maybe he was just a peeper and his arm wasn't moving back and forth because of a signal.

Get one of those poles to block the glass door from opening and one for any vulnerable windows. Find a gun range to start your training.

When I sleep in foreign places I usually put a table/dresser/piece of furniture wedged against the door (ded fukin srs). Maybe a glass bottle or something that could make some noise if bothered.
I will pray for your butthole and/or throat OP. Stay safe.

lol why are you asking me that like im some kind of monster? i just dont believe him. it sounds like a made up story which ive heard a lot of. the details and the circumstances just dont add up. he didnt hear him come in? the guys was looking outside signaling his other robber friend? he was iIN OP'S MOTHER FUCKING ROOM and couldnt see OP in the bed? his room mate just so happened to be gone. he just moved into a new building but already made friends with other residents and they just so happen to not answer the door? he says "hey whats up man?" to the guy (thats the funniest lie of the whole bullshit story lmao), the guy just calmly walks out... all of that, and oh btw, OP has a low reaction score from a 2012 account as if to say he used to post here a lot but stopped and only recently came back... and youre going to tell me that bat shit bananas insane story isnt a troll

get the fuck outta here lol. i dont believe op for a second.

The person at hand is probably still emotionally distressed right now

yeah because they cant stop laughing at how everyone is buying this and all the attention hes getting, and us two morons fighting about it 3 pages in 🤣 🤣 🤣

buddy can i tell you something? liars make up stories for no reason at all and i couldnt even begin to tell you why they do it. attention? ineternet clout? just to troll people and see what happens? why does a troll do a trroll? couldnt tell ya. but i can tell when someones story just doesnt add up, and OPs story wreaks of lies.
Are we going to do this/ having this conversation everytime someone made a testimony around here?

this is one of the only times ive had this conversation. and you are the only person ive had it with. stop trying to turn the issue at hand into something else, and stop side stepping my question which youve done for three posts now, and answer the fucking question: what about his story makes you believe him?

lmfao, how did i wind up being the one who got trolled here.

And what makes you so sure he is telling the truth? He could be lying just as easily as he is telling the truth and none of us would know the difference.

I have just as much reason to not believe as OP as you do to believe OP

The way he explained the story, the details used (and not used), how everything played out, what he did and didn’t do... just the whole thing smells like bullshit to me. You can just tell when people are making up a story for attention, and something about the way he is laying this story out to us just sounds like a big, huge, stinky lie. I don’t understand why people do stuff like this, but I’ve been around the block with liars and fakers quite a few times, and I’m pretty sure OP is telling stories.

The replies he has had to users and the way he is/isn’t defending himself isn’t helping either. The dude made up a story to get attention or because he is one of those weird pathological liars, I dunno exactly how to explain it but I have a huge hunch that he is lying.

Way to attack me for nothing though, dick.
Lol if I really wanted some attention, I wouldn’t post on gaf, what attention would I gain here? It’s not like the forum has had crazy activity lately, there’s very little attention to be had. Attention seeking would’ve been Reddit, FB, etc which I haven’t posted on, I’m mostly just telling close friends IRL

But what the forum does have is reasonable, realistic people (relative to other sites) which could be helpful in a situation like this. It’s all the truth and yes it’s a very bizarre story I agree with that. And that night was very traumatizing for me and in the moment I had to let the air out a bit so I made a long post.

Anyways I’ve more or less gotten over it and hasn’t really affected day to day life/work, I was really only discombobulated for one day (yesterday). The person did not have me at gunpoint, didn’t appear his intention was to be harmful/violent, it was just a “easy” robbery gone wrong for which I’m grateful looking back. Nothing was even robbed which is amazing! I guess I’m mostly just scared of what could’ve happened instead and will probably be a lot more paranoid moving forward. I’m definitely going to be more careful in checking locks every night. Landlord has been very helpful, contacted police, plenty of users have been helpful here as well which I appreciate. Don’t think I’m going to buy a gun haha because as a user said earlier, I don’t really want any random legal issue. Pet is an option tho

Honestly, and I know this is a echo from other post, if you're going to live in a city, especially a up and coming neighborhood (nice way of calling a shit area acceptable) get a gun and familiarize yourself. But if you want to take baby steps towards that, get a taser and keep it next to your bed.

