Sonic Colors - E3 Trailer + screens

Did it? I mean, "Sonic Cycle" has become shorthand for "Sega pulled back the curtain on a shitty feature", but...

  • "Wait, Sonic has a sword? Are they kidding? He doesn't need a sword, his spikes are supposed to be sharp enough to cut things already."
  • "Oh hey, a new Sonic game by the Secret Rings team. Secret Rings was decent."
  • "This looks visually impressive, for a Wii game!"
  • "You can play as Blaze, Knuckles, and Shadow? Arghhh..."

Seems like the Sonic Cycle to me. Or, at least, that's how Black Knight went from my perspective.
Fixed. The sword was the first thing we found out about the game.

I thought the first thing we saw about the game was a render of Sonic with a sword, before we even saw in-game? I think the point was Black Knight didn't make the pretense of "back to his roots" Sonic, then surprise us with the "except for", right off the bat we knew it wasn't going to try to be a standard Sonic game.

Edit: Beaten.

Not if you consider somebody reads a headline or text about the game before seeing their first screenshot! :lol

Except that headline was the scan of Sonic with a sword. It was a Nintendo Power announcement, the first news came literally from the magazine cover of Sonic with a sword.

You know what? One thing Sonic Adventure 1 got right was Sonic's default max running speed. Its a decent speed yet easy to control/make slight adjustments to direction.

Um... The controls were one of the major flaws of Sonic Adventure.

Weird, I remember hearing about Black Knight then seeing some scans on
TMB
a few days later and wondered why it couldn't just be some original character and not Sonic.

Anyways, why the salty attitudes? It seems that Sega finally took a message from the gaming community and made a seemingly cool looking Sonic game. Lots of people loved Unleashed but despised the werehog segments. And that's what this seems to be, a super over the top speed platformer based off of Unleashed's day levels. Hell, this does look better than Sonic 4, right? Is it veiled platform begging? Is it complaining for the sake of complaining?

The world may never know...

Honestly though, if you don't like Sonic games, don't play them.

The controls were pretty tight for SA2 (at least how I remember them). The only problems I had was during the cinematic road curves

Because then they'd have to make it good to get any sort of attention.

There's a core base of about 300,000 Sonic fans who will buy anything Sonic Team shits out. As it happens, that's about how well Black Knight did.

Does that include kids? I have a buddy whose ten year old son is all about Sonic and he says his friends at school are as well. I think it has something to do with that Sonic cartoon that was on television a few years back. Toys, comics, sheets, toilet paper, you name it, he's had it or will get it. Maybe kids find his fresh attitude appealing?

I would argue that it is 90% kids.

I have not heard of many people over the age of, say, 17 who blindly defend bad Sonic games. Most of the defensive comments I get on my Sonic 2006 glitch montage video seem to be from kids around the age of 12-15.

Most people who are old enough to know better... do, to some degree.

ok so 3 wisps powers havent been revealed yet. The phantom purple one and blue block one for Wii, and the purple puffy looking one for DS. The purple wii one reminds me of the cats from chu chu rocket. My guess is that ability has something to do with eating. I wonder what the block wisp does? Tetris Sonic? :)

I just loaded it up and noticed that I watched this great video a few months ago and had a hearty laugh. I can't tell you how many times subsections of the spirals and loops would just "disappear" and send me screaming into the ocean. Or the sky, where I would eventually fall into the ocean.

Great music, though.

Great preview and by the looks of the video, Sonic has just the perfect speed, not a bit too fast. He's slower than he was in Unleashed, but he's fast enough to require quick reflexes. Both, the slower and the faster sections look a whole lot of fun, let#s just hope the final game will also feature a simple world select screen and not a big and boring overworld.

I'm actually hoping for a small/simple overworld. Maybe just a small hub room where you jump into portals or something.

Christ. I'm so glad I did not check this thing out. At this point it looks like those types of bugs are what could bring down Colors, since everything else appears to be solid, but I think the Sonic 06 team is doing Sonic 4 right now, since this is the storybook team and they were doing Secret Rings at the same time.

They've already confirmed there's no hub.

UHHG, can't they just up-rez this and release it as a downloadable game on PSN/XBLA? I can't afford a Wii right now >:(
Yeah, its annoying when there's a good looking game and they aren't bringing it to your platform isn't it :P. As a Wii gamer this generation, I have no clue what that's like or anything.

Is $200 really that big of a deal to spend? Hell the Wii will probably be $150 or something before you know it (well, maybe not), maybe even at a sale, point is, it's pretty cheap compared to other consoles.

Another thought; 4 full-price Wii games = the price of a Wii.

Besides, Sonic's most suited for the Nintendo crowd, Iizuka even said as such.

He even said as well that focusing on a single platform allows to focus more or something.

Staff got shuffled around a bit and Sonic 4 is DIMPS anyway. The big thing is probably that the director of Colors was the lead designer on Secret Rings, and that Iizuka doesn't seem to have had much input on the game.

This can't be the thread you meant to post this. :lol

I thought he was mocking the post above him at first. :lol

Edit: I see what you mean. Or hear it, rather. That's not the normal singer, apparently, which makes sense because he can't even get the lyrics right. "Not looking back! ......Not looking back!" And what was that at 2:07? :lol

At least it's more of a preview of the CG intro. Looks pretty nice from what I can see.

Sega should just leave the TGS music hijinx to the rave masters at Konami.

EDIT- They even have their own dude named Tommy? wtf For shame Sega
EDIT EDIT- Wait he meant Ohtani, I got confused with his drunken mumbling.
