No. NO! After I assembled all the old games. Oh well will buy, if it's only one cartridge with all of them.
6$ a game it seems.

Yessss.. best Sonic game. This is amazing news, assuming they bring it over.

Super Hang-on needs to come too.

Were the other Sega 3D Classics announced for US? Super Hang On and Space Harrier, right?

EDIT: Apparently not.

This is pretty cool, but I hope they get to Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Hydrocity Act 1 in particular did the parallax backgrounds so well, I'd love to see it in 3D.

Still, glad to hear SOMEONE remembers that this kind of thing is possible.

Well, at least when this game doesn't get released outside of Japan, it may finally fucking prompt some big name sites to ask SEGA why they haven't released a single Game Gear VC game or 3D remake in America or Europe in well over a year.

This version also seems to have a spin dash option too, which is amazing.

Now if only Sega would actually release these outside of Japan...

At first I thought it would be like a NSMB-style remake of the original 2D Sonic... then I realised it was the original 2D game... in THREE DEEEEEE

My eyes are ready! Day One! etc.

It's interesting that they've chosen to release this game in particular. These are not quick and cheap ports. This series of rereleases is getting some serious time spent on it, with cool aspect ration things, authentic screen styles, rotating cabinet displays etc.

I'd also presume that they'd have to dig into the actual code of the game somewhat in order to achieve the 3D effect.

It's interesting because SEGA announced last month that they were updating Sonic 1 and 2 on iOS to the Retro Taxman engine, the brilliant one used on the Sonic CD rereleases. The updates will allow the games to run in widescreen, and at better performance than regular emulation.

This however doesn't look like it's using the Retro engine at all (otherwise I'd assume they'd at least incorporate an additional widescreen mode).

So you have one team in Japan digging into original Source code and updating it for this, and one team in America properly remaking the game in a new engine that's great for porting to other platforms. Weird SEGA as usual.

If they're already reworking it into 3D for Japan, what are the costs to bring it to North America? Translation costs (but aren't those already done for previously NA-released games)? Anything else?

I honestly do not understand why these e-shop type games, which have already been translated and converted, are not brought over to other world areas. It's basically nothing but upside. Unless I'm missing something major here. Licensing costs maybe?
