I for one am shocked to say that it looks good IMO. Now I actually WANT to fucking buy this game.

Fuck the Sonic cycle, just fuck it.

Also, I have said it countless times, but.....

THE MUSIC TO THE APOTOS STAGE KICKS SOOOOOOOO MUCH ASS!

Apparently, Windmill Isle, is act 2!

Does this mean 2 day acts per zone? I doubt the night one would be first for the first area...

Damn Luigi went downhill, got fat and is now serving behind a counter. Harsh times.

Game looks good and i have never been a sonic fan. Very interested in it now.

Wow, soooooo fucking fast. And he only got a C rank. The flying chihuahua thing didn't bother me, seemed like a funny character.

HOLY SHIT

EDIT: I've watched the gameplay one, not the CG intro. The camera in the hub world looked a little twitchy, but it did move quickly so that's an improvement over Sonic '06. Gameplay wise it looks to be combining some of the more fun elements from past Sonic games and I think the speed it something that I'll enjoy.

Technically though, that game is beautiful. If those load times weren't edited then this could be one of the best engines going, especially considering the size of the level and the amount of geometry for the backgrounds. I'm optimistic, but I still need a demo before I'll buy.

Now I wish they'd stuck with the "Sonic World Adventure" name. Every time the unleashed logo comes up, it just looks out of place.

Call me a dummy but I am making my own insert for this game. I don't know whether I will call it World Adventure or Adventure 3 though...

I am not gonna lie. At first I was like meh, now I cannot wait to play it.

That and the Holaska footage sealed the fucking deal for me.

Oh fuck Experience Points? So one can't collect S-rankings form the get-go but has instead to play all levels to get a high level in order to be fast enough to get an S-rank? Please, don't get on my nerves, Sonic Unleashed :/.

I love that the human characters are not realistic anymore like they were in Sonic 2006. Sonic doesn't look quite so out of place when the humans are cartoon like as well. And yes, the music for this game is beautiful. Best in the series for a long time (and even 2006 had a good soundtrack). Sod it, I have it pre-ordered now because I managed to get it for just under £30. It'll be worth it for me if it's at least as good as Sonic Adventure 2 was.

I appreciate the blatant Star Wars homage. :lol

The hub world looks really nice, looks much better graphically than Sonic 2006 and it does so in a consistent way without awkward big frame-rate drops and unjustifiably long loading-times completely out of nowhere.

I noticed the Star Wars intro too.

MY GOD! That was the best Sonic CG scene I have ever seen! I love when Eggman says "Time to take off!" and shoots out of his wrecked robot into his little car that he used to escape with in the early days.

Looks like no loading when talking to citizens.

I believe the grade is based on how you perfect your speed run, not on how much you've upgraded. (Although I may be wrong.) It gives you a good reason to go back and perfect your run.

At least Chip is starting to come off a little more cute than annoying. I don't think you'll see him outside of this game. Chip has amnesia, and I believe he is the yin to Gia's yang. If Gia is the dark spirit of the earth, then maybe Chip is the light side. That's my theory anyway.

BTW, I hear he names himself after his favorite ice-cream, chocolate chip. (Wouldn't chocolate kill a dog? I guess maybe not a flying chihuahua thing.)

I still can't get over how weird Sonic walks and the way he speeds up from standing still to walking. This has always bothered me to no end, ever since the first Sonic Adventure. There's something unnatural and floaty about it that gets on my nerves.

-That intro was way too epic for its own good :lol
-kinda reminded me of SMG's "epicness
-fuck Chip
-the overworld seems to have some stuff to do in it. I'm not sure if this is a postive or negative though
-controls seem kinda weird/loose/bad in the overworld.
-FUCK CHIP
-the levels didn't seem to have much branching paths or anything. Less platforming and more racing.
-It's become pretty obvious this isn't a "return to form" but it does have the potential to be good though. Maybe. It all depends on how fun the speed and werehog stages are.
-No seriously, Fuck Chip
-I'm curious on how Sonic's shitty friends will play into this. Hopefully it doesn't involve too much more than Tails and Knuckles :/

So it seems to be a mostly positive impression from these videos. As I said it all depends on how fun the speed and werehog sections are. But obviously this isn't a "return to form" but more of a spin-off like thing. Reminds me of the new Banjo game actually. And honestly at this point I'll take good but different over horrible and different :/

Opening cinematic was crazy awesome until the werehog.

