Sony E3 2017 Conference Thread [Over]

I enjoyed it.

Let me break it down and start by saying Sony if your going to do a theater experience maybe step it up a little in the enthusiasm department. I showed up and the two older ladies hosting it were deader than the crypt keeper. I showed up in my PS Experience shirt had my PS sunglasses and my tags from the past years! All I got was a oh that's nice. Respek my name. I'm a PS fan! I flexed on em 4.2 times. Also where the cups at? Straight up if Sony wants to charge $10 I'm down to improve it. God bless their souls lol!

Now for the show...

We got what we asked for!

Appreciate Mr. Cerny's pre show talk. I liked the game reels the Undertale announcement was unexpected for the PS4 and Vita.

They had a lot of neat little announcements in their too.

They show was not bad but I will admit I could not wait for the PSVR segment and logo to go away. VR is cool but it's hard to convey in a conference.

They brought the games!

Shadow of the Colossus - Bluepoint is eating.
Lost Legacy - This gonna be sooo good!
Horizon DLC - Yessir!
God of War looks amazing!
Days gone is a sleeper that looked great!

No Destiny 2 gameplay?

The 3rd parties cam correct as well. Excited about Monster Hunter since I've never played it.

Spider man oh that looks so good. You can tell they are really trying to capture the essence of it. The combat looked on point!
If this game does well we could have a few Spivey exclusives.

Here is what I don't get so what they did not bring Bloodborne II or DMC5. Who said they were. Those were Gafs expectations.

Another thing to remember they have another dedicated conference PS Experience which now has E3 level reveals. They even mentioned it in the pre show which leads me to believe they could be saving some announcements.

Kinda sad Sucker Punch did not show their new IP. Must not be ready yet.

With that said maybe they gave us to much of what we wanted. Some dialogue would have been nice but hey you get what you ask for. And many of the games are coming out soon!
Overall I give it a:

B+

...Ubisoft wins the emotional ticket with Beyond Good and Evil this year!

Sorry ya'll type this on my phone.

After seeing all the conferences so far, this seems like it's going to be one of "those" E3s, where there are some good games shown, but a lot of focus will be on already announced titles. I mean, Anthem looked kewl and all, but so far it just doesn't seem like this year has the "UMPH" that last year had. Still not accounting for the show floor announcements and, well, Nintendo's thingy tomorrow, but these conferences... man....

Seemed like a bit of an abrupt ending and I was expecting a "just one more thing" moment. I'm really excited for Monster Hunter and Shadow of Colossus. Spiderman also looks pretty neat even with all the QTEs in the demonstration.

Days Gone getting major screen time continues to baffle me. It just looks so uninteresting and the zombie theme is so played out.

Some are saying 2019 others 2020. I'm in the 2019 boat. I expect E3 2019 to be similar to 2013's conference. Half PS4 and Half PS5. Not gonna make a lot of difference since I assume the PS5 is going to be BC meaning people will play newer PS4 titles on PS5. The whole Pro/X consoles have thinks complicated to predict when it comes to next gen.

But let's just leave these talks for the future.
We will start getting PS5 rumours in 2019-2020. Probably see a reveal late that year at PSX

Developers not willing to take risks and fans only wanting 'games' and complaining about other things have led to this. E3 press conferences are now just a reel of trailers. There is 0 character or magic anymore to these shows. Kinda sad really.

I partially agree.

On the other hand, when your main stage personality is Shawn Layton, then maybe compiling a trailer list and hitting play is the best option.

Think about it though. We can all agree this E3 was off.

But honestly look at all the game shown and I promise you people will say these look like good games and will be buying most of them.

People just weren't as "shocked" by anything this year.

I think looking at your list these are just the cycles we Go through in the industry. Everyone is on a similar development cycle and right now everyone is nearing the end or have just finished it. Which is why we are getting a ton of games out now and that should continue through next year. 2014 was also weak for similar reasons, we had games but we knew about apt already

Next year might be weak as well with a huge 2019 show

You are right, there is a 2-3 year pattern of game development. And you are right again we did get a lot of games release this year and even more next year.

For myself personally, after really enjoying the punk attitude and genre stretches of GoGv2 and then Wonder Woman with wife/daughters and a crowd of young women...Sony's offerings felt very macho, male and stale.