I grew up and lived in a major hub city. They're cesspools at times. Some dreg will always be looking for a come up on your material goods.

Also, think about self defense classes. Have you ever been in a fight, do you know how to handle yourself in a fight?

Regardless of you feeling "over it" you will subconsciously always carry this with you. If it hit you hard the way you described (it would just about for anyone waking up to a stranger in their apartment or house). Just prep yourself to feel less like a victim and more confident. Of course this could have went terrible, that being him having a gun.

Also, invest in those Ring cameras to hook up along with your doorbell. Depending on how much you're paying for rent, float that shit towards your landlord. Honestly if your landlord isn't thinking about this, they're just a slumlord using that build not as a investment and as their person pay day each month.

Yeah see that's why you guys have a gun problem, your solution to guns is bring more guns because the media has you all convinced every bad guy is armed to the teeth, all i gotta worry about if someone breaks into my house is whether or not my small cock swinging around is gonna get laughed at before i empty his skull over my carpets
Haha, this post is most amusing.

Sounds like this guy overheard your friend saying he was going to be out of town that weekend and didn't realize there would be someone else there.

Whenever I hear these stories it reminds me of the time my roommate stumbled home drunk, stripped naked and passed out in bed. Unfortunately he entered the wrong apartment and the bed he flopped into had the current tennant (a girl) sound asleep. Screaming, cops, etc later and he winds up back at his real apartment to sleep it off. Cant imagine how that would have turned out if she had a gun.

Where do you people grow up in that this happens regularly? Growing up, the first thing the family did was lock up the damn door when leaving or coming in.

Something similar happened to me but (I don't how and why) I reacted in a different way... I hit him in the face with my open hand and reached a fake Katana I got close to my bed, he ran away crashing everywhere. I followed him to the exit door and watched him running in a car where there was another guy waiting.

Not a single drop of fear in me.... until I realized what happened and passed the next month sleeping only in the morning... noone came back for now. I'm honestly more scared now that in the moment.

Dunno if putting different security stickers on a system will deter them. Could argue it might encourage someone if they think they can bypass it. Nice coincidence that it happens while your friend it out. Planned? Not sure what country and area you're in, but just making sure you lock everything and possibly changing the locks would be enough in my book.

Where this happened was at a University in the mountains. No real excuses there though. The girl should have had her apartment door locked. I know I kept mine locked.

I know you were in shock, and it turned out well in the end, but pretending you were asleep might have been the safest choice.

Was his face obscured in any way? He didn't wear a mask or anything?

OPs reaction after taking GAFs advice and some girlscout knocks his door trying to sell cookies the next day.

Cop: May I ask why you felt little Tiffany deserved to die?

OP: Well, first I was gonna pop the postman, and I realized, y'know, he's just doing his job. I mean, how would I feel if somebody come runnin' out their house and bust me in my ass while I'm doing my job? Then I saw the snarling neighbors dog, and I noticed he had a chew toy in his mouth, and I'm realizing, y'know, he's not snarling, he's playing. Y'know, ain't no real threat there. Then I saw little Tiffany. I'm thinking, y'know, eight-year-old white girl, middle of the not-quite-a-ghetto, bunch of diversity, this time of night trying to sell cookies?? She about to start some shit, Sir. She's about eight years old, those cookies are WAY too advanced for her to bake herself, so she must've had someone with her. If you ask me, I'd say she's up to something and I did a service to this fine community by taking her out. And to be honest, I'd appreciate it if you eased up off my back about it.

To all the "LOL America guns haha," crowd, you DO understand that:

A. Most people breaking into homes are desperate and armed, and your safety isn't in my list of necessities when you BREAK INTO MY HOUSE. If it's you or me, it's gonna be you.

B. 'Responding to guns with more guns is a problem,' is bullshit. Yes, I'll just take a bullet in the head because the single digit difference to gun ownership statistics will prove that the world is a safer place. If you're trained and utilize common sense and trigger discipline, and, you know, don't break into people's houses, it's fine.

