Sony ditches main booth at E3 2013? [Up: Nope]

Where everyone is placed is oddly where everyone was placed last year. You sure you're not looking at the 2012 interactive map? E3expo.com doesn't have a map link up yet. They are still finalizing it. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo are always in the same hall though. And ususaly Sony is in between Nintendo and Microsoft most years. I don't see this year being any different.

The interactive map is linked in the OP, and it's clearly for E3 2013.

What I am saying is that the e3expo.com site doesn't have a link to that. Which tells me they are still tweaking and finalizing everything. If Sony was listed at that booth a few weeks ago then you can rest assured knowing that Sony will be at that section. I would be more worried if someone else was listed for that section instead of it being "empty" an ready to be reserved by someone else.

I've heard from a couple smaller devs/indies that their games will be 'at the Sony booth', so I presume this is just a mix-up.

Sony said they will wait for Microsoft move first.

Interesting. Not sure what to think about this. Would it be a good idea for Sony to have their own venue? What impact, if any, would seeing everyone else represented around E3 except Sony have on the perception of PS4?

Maybe they'll be holding the conference in OFMR4144? Looks big enough I guess. Otherwise, I'm going with this until we hear an official announcement.
The press conferences are held at separate venues. OFMR4144 is a big closed off booth reserved for appointments.

Might depend on how many games they have to show. I mean Cerny made it seem like the launch line up could be fairly impressive, so is it possible that their normal set up just wasent large enough?
They should have enough room in their normal setup.

Vita titles and PS3 third party titles on the top half.

Infamous, Killzone, Drive Club, TLoU, Beyond, and another PS4 title in the center of the bottom half of 4522. Third party & PSN PS4 launch window titles in the kiosks that surround the bottom half of the booth.

I just viewed the official E3 2013 floor plan and most of the West Hall seems to have been completely redesigned - according to the plan, both Microsoft and Sony have no booths with the exception of Sony Online Entertainment, and Nintendo have apparently downsized. The booths previously occupied by Microsoft and Sony are now listed as available for reservation.

Surely this has to be some weird mistake.

Yeah, I looked up West Hall today and it has indeed been redesigned:

The exhibitor list states that Microsoft has booth 4100 and OFMR4030. It seems that these booths are now one. Though the interactive plans just states "This booth is available for reservation" if you hover over this booth. Same goes for 4522, 4144 and 4044. I think that's Sony territory, even though the exhibitor list hasn't been updated yet. Nintendo still has 4822 and OFMR5244 according to the exhibitor list though there's no designation for 5244 in the interactive map.

Mh, just thought about something: could Nintendo be live-streaming their E3 direct there? That'd be pretty ass-backwards, but you never know with them.

FYI:

4144 and 4522 are occupied by Sony Computer Entertainment America
also, 4822 and 5244 are occupied by Nintendo of America

Just checked a few minutes ago.

I'll be attending E3 for the first time this year. One thing I don't understand is, as an industry attendee, am I allowed in those big press conferences or just the show floor?

The big press conferences are invite only and they're held outside of the L.A. Convention Center. You only have access to the show floor.

So they have Microsoft as well as Sony and Nintendo jammed into the West Hall this year?

Seems like an odd choice - you would think everyone would want a little more elbow room this year. But it works out great for us - makes direct comparisons easier.

Not holding an E3 press conference =/= present at E3 with exhibits.
Yeah, sure. 4822 is a huge ass hall dedicated to conferences though as far as I know, there should be enough room in the other hall they reserved for their Wii U and 3DS booths. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I was thinking it would be pre-recorded, not livestreamed.
Of course. I meant live-streamed as in shown contemporarily with the guys who are watching at home. Bad choice of words here, sorry.

Directs are always pre-recorded. They're still going to be at E3 and that is their booth. That is also where they are going to present the games to the press and let them try it out before E3. This is just my understanding of things.

The main conference's aren't held at the convention center, thet are held of site. the blocks you are looking at, 4822 for example, is booths reserved by the company to display games.

Not always the case. E3 press conference last year was open to Playstation community members that are 21 and over. It may as well have been open to the public because apparently they didn't reject anyone that waited in line. They did ask for your PSN ID but there was no authentication process.

Good to know. Our outlet has been trying to get a hold of someone from Sony PR to try and see if we can get into the press conference this year but all we got is an email linking us to the live stream. Sure... let's just go back to our rooms after seeing Microsoft, EA, and Ubisoft in person and report on Sony's live stream :P

Oh. That clears things up, then, thank you. I was honestly under the impression that those big halls were dedicated to the big presentations.

Thanks for the information, honestly I don't know who to ask regarding those type of details. I do wish the organizers would post more details about that on e3expo.com .

In any case, watching those live would be a nice bonus to going this year :)

Saw some really happy community members last year, they all got a pass to E3 and 1 year subs of PS+ were given out at the end of the conference. I grabbed five, hehe.

Keep an eye on the PSblog for any similar announcement to last year's. They might be running a tighter ship this year though because this is the big one.

Wonder how awkward it would be if Iwata and Kaz walk past each other.

Wait what? :O

My friends and I were checking out the Resistance demo at Sony's booth years ago... I want to say at E3 2006... and we saw Miyamoto playing Warhawk. In particular, he was basically trying out the Sixaxis controller and seeing how it worked with the game. Afterwards, he walked away from the demo, dropping the controller as a result, entourage in tow.