Sony better have Sucker Punch and From Software next E3 (or PSX). I can't believe the same company that put out last year's show made this. Even without showing major new exclusives the production, pacing and sequencing was just off in comparison.

Where was Gran Turismo? Yeah, I know it was in the pre-show.....but why isn't it in the main show? GT Sport is supposed to be their marquee release for Holiday 2017. And given that they were looking to push PSVR, it would have been incredible to have such a noteworthy title in amonst the other VR stuff. I can't help but wonder if it's about to see another delay.

They would rather showcase Final Fantasy XV Fishing as a PSVR title?

I don't see how folks can be thinking a ps5 is even close to being announced.

I'd be surprised if it's announced in 2019. But it will probably be 2020. Especially with tha mid gen refreshes.

I think we get one more solid round of games from the big developers and then they move to the "nex gen".

Graphics are so good now. Honestly I would be more than content if this gen was stretched out to 2025 at least. Things just started popping late 2015, early 2016. To pull the plug three years from now would be a dick move IMO.

I'd like to see Sony and Microsoft do Nintendo direct style E3s going forward, keep conferences for things like PSX for the hardcore fans of those platforms.

When was the last time sony didnt rely on 3rd party in the fall? Cant Remember the last time they had a killer 1st party lineup running up to Christmas

God, I can't get over how the crowd was so fucking dead. Was their audio mixing so bad that it couldn't pick up the crowd? Did they get super fans or hype men in the crowd?

I do miss the longer Sony conference. Would like less game announcements in the pre-show, move that stuff into the main meal! Surprised there was no hey, Stormblood and Crash coming out this month push. I was happy that they showed games for VR. Not shocked with no price cut on the Pro yet.

Overall, I thought it was good enough, my 2nd best during this E3. Saw lots of games that I would love to play. Excited for Detroit and GoW.

It was basically a retread of last years surprises (GoW, Days Gone, Spiderman) with a few new games in there. While I have no problem with the gameplay that was shown there wasn't much of a shock factor. That being said, Sony still has 2/3 more major conferences this year so there's still time for new announcements.

They have Gran Turismo for the fall/holiday. Though as I said, I'm a little worried that they are looking to delay it again since it wasn't featured on the main stage.

I agree. If you were to write out every new game announced over the past couple of days and what games received new or debut footage it's actually quite staggering.

Sons of Duck Dynasty Walking Dead and GOW are the ones I felt this way about for sure. Sony will need to work wonders to get me to care about a crusty macho dickhead like Kratos.

People must spoiled if they thought this conference was anything near bad let alone awful.

I'd say it was a solid 8/10. Plenty of games shown, lots that I actually want to play, and a fair few that amazed.

I gotta knock it for being short, and I am disappointed Sucker Punch didn't how up, but it could happen at PSX or the Game Awards, so who knows.

It wasn't just the sound. Their facial expressions and body language. Yikes.

I couldn't believe how at the end of every trailer, they would cut back to a shot of the audience looking quiet and unimpressed. If you don't hear people screaming and clapping, maybe you shouldn't cut to a shot of the audience......they never really learned. I was surprised that the best audience reaction was for CoD WW2.

Pretty much matches my thoughts on the conference. Definitely both this years and last years conferences seems truncated. Bring back the epic 100 min shows of past years Sony!

Just caught up. Undertale+Until dawn crews new game were the highlights for me. Im not fussed over Sony banking so hard on Days Gone.

This was basically the same amount of gameplay/trailer content as previous conferences, but with the developer/Sony rep stage talk cut out. I'm fine with them not having a lot of heavy stage discussion and chatter, but games like SpiderMan and Days Gone needed more in-depth demos with developers elaborating.

While not everyone can be pleased look at it from another angle, they showed games for 2017/2018.
Next year's E3 should bring a whole plethora of new games for 2018 - 2020 time frame.
As for PS5 mentions I think special event in January 2019, 6 years after PS4, 3 years after PS4P.

5 days ago: Everyone praises and article about Sony announcing games too early

Today: Why isn't Sony telling me about games coming out two years from now!

