Sony Confirms PS5 Spider-Man Miles Morales has 4K/60FPS Performance Mode

Options are awesome. That's the way it should be.

Even just two options for us console peons is good assuming one is a 60 fps.

Just comes to show how much better xsx is with 4k60 being the minimum baseline with no compromise let alone without buzz words like performance mode.
Ps5 isnt even rdna2 according to sony developer.

Gaf told me .
You better put '/s' at the end or this won't go well.

So more 4k 60fps games are being announced........Can't say I'm surprised....Just what I expected tbh.....If open world games are hitting 4k 60fps, then I think most SP non-openworld games should aim for that as well...

This news makes me so happy.

If I could ask for more it would be an option for the user to chose the FPS and Image-Quality level and the game tells you the resolution and lowered RT and effects you'll get, eg:
  • 30fps/IQ = 4K (everything maxed out)
  • 60fps/IQ = 1440~1800p (CBR, TAAU, DLSS) (all effects and RT is kept at equal or a bit lower than IQ mode)
  • 60fps/Performance = 4K (RT-reflections and other features may be lowered or turned off)
  • 120fps/IQ = 1080p (all effects and RT is kept at equal or a bit lower than IQ mode)
  • 120fps/Performance = 1080~1440p (RT-reflections and other features may be lowered or turned off)

Options are great. Love it.

But reading around the web it sounds like 2 modes. A 4K mode and a 60fps mode.

Notice the spaces? They didn't write 4K/60fps

"optional 4K / 60fps Performance Mode" to imply those are separate modes. A clarification would be great. Awesome either way.
To talk about two modes they would have to name the other one, like 'optional 4k Fidelity / 60fps Performance modes, unless it's just bad wording.

Feeling smug are we :messenger_winking: FYI I have a maxed out PC, yet can't play the Playstations exclusives which makes up a big part of the games I like to play. How are my PC going to solve that, it can't. So the fact we get options on PS5 is great.

I mean either way they didn't name the other one.

So lets just say they really did mean a single 4K/60fps mode. So what's the other mode then?

I think its 4k (quality) or 60fps (performance).
This is what I want.
4k/30 max fidelity
1440p/60 for performance mode use Temporal Injection or Checkerboard rendering to get up to 4k, with headroom to double the framerate without sacrificing fidelity that much.
It would be hard to tell the difference.

I think they need to clarify it abit more better then people us customers would understand better!. To me sounds like 4k 60fps as standard and if u want say better effects raytracing its then maybe 1800p with it all on. But yes they need to say whats performace and whats graphicsl

I just cant believe next gen we are still at optional for this stuff.

Edit-Alright calm down everyone. I'm GLAD its an option, its a great feature. I just figured at this point in development they would have learned to optimize or do something to get us 60fps more often. Leave me alone!
I agree with you. Often times these "performance modes" seem like afterthoughts. That 60 FPS is there sometimes but not steady enough.

No thank you.

I dislike this Spider man... i prefer the original.

Shame of you Sony.
Get out of there with those comments, we are not talking about the characters in the game in this thread, it's about performance if you didn't read the topic.

BTW it's "on you" not "of you"

turning off ray tracing should get them 15-20 fps. i dont see what else they will have to downgrade to get 4k 60 fps working for a next gen game.

maybe its checkerboard 4k?
4K 60fps mode without RT is the most likely scenario.

To my understanding HW RT gives developers a certain amount of rays they can use for free, so theoretically RT shouldn't affect performance that much. For example metro exodus has really small performance penalty (just 3-5fps worse) with RT if you will only ballance RT budget correctly (resolution change the amout of shooting rays). Developers on PS5 optimize their rays budget to something like 1080p 30fps (upscaled to 4K), so in order to reach 60fps they would need to shoot 2x as many rays. They will most likely turn off RT in 60fps performance mode.

There is one game on PS5 that will run at 4K 60fps with RT, but gran turismo 7 will use even lower resolution RT reconstructed to 1080p and then upscaled to 4K.

so guessing this mode would be with ray tracing off? hope more games have performance modes or options to turn off RT.

Just you wait, you'll soon hear how Kat is so much better character than Peter Parker in this game.

If peter parker was in the game.... at least partial segments of the game, i could buy it .

I just want 60fps with all the bells and whistles at what ever resolution they can manage.

If theres a 60fps mode on very next gen man, ill be a happy human being

No RT is free. RT hardware just drawing rays is only half the battle. You still need a lot of work from the shaders. Some RT elements can be "cheap" but it still takes the shaders working and eats into render budget

4k 30fps will be the standard mode as we saw with the trailer. The performance mode will be 4k 60fps with some effects reduced (ray tracing). Or maybe a dynamic or reconstructed 4k 60fps.

I agree with this. I wouldn't mind 1080p/1440p at 60fps with all the bells and whistles turned on (Ray-Tracing etc...).

Like I said earlier I love that we're getting these options. I just wished they could've done 60fps without affecting the graphical features. 1080p/1440p @ 60fps with all the graphical features and 4K/30fps with all the graphical features would have been awesome!

It would be pretty awesome if the "low-end" performance mode was 4K/60 as a mostly standard idea. That's not a bad starting point.

Awesome news.
I will play this in 60fps no matter what. Fuck raytracing I don't need it that much anyway.
A sacrifice I'm willing to make for that 60.
And at 4K? Wow
