Gotta hand it to Europe though. Lots of great progressive fashions even if i some of it's a little too much for my tastes.

Edit: There's really nothing too wrong with Target's clothes for the price. Same with Old Navy. i just make it a habit to buy off season when the clearances hit and i don't buy all my clothes from there. And there's certain things i typically just don't buy from either store unless i really like them, like button up shirts. i end up ironing them and they still look bad/wrinkled unless i starch them, and that's too much work.

More like.. trashy, generic and overpriced. I'm in NYC.. don't spend much on clothing really and don't buy the best/priciest brands, but I certainly wouldn't be buying the shit at Target, Walmart, or Kmart. That stuff is equally as bad (in its own way) as the Abercrombie stuff. There are many good, affordable in-betweens for someone on a budget to fall back on.

See, this is a hilarious, incredibly misinformed post right here. People don't buy clothes because of status, and they don't pay more for items because of a name tag. They spend more money on a better quality item. I'll put it in context: You spend more money on a certain video card because it's a better quality board. Just because you go to the mall and see overpriced/underdesigned/poor quality clothes doesn't mean that a pair of designer jeans you've never heard of can't be worth $200.

Also, certain brands just have the style that you feel comfortable with so you tend to rely on them more. I would try to minimize giant-sized logo on shirts though but sometimes it is unavoidable :/

I checked out the abercombie site and it's 40 bucks for a regular old shirt, i could buy 3-4 band shirts for that price(2 form a major retailer). 110 for a zip-up sweatshirt i could buy 3 for that price. 108 dollar jeans, there's no way you could tel me that those are worth the money ore look any better than a 20$ wal-mart pair. Honestly, if you live in NYC, your options for everything are instantly better than most of us.

Someone else beat me to it, but it's not always an issue of paying more just to pay more. It's about getting better quality. i'm just gonna toss out Diesel because that's a brand i can remember ATM, but if you can honestly tell me that a $20 pair of American Pride (or whatever Walmart brand is) jeans feels and looks as good as a $100 pair of Diesels, well, i just have no words. Target's as low as i'll go with jeans, and they have to be on clearance and look good for me to pull the trigger. That's rare. Don't get me wrong, i grew up without much money, so stores like Walmart and JC Penney were pretty much essential, But once you have clothes that actually fit your body and feel good while doing so, you don't want any less.

Jokes aside, yes, denims which I bought 4-5 years are still far from looking worn out. But I've toned down in those years so some are a bit loose now I've bought cheaper denims also during certain emergencies and those definitely age much faster.

Welcome to the wonderful world of branding. You don't wear Hollister to be a walking billboard. You wear Hollister because you think it looks nice and you (consciously or subconsciously) associate it with the lifestyle that they promote. Branding has the power to give you a certain sense of security and belonging. Superficial? Sure. But so are a lot of things that make life more interesting. It's not about practicality, it's about image.

I've found that Target shirts are just as durable, if not more, than popular brands, yet people are insistent on paying for a name. Let me rephrase that. I can see how paying 6 times as much for a pair of jeans can be worth it, if they fit and look really really good and are a perfect pair than ya I'm down that, but I highly doubt if they are that much better than regular old pair. i find it ridiculous that someone would pay so much for something that unneseccary.

Personally I prefer to buy clothes that's a bit more expensive, in general they seem to last longer than the cheap stuff I buy now and then. The expensive stuff are usually more comfortable too.

I have the fortune (misfortune?) of being able to wear children's clothes. Mainly just pants, but sometimes shirts/jackets/coats. Jeans are much cheaper, a $79 pair of jeans (regular old Levi's) is $19... insane.

I pretty much wear the clothes I have had since middle school, which is apparently a long time ago. Cross Country/ Track meet shirts, summer camp shirts, etc. I do like Target though, they have nice, tasteful stuff. Unlike Wal-Mart, which seems to only have t-shirts with "witty" sayings printed on them. Like, "I lost my number, can I have yours?" Yes, Target gives me the choice to not wear that, and that is were Target succeeds.