C. JUST USE A BASEBALL BAT. You know how hard you need to hit someone who's armed with a gun to disable them long enough to reach authorities and get to safety? Where are you going to smack them? In the head? I hate to break it to you, but a head shot with an aluminum bat is gonna kill you just like a bullet will. Probably more of a mess. You aren't taking the pacifist approach here. It's just, what? More honorable to kill someone with a melee weapon? Fuck outta here. You lose your God given rights when you put me in a situation where mine are at risk.

lol @ get a gun... Americans, just get a fucking baseball bat and keep it beside your bed along with one of those torches that can illuminate the moon, that way if it happens again you can blind the cunt then whack him instead of offloading bullets everywhere killing your neighbours and some local cat
There's nothing more American than being scared and using guns and large vehicles as safety blankets.

You don't usually have to fire a gun in order to defend yourself. Just pointing it works most of the time.

I love reading peoples explanation on what gun to use when they have no clue what they are legally allowed to do. Just a few months ago we had a youtuber fire a warning shot up in the air....in his own front yard because a guy was harrasing him to get out and he got jailed. So any of you thinking you can just shoot up the place at any situation, think twice before you hit the slammer for next 10 years. If the "intruder" doesnt have a weapon and you shot him...say goodbye Hollywood. Also the guy is renting the apt....what is this a Matrix movie, where you jsut shoot up the whole place like some cartoon. Fire a shotgun inside a room...wtf are you people talking about lol. "Self defense" in movies is not the same as in real life. You got about ohhhh I donno, 50 different reasons in the law book to tell you why you shouldn't have done that and it will be you who gets fucked.

Arrogant and ignorant. What a combo. I am legally allowed to point a gun at someone who has unlawfully entered my home in all 50 states. Are you familiar with the terms castle doctrine, stand your ground, or duty to retreat? I imagine not.

“almost all national survey estimates indicate that defensive gun uses by victims are at least as common as offensive uses by criminals, with estimates of annual uses ranging from about 500,000 to more than 3 million per year.”

That's not 500,000 to 3 million self-defense shootings, obviously.

"Don't buy a gun, stupid. Buy some lesser weapon that basically guarantees melee combat with a criminal in your home."

I still cant wrap my head around the fact that you yanks are so fucking normalised to owning lethal weapons and that the media has you so fucking terrified of an intruder entering your home with a gun that you MUST defend yourself with another gun, fucking NRA done a helluva job on you lot and your politicians, every other country had one mass shooting too many and said fuck that and got rid of guns, you lot, said fuck that we need to arm the teachers and everyone else lol, I'll never forget my old uncle in Rochester when i visited keeping a fully loaded fucking pump action shotgun upright beside his bed and some magnum looking cunt in his bedside drawer, i mean what was he expecting the fucking Nazis to home invade him!?

A gun wasn’t necessary in this situation so advising OP to buy a gun is just silly.

Imagine if OP did have a gun and used it. How would that have been a better outcome than what happened?

I used to get such a kick out of watching American tv whenever i was over, fox news, local news, the shopping/god channels etc and it blew my mind how anyone watched or believed this shit, it was TV for ADHD generation, hyper coloured, glossy as fuck and so obviously fake it would've been a comedy satire back home

OP can own a gun and choose to not use it. Not having a gun puts him at the mercy of the criminal. It wasn’t necessary in this case, in hindsight, and for all intents and purposes, by the good graces of the criminal.

I highly doubt people in here are recommending OP get a gun to not use it.

Simply making sure his doors were locked would have prevented this. A gun doesn't prevent someone breaking into your home.

And I highly doubt people in here are recommending OP get a gun and shoot on site. But I will for myself - in the US, get a gun as a last line of defense.

And what happens if he forgets to lock his door? Too bad for OP?

What happens if he can't get to his gun? Too bad for OP? Should he keep a second gun under his pillow for easy access? Perhaps one in each room just incase. Buying a gun isn't an alternative to locking your door lol.

How would a gun have helped in this situation?

Some of you anti-gun folks could really use a course on game theory.