Game could have been totally positive if only they hadn't put the werehog in. CGI is as ever incredibly well done, but its just astounding that Sega themselves knew to keep the werehog gameplay hidden as they knew how people would react yet still pushed it through.

Even the designer seems to umm and ahh about it when confronted about it mid "GOING BACK TO SONIC'S ROOTS!!" spiel.

My current concerns:
- werehog shit dragging the entire game down.
- hub-world shit interferring with everything
- later levels not anywhere near as polished as the first few, aka The SonicTeam Development Process.

Ugh, sonic does work in cg but cripes 6 minutes of that opening is over kill. Could have funded a whole 2D game. :lol SE and Sega may as well team up at this point for Final Fantasy 14. Sonic and moogles take on evil. I hope the gameplay is actually there for a change(I'm not feeling the werewolf thing but I am sure teenagers will love it) but there is something wrong if you ask me if it takes more then 80 secs to get into a sonic game.

FF7 :lol story rip off?

...how long has it been since you've played Final Fantasy 7?

Because, uh, there's... extremely little here in relation to that game's storyline.

On an unrelated note, I'm still super bummed out over finding out you only lose 25 rings when you take damage and you can't pick dropped rings back up. Might as well not even be a Sonic game anymore to me. :\

That actually looks fun. I hope the PS3 version turns out okay. Giant Bomb already mentioned the PS3 version was inferior at TGS.

That may be so, but it looked excellent in videos. It should still be solid.

I'll probably go with the 360 version just to be safe, though.

rofl. The Star Wars-style intro is hilarious.

Still, I'm not convinced. There's clearly minor camera/control issues in the hub and maybe in the gameplay segments too.

The control issues in Sonic 2006 were not apparent in gameplay clips. I watched the entire GameTrailers review and was confused because it looked fine to me. It was only when I played the demo that I realized they were right and that the controls were terrible.

So essentially, due to the abysmal track record of this series, unless this game has a demo I'm not buying it.

WTF at the production values of the opening :lol Did they outsource to Pixar or something?
They've had a pretty awesome CGI team for a while now. The Sonic 2006 intro was even better.

damn.
i really loved old sonic games and sonic adventure 1 for diff reasons, and this one looks promising

I'd really rather they just downgrade the PS3 version instead of releasing it with suttery framerates (which GB said was the main issue).

Ever since I played it at TGS, I've been speaking highly of this game. It really isn't bad. I had a lot of fun with it and while it won't be everyone's cup of tea, what I played could not be called a bad game by anybody who isn't being deliberately mean. It looks gorgeous, both the speed and the werehog sections are fun, and I think it really could be the fabled "return to form" that has never happened.

From what I got to play, they fixed everything wrong with Sonic 06's gameplay.

As somebody who forced himself to play through Sonic 2006 for the entire game, I can say...

Walking around in the hub world in Sonic Unleashed does appear to replicate the same super-sensitive controls Sonic 2006 had, just by the way it looks. I actually noticed the control problems in Sonic 2006 videos, too - it's pretty obvious when players are making 45 degree angle turns.

Even when walking slow in the Hub World here in Unleashed, the player keeps turning too sharp and having to re-adjust their angle - it makes it look like they "snake" their way down the street - turning so sharply they're aiming at a wall, and when they turn to get away from one wall, they turn directly in to another one.

As for a demo, apparently Sega confirmed one was planned to appear, but they want to make sure the demo is "absolutely perfect" before putting it out there, to make sure that it does not represent the game in a negative light.

To me the level just seems to be run fast and do QTE's, I hate how sega gave sonic the ability to just run fast into enemies to defeat them, they could have made you roll or something.

I love sonic but this game, apart from it's visuals disappoints me.

a "return to form" suggests that the game will be like the older sonics. While the game has the potential to be good, calling it a return to form is just a bad idea.
