Thats interesting- I thought the speed shift control scheme really helped with the loss of control with Sonic at high speeds. At his lowest speed, it was so satisfying not to have worry about an unwieldily acceleration making slower exploration a headache. This is what made 2D/3D platforming in the Unleashed games so difficult. This new system seems like the best middleground.I've played both and both are great in two different ways. I will say though, Sonic was much harder to pick up and play off the bat. He really is super fast and you do fall off the platforms very, very easily.
I can't wait for both though. Both felt great for different reasons, and I think compliment each other very, very well.
The point is, its been established time after time again, that a game that is exactly like the classics in HD is never going to happen. Lost world is a direct responce for calls for multiple paths, a less serious story and an increased emphasis on platforming over speed. If yoy can be happy with that, you guys might as well stick to your fangames because this is the closest to genesis sonic you are going to get in a 3D game.
;__;
????
The episodic Sonic 4 had some control problems, but was a classic Sonic. You may say that Sonic 4 is a niche and not a proper game, but you cannot say the same from Generations, which plays great, is a 3D game that respects the Sonic heritage in everyway.
Multiple paths has always part of Sonic games, even on Genesis. The classic games are great cause they let you choose between finishing fast (find the best path) or explore fully the worlds. Platforming was always part of the Sonic games as well (how to reach each area).
Serious story? The originals was about saving Sonic animal friends. Robotnick is a great foe, the ones in this game are lazy rip-offs.
This could be done in 3D, as Generations proved.
Pick this game and substitute with any character and it will be the same. It is generic, that is my point.
This looks low budget compared to unleashed and generations.
They probably could have used the shield mechanic and gotten the same effect for some of these. Would have made fans of the older games happy too. Don't see a problem with them as long as they are optional. Colors didn't suffer as a game because of them (except the damn cube.)
I mean color bullshit that turns Sonic into a musical note, for instance. See my other posts, they are plenty of old power-ups that could have been used instead.

Blurry textures vs clean textures? I'll take the clean ones.

ok then.
The problem I have with Lost World is that the controls look extremely touchy in pretty much every video I've seen with somebody playing the game for their first time. In 3D sections, Sonic changes directions practically immediately when players are trying to slow him down for precision platforming - twitchy controls in common with Sonic 2K6, of all things. 2D sections seem okay, although still not perfect.
It might not be as bad as it seems, but I'm reserving judgment on that until the game comes out.
And everything else looks stellar - but botching up controls is kind of a biggie.
ok then.
Where's the fun in that? Why not introduce /new/ things in a /new/ Sonic game?
Yeah, just look at those textures in unleashed.
If they make sense, ok? But turning Sonic into a musical note, a saturn-like asteroid or a flying eagle does not make sense to me.
Ehh..I don't think one looks better than the other (outside of texture resolution and IQ in that Unleashed shot). They are both going for completely different look. Sure both Sonic models look the same but Unleashed/Generations go for a more realistic, earth-tone style whereas Lost World goes for more of a surreal, vibrant style.![]()

The IQ is siginfcantly lower and the textures are alot more simplistic.
I notice when Sonic turns into a air plain he's going through rings like nights into dreams.
Wouldn't it be better for Sonic to transform into nights?
>.> I wish.
He even does the spin dash. :-(

...but there are multiple paths in this game.
You can't tell me these new enemies are lazier than NEGA-EGGMAN. or PIRATE EGGMAN. Can't fucking say that with a straight face.
...the game...is in 3D.
I don't get your argument at all, man.
I can't believe this looks better than Super Mario 3D World. The level design looks more interesting.
I'll be buying this for Wii U. I never played Colors but heard good things.
Eh I dunno when it comes to recent Sonic games I pretty much have to play them before I can judge the controls because they seem cursed to have the absolute worst showings in early videos. Even simple shit like landing on a spring a "tile" away or jumping onto a massive slowly moving platform that I could do in my sleep in the Sonic 4 games becomes a herculean task in the hands of people playing at trade shows, the inevitable leak, or day one on youtube. The problem I have with Lost World is that the controls look extremely touchy in pretty much every video I've seen with somebody playing the game for their first time. Throw in 60fps, and the winner is clear.
You can say this about anything though. "If they make sense, ok? But letting sonic turn into a ball of fire, or putting him in a bubble? Does not make sense to me".
See, sounds silly.
