Microsoft owns a big chunk of Immersion. They'll be taking a big chunk of Sony's money too.

Microsoft sold their immersion shares a while ago.

No they don't. They sold it a while ago after, of course, signing agreements that would allow them to include rumble without paying the regular price.

Owned. That arrangement ended some time ago.

The most important detail is that GT HD is gonna get back it's Driving Force Pro feedback.. yeaaahhh!

RUH ROH Micorosoft, PS3 regained the ability to fully support the best TFF wheel on the market in time for GT5. Hopefully Forza 2 will too and not just that playschool POS MS wheel.
You know its not gonna happen. PS3, here I come when GT5 is out!

So now everyone has to buy new controllers?

fun!
Nintendo's going to do the same thing with their wiimotes. I've been saying it before the Wii launch that Nintendo will introduce a "new" rechargeable battery pack wiimote. I bet they'll introduce it in different colors too. Based on their history, black would be first.

Better late than never. If the plans are for the new Sixaxis, I hope they release Siaxaxis Shock in time for MGS4, and that it's not much heavier than the controller we have now. I really appreciate how light it is, never seen a wireless controller before, that wasn't overweight.

I also really hope that the new controller would have that "next gen" rumble Immersion was demonstrating at one point, that has much better range of tactile feedback.

Were you not into games during the Playstation era?

we didnt have 5000000 blogs then. These days, I fully expect class action suit against Sony, with every mag in the world (including Trinidad & Tobago) running the story how Sony screwed early adaptors and now isnt willing to give them their free rumble controller, which was their right from the moment they were born.

What will you say when Microsoft starts adding motion controls to games, and you need a new controller for you to fully appreciate it?

And yeah.... class action lawsuit, sure :lol

You must have missed the Xbox Controler S changeover and pretty much every Nintendo handheld evermade. Imagine buying a piece of shit DS phat right before the DS lite was announced!

No one got free dualshocks, DFPs, n64 rumble packs or saturn analog controllers. What makes you so damn special?

apsolutly nothing, i dont expect it, I am saying this is what will happen.

Just last week, all the press went mad over Sony taking out emotion chip out of PS3, without knowing any details... And NOBODY reported on how PS3 games will be $20 cheaper in UK than 360 games.

I just expect the trend to continue.

Everyone is on Sony's case, all the time...

Still don't care except in as much as it shuts up the trolls and whiners.

So are you insinuating that all unhappy about the situation were just winers and trolls?

One of the few news items that truly deserves the term: MEGATON

PAL SIXAXIS controllers to come with RUMBLE confirmed.

LoL, it's good news all around. Will previous game be "patched" to enable rumble? I would really like rumble to be in Resistance :)

so for games that have already been released, will devs be able to release a patch and enable rumble on their games?

I'm not insinuating *all* were-- by boy have there been a lot of whiners and trolls on the subject.

Attempt to turn my statement into an absolute: fails.

If they make a new controller with tilt and Rumble, amazing. RUMBLE DOES MATTER, yall are nuts if yall think otherwise. i hope Kojima adds it in his game to persuade sony to hurry up with the controller

Quite happy but it will make me wait to buy a second controller for my ps3, don't like rumble in RPG's but racing games desperately needs it

This doesn't necessarily mean they're going to be including rumble in newer versions of the gamepad, does it?? It may be jumping the gun to assume they'll be adding it to the sixaxis. Maybe just to FF wheels or maybe it'll be some sort of clip-on vibration attachment.

Hmmm, the lack of rumble on the six axis wasn't a huge bother to me, but I guess it would be nice to have rumble again once Silent Hill 5 and MGS4 to comes out. They were the only games which used rumble great IMO during the PSone/PS2 era.

They better put it in my PAL PS3 on launch then, i pre ordered the thing a year ago, ps2 hardware gets removed, if rumble is added in i could live with that. So sony, you know what to do. give the PAL people a break for once! :P

Well some good news.

That said why couldn't they have sorted this out BEFORE the PS3 was released?
Because after seeing Sony ready to go ahead without rumble Immersion probably scaled back their absurd demands?

Well, I'm happy about this. Rumble ain't that great (about as gimmicky as motion controls), but features are features and having one is always preferable.

finally sony bit the bullet and paid up. perhaps this prompted the early removal of the EE to cover the settlement? eitherway good news for all.

I predict we'll see both Sony and Microsoft releasing controllers with advanced motion sensors and next-gen force feedback by Christmas '08.
Make it so.

Erm...by all logic, I'd say the party that was bending over was Sony, and the lubeless one was Immersion.

I really doubt that since Sony had the Splitfish rumble on the table and probably used it against Immersion to get better terms out of their deal. Immersion had no leverage.

op says sony are paying what the court previously ordered them too, not any amount immersion demanded. this doesn't sound like an out of court deal at all. the winners are immersion and consumers.

It would be strange for a settlement to be reached and not have it result in the technology being used in some widespread device. I don't now what the exact number is of people who buy racing wheels, but news like this makes it sound like they would put the feature in the standard controller at some point. I wonder if this means with every system having an HD they will patch games already released to include rumble. If they were going to resign themselves to giving in to Immersion they should have just done this last summer and skip the lame motion sensing feature. The impact on the games won't be so bad if a small download makes them compatible, but it just looks stupid.

I would like to know the dividing line on that subject. I doubt I ever will.
