Sonic Lost World: Color Power Trailer [dated Oct. 18th in EU, Oct. 22nd in NA]

I've played both and both are great in two different ways. I will say though, Sonic was much harder to pick up and play off the bat. He really is super fast and you do fall off the platforms very, very easily.

I can't wait for both though. Both felt great for different reasons, and I think compliment each other very, very well.
Thats interesting- I thought the speed shift control scheme really helped with the loss of control with Sonic at high speeds. At his lowest speed, it was so satisfying not to have worry about an unwieldily acceleration making slower exploration a headache. This is what made 2D/3D platforming in the Unleashed games so difficult. This new system seems like the best middleground.

Actually it does look better.

ok then.

Born in 1981 here.. classic Sega fan.
This game looks amazing to me. It pays homage to so many things and looks very fun at the same time. Mario clone this is not.

The point is, its been established time after time again, that a game that is exactly like the classics in HD is never going to happen. Lost world is a direct responce for calls for multiple paths, a less serious story and an increased emphasis on platforming over speed. If yoy can be happy with that, you guys might as well stick to your fangames because this is the closest to genesis sonic you are going to get in a 3D game.

????

The episodic Sonic 4 had some control problems, but was a classic Sonic. You may say that Sonic 4 is a niche and not a proper game, but you cannot say the same from Generations, which plays great, is a 3D game that respects the Sonic heritage in everyway.

Multiple paths has always part of Sonic games, even on Genesis. The classic games are great cause they let you choose between finishing fast (find the best path) or explore fully the worlds. Platforming was always part of the Sonic games as well (how to reach each area).

Serious story? The originals was about saving Sonic animal friends. Robotnick is a great foe, the ones in this game are lazy rip-offs.

This could be done in 3D, as Generations proved.

Pick this game and substitute with any character and it will be the same. It is generic, that is my point.

They probably could have used the shield mechanic and gotten the same effect for some of these. Would have made fans of the older games happy too. Don't see a problem with them as long as they are optional. Colors didn't suffer as a game because of them (except the damn cube.)

Let me be more clear: the design of the levels in this game is not the problem, even if it mimicks Galaxy, it looks good and pay homage to Xtreme. This is the part of the game that attracts my attention.

My initial problem is with the foes (too generic) but that can be overlooked. Now those powers really look out of place to me.

The funny thing is, im with somewhat. I hate the look of this on someways, it just seems to be a cyncial way of turning sonic into a mario skin, undermining the character entirely.

But im just pointing out thats is a direct responce to the hate the 3D games and Sonic 4 got this generation.

Personally I want a Sonic generations 2 as well.

The problem I have with Lost World is that the controls look extremely touchy in pretty much every video I've seen with somebody playing the game for their first time. In 3D sections, Sonic changes directions practically immediately when players are trying to slow him down for precision platforming - twitchy controls in common with Sonic 2K6, of all things. 2D sections seem okay, although still not perfect.

It might not be as bad as it seems, but I'm reserving judgment on that until the game comes out.

And everything else looks stellar - but botching up controls is kind of a biggie.

Classic Sonic fans are capable of accepting change if it makes sense... I have zero problem with the Color Powers... the laser fits perfectly. Sonic turning into Saturn for the Asteroid Power plays to my heart.
Having simple bubble-like shield powers don't need to be used in every game at all.

I mean color bullshit that turns Sonic into a musical note, for instance. See my other posts, they are plenty of old power-ups that could have been used instead.

Where's the fun in that? Why not introduce /new/ things in a /new/ Sonic game?

...but there are multiple paths in this game.

You can't tell me these new enemies are lazier than NEGA-EGGMAN. or PIRATE EGGMAN. Can't fucking say that with a straight face.

...the game...is in 3D.

I don't get your argument at all, man.

Blurry textures vs clean textures? I'll take the clean ones.

Have you seen this stage on the PC? Looks WAY better than Lost World, but Lost World in it's own looks turborad.

I notice when Sonic turns into a air plain he's going through rings like nights into dreams.

Wouldn't it be better for Sonic to transform into nights?

>.> I wish.

He even does the spin dash. :-(

You're crazy for comparing Sonic Lost World to Sonic 2K6.
That's ban worthy, somebody contact a mod.

Goddamn! This game may be the one that makes me buy a WiiU. A price drop can't come soon enough.

I played a bit of this during E3. Just want remind folks that on top of Color Powers, there's shields (at least the regular and magnetic shields). At least from what I remember...

Ehh..I don't think one looks better than the other (outside of texture resolution and IQ in that Unleashed shot). They are both going for completely different look. Sure both Sonic models look the same but Unleashed/Generations go for a more realistic, earth-tone style whereas Lost World goes for more of a surreal, vibrant style.

If they make sense, ok? But turning Sonic into a musical note, a saturn-like asteroid or a flying eagle does not make sense to me.

Pretty sure after Sonic started making out with humans that SEGA took sense and just threw it out the window.

Along with Sonic driving vehicles, jet skis, walking with humans, break dancing, going super saiyan, etc.

Huh? Sonic turns into an Eagle.
I'm not against Nights having a cameo in a Sonic game... Sonic was in Christmas Nights after all. I don't think Nights should be a power-up though, that's a bit silly.

Oh come now, we all know its going to end up with eggman being the one behind the new bad guys.

If they make sense, ok? But turning Sonic into a musical note, a saturn-like asteroid or a flying eagle does not make sense to me.

You can say this about anything though. "If they make sense, ok? But letting sonic turn into a ball of fire, or putting him in a bubble? Does not make sense to me".

See, sounds silly.

The argument about multiple paths were against the classic ones, not against Lost World. He said that the current players want multiple paths and classic Sonic gaming did not provide it, and I was saying that both have it.
About the enemies: Eggman (or Robotnik) is actually a great foe, that allows multiple personas (everytime he is back with a new veicule or something). While I would accept new foes, those in Lost World do not look original in anyway, as I said, they just look like Kung Fu Panda rip-offs to me.

Im digging the new color powers, especially the eagle and Im so glad the announcer is returning cus hes rad as hell. Really the only thing that had me bothered in this trailer was the line coming of the deadly six dude, that shit was cornball even for a Sonic game.

Eh I dunno when it comes to recent Sonic games I pretty much have to play them before I can judge the controls because they seem cursed to have the absolute worst showings in early videos. Even simple shit like landing on a spring a "tile" away or jumping onto a massive slowly moving platform that I could do in my sleep in the Sonic 4 games becomes a herculean task in the hands of people playing at trade shows, the inevitable leak, or day one on youtube.

"Your fate is to be destroyed. Why can't you just accept that? Lie down and die!"

Sounds a lot like what a lot of people have said about many Sonic games as of late. But in response, this is looking friggin' amazing. Cannot wait.

Unleashed seems pretty vibrant to me.

Game looks phenomenal. I love the artistic cues they're taking here, especially in that Jungle level. Everything looks so much more easy and pleasing to the eye without being so damn convoluted and messy like Generations and Unleashed were.

Wisp Powers also look great. Drill looks so much more improved and Eagle looks pretty damn awesome. Rhythm seems like it could be pretty fun. I've always been an advocate for continuing the evolution of Wisp Powers since like Mario they offer some fun and optional incentives despite some being scripted as all hell.

To those comparing the graphics to Generations and Unleashed:

Lost World is 60fps
Generations and Unleashed are sub-30fps on consoles

I actually like the new simpler and stylized art style more than in Generations. Far less busy.