I thought it was a pretty interesting conference. Not blown away like the last 2 years, but stuff like Monster Hunter being real was kind of nuts.

Theater experience was fine. My fucking theater went stupid nuts at Undertale with a girl fucking dying. Louisville, Kentucky theater by the way. I also wanted to murder some people around me as usual for making shit jokes like making fun of Shu's accent. Also just stupid guesses from people I'm not even sure have paid attention to anything. "Eye of Judgment 2, Phantasy Star, Culdcept Saga"

You know who you are guy. Maybe. I don't know. Everything you said sounded stoopid.

I also enjoyed as usual being maybe that asshole who says "MONSTER HUNTER? SPIDERMAN?" whenever I guess the trailer 5 seconds in.

All the conferences get a C+ from me thus far.

Pretty much my opinion as well. Not a ton of new stuff has been shown at E3 '17. I was really hanging out to see some footage of RDR2, but I think that was really wishful thinking....Rockstar generally don't have much presence at E3

I guess everyone will have a different take on how good this E3 has been depending on what games they are into.....just not alot that has been shown does it for me.

Metro, Wolf II, FC5, FO4VR & Doom VFR are my highlights.

monster hunter looks fun, and i want shadow of the colossus.

not excited for anything else - sony got the pacing down this year, but the presentation aspect was lacking, this could have been a 'nintendo direct' instead. it's sort of the opposite problem microsoft had where their pacing sucked but they had a better presentation of the content and more exciting news.

What stood out for you as a more solid line up from Microsoft?
Just more games in general, a stronger focus on indie stuff. More games that I wasn't expecting coming in. More variety than I'd normally expect out of them, as they are usually very Gears/Halo-heavy.

Neither show really knocked my socks off, but I thought MS had a stronger presentation. I came out of that show looking forward to more games than I did going in, but no real change for me on the Sony front. It was good to see Spiderman gameplay, though. I saw what I wanted to see from it, for sure.

For the Horizon DLC I wonder if the split some of the work with the GG original team, allowing for a Horizon 2 next year. Or do people think that we will see something from the other studio first?

God, I can't get over how the crowd was so fucking dead. Was their audio mixing so bad that it couldn't pick up the crowd? Did they get super fans or hype men in the crowd?

i was in the crowd. was there any applause coming through for stuff like kratos in god of war? that got a lot of applause.

Sony's disappointed me. Pretty much just trailers. If I was there I would have felt like it was a waste of time.

What I took away was Sony is doubling down on VR. If you don't have their extra VR set, half the games aren't for you. Most stuff was what I already knew about, or I didn't care for (which is just a taste thing, I know).

I'll get SotC, probably. Ni No Kuni 2. Uncharted I will rent. maybe Undertale to have on a console. That's it I think.

Since when do people want to see games that aren't coming out for another three years?

I enjoyed it. Skipped over COD though.

Not much in the way of new games, although the PSVR ones look pretty good. Skyrim should be cool, hope there's a discount for people who own the regular version.

Spider-Man and GoW look pretty incredible. Days Gone is looking a bit better, has my interest. Monster Hunter looks interesting, not sure what's going on that differentiates it from mainline entries.

I'm gonna give it a 8/10.

Yeah, no news on From Software or The Last of Us 2 was dispappointing, otherwise it went as expected. Spider-man, Days Gone, Detroit and GoW looked great and SotC was a nice surprise.

there was no presentation. It was just a playlist of trailers. Could've just as easily put it on youtube as a playlist.

Not "everyone" thought it was a fair criticism. There were plenty of people on the side of "Yeah, Sony reveals games too early but all the other companies do it too!"

This conference was pretty much the chickens coming home to roost. They announced a bunch of stuff way early at E3/PSX, so now everybody is disappointed that there were no new projects to show off. Hype would be off the charts if they had revealed TLOU2 for the first time here, rather than at PSX.

i was in the crowd. was there any applause coming through for stuff like kratos in god of war? that got a lot of applause.

That one had the most applause from what I recall, but it still seemed underwhelming considering how much of a flagship IP it is to Sony. Everything else felt like people giving obligatory claps in golf game, at least on the stream's end. It didn't help that whoever coordinated the camera crew kept focusing on journalists trying to write notes and looking at their phones.
