Sonic Unleashed First Cutscene & Hub World Revealed!

I'm still worried that the werehog will suck ass
Yea that is my problem too, I also have a question, when in 2d mode, can we stop and move back like how we did in the Genesis versions?

Oh after watching the video, I thought people said it was going to be a QTE game and that we couldn't go back.

People thought wrong. Alot of people have a huge grudge against Sonic for his past game screwups. Also the trailers seemed to make it look like things were on rails I guess.

If werehog play is decent, then this will be a great step back towards the spotlight.

Yes. As far back as possible anyway.

Wow. I was optimistic before, but Savannah Citadel (Mazuri) looks awesome.

Even though he did have to repeat that simple timed attack numerous times...it didnt really look clumsy. Just that he has bad timing :lol

Also im glad that the 3d speeds look a little more manageable. Quick step and drift really will come in handy.

Commercial is lame though:

3D looks manageable. 2D looks like a mess x.x

Meh. The game will be $20 in months if the other Sonic games are any indication. Considering I'm not exactly big on supporting Sega's current efforts anyway, I think I'll just wait it out.

Whats so messy about the 2d sections?

Only questionable part I saw was that flamethrower section, and that could easily be passed with decent timing. Unless you mean how the multiple paths kinda criss cross each other.

Oh, so I guess the only problem is the game is the werehog? I also heard that sonic goes too fast.

Yeah if you spam boost without letting up on it like in that Ruliweb video.

Looking at all the videos, his normal running top speed seems manageable, and boost is nice for straightaways/ramps to gain air.

Thanks for answering, I'll try the game out when the demo releases.

Yeah im not 100% committed to a purchase yet. It looks cool, but theres still the werehog mechanic to worry about. I hope the demo has one stage for both, and with a decent amount of abilities already.

:lol It's probably just talking to people and doing stuff to get extra points for skills and stuff.
I don't think thats a safe assumption to make considering the series' history

Do we know when a demo might be released?
We hope sometime soon. Especially since commercials have aired already.

What else could it be? Most of that sounds optional anyway.

iirc the demo for Sonic 06 has some of the basic abilities (like the light dash) unlocked already, so Unleashed should be the same way.

I bet it'll just be a daytime level though

Don't knock it, I'm looking forward to that issue. Just wondering which one of em' will make a drop the soap joke first. :lol
I wonder how bad Super Scourge kicked Sonic's ass...

says you can pick up sun and moon coins which allow you to "unlock levels you wouldn't be able to play otherwise"

Listening to that guy talk, all I could think about was the Infinity Ward guy and his "Don't interview this guy, he doesn't know what he's talking about, he didn't even work on the game".

He really came off with that "I memorized a fact sheet Sega gave me and played through this level once or twice" vibe.

Yea, the fact that he couldn't get by that fire-blasting badnik proved that. But, it also proves this isn't a hold right speedfest. There are areas where you have to slow down.

Anytime you get someone that didn't help develop the game you're just going to get a bunch of PR points.

So apparently, Sega of Japan said they would be delaying the JP copy of Unleashed to "improve on the content and the quality of the game".

Today, they posted an update to that saying there would be "no difference in quality" between the JP and USA/UK versions of the game, which will not be delayed.

Does this smell fishy to anybody? "We're delaying the game for three months to make it better! But it's not going to be any different".

Oh wonderful. I hope Sega of America responds with something substantive, but I really am expecting little.

And to think, they're so close to fooling me with this Sonic too!

They delayed '06 over there and it didn't make a difference.

Maybe they're delaying it so they can have the downloadable content on the disk as well. I don't think the online market is as hot over there as it is over here.

And since we're showing comic images.......

Buy Sonic Unleashed or Rosey will find you and kill you.:D

It seems I can’t go anywhere on the internet at the moment without people huddled around forum topics about Japan’s decision to delay their release over “quality” because that meant (according to everyone and their dog) that we in the West “would get a poorer version of the game” apparently and a big game of chinese whispers, rumours and speculation started as only the Sonic community can.

Now, as it seems me telling people that the quality won’t be any different falls only on deaf ears for the majority, *sighs sadly* we thought someone else might have better success(!) So after communicating your concerns to the Brand and PR departments dealing with Unleashed, we’ve got the following statement from SOJ which has already been doing the rounds and should also be appearing on the Sonic World Adventure website too as I understand…

To Sonic fans living outside Japan
===============================

In our previous November 7 post to this home page, we informed you that the release date of Sonic World Adventure in Japan on PS3 and 360 will be delayed. Based on that announcement, some fans living overseas have become concerned that there will be a difference in quality between the version of the game released in Japan and the version released outside of Japan.

This is not the case and we apologize for this misunderstanding.

The difference in the international release dates is based on the sales strategy and the manufacturing schedule. There will be no quality difference between the North American/European/Asia release and the Japanese version. Please be assured we are doing our best to deliver a top quality experience to people all over the globe.

We still cannot announce the release date in Japan, but we should be able to do so shortly. Our apologies to Sonic fans in Japan, who we must ask to wait a while longer.”

Sonic Team is proud to present you Sonic Unleashed (Sonic World Adventure). You will be able to experience the best Sonic ever in no time!

So there we go, I certainly hope that goes someway to allaying your fears, Sonic Team is working VERY hard - and has been for months - in order to up the amazingness-quota. More good news is that I’ve finally got some code to demo! So I’ll be contacting people soon to set up a Community Day - senior peeps and contacts you have been warned! ;)

I like how they plan on releasing the Wii version in Japan under the radar with no advertising, they are probably ashamed they had to make it for SEGA West.

The 360 version is being delayed to be released with the PS3 version, they must have something big planned.

Yes, I'm sure they're very ashamed for making a version of their Sonic game for one of the highest selling consoles out there right now. So very, totally, completely ashamed that they will be undoubtedly raking in truckloads of dough from all the kids who own the system.

I'm sure they were ashamed when Sonic games sold the most on Gamecube, too.

Alright, I'll use my nerd powers, but I'll stipulate that there was a period of the comic I really didn't give an ass about, I've gotten back into it because I was acquainted with the new writer they've got (Ian Flynn), and he knows what fans want out of a Sonic comic. Working within the convoluted mess that Penders and others left him, he's doing his damnedest to clean it up.

A long, long time ago, they introduced an "evil universe" of Sonic, where bad guys are good and good guys are bad, etc. They dabbled with bringing them back against the main cast one or two times, and there's been a lot of plot in more recent times about the Evil Sonic pretending to be Sonic while the latter was warped off-planet, the evil versions becoming more unique past "biker jacket and scowl", bla bla bla. So Sonic, Amy, and a few others went to Evil Sonic's dimension while he's in theirs, trying to get some sort of advantage, and they go to track down that dimension's Amy, who goes by Rosy. (As in Rosy the Rascal, Amy's original nickname.) Evil Amy hunts the Evil Sonic like the normal one does, except to bash his skull in, and he's always ignored and shunned her attacks. So she used a magical item like the normal Amy did (in the comic's brilliant "How do we explain Amy's new look and age" move around Sonic Adventure some years ago), and she mentions what happened when she did at the top of that page.

Yeah, I know. But like I said, Ian knows his stuff, and he does make the comic entertaining enough. I followed the comic since the start when I was a kid, so it's nice to see it's in good hands now.

Is there anywhere I can read the US Sonic comics online? I used to read the UK comic all the time as a kid, but grew out of it around the time the Saturn flopped. I'd quite like to catch up to my childhood :-p
