Sony E3 2017 Conference Thread [Over]

Meh conference overall. Worst in a while but still some good things shown.

Holy shit
How is he always so on point lol

Actually now that I think of it....Microsoft kinda heavily focused on their 2017 line-up in the press conference while announcing plenty of 3rd party titles for 2018 and a few early 2018 exclusives. They didn't show much about 2018 at all.

That was really underwhelming.

Microsoft had the best conference so far.
Ubisoft had the biggest surprise announcement.

Also Undertale PS4 was the best thing announced tonight.

Original xbox bc was wow and even if they were multiplats, they did show great games and gameplay. Something i missed at Sony's conference was NEW stuff.

I will give them BC, but there wasn't a lot of great gameplay at MS's press conf, it was so fucking boring with an endless stream of multi platform indies 95% of the time.

The "amazing" 5% was third party multi platform games.

Not saying Sony's was amazing, it wasn't, but MS's press conf was really rock bottom, add to that Scorpio's price and I can't understand how can anyone think it was superior.

EA: fell asleep\10
Microsoft: Xbox is dead\10
Ubisoft: meh\10
Bethesda: The Evil within 2\10
Sony: 7\10

i was really surprised with Monster hunter and Sotc, even though i read the rumors, but after that, there was nothing new interesting, and the show was just 1 hour rather than the usual 90 minutes

this is the worst E3 i have ever seen, maybe nintendo could save it with a Breath of the wild DLC ?

I'm surprised to see Gaf so collectively down on this. Didn't you guys vote Uncharted 4 to be goty last year? This was all basically on the same wavelength.

GAF is not a hivemind. Most of us were celebrating the excess of amazing Japanese PS4 games this year. Sony's keynote showed almost none of that. It was pretty much a PS3-era E3 for them -- lots of dudebro shooters and some action cinematic experiences, from almost all western studios. Layton spoke of a diversity of titles but I wasn't seeing it.

I mean, the stuff they showed was good. But aside from MH there weren’t any big, new game announcements. Most of the stuff there was shown last year. Didn’t even get solid release dates for games. So weird.
They showed their big guns last year game development is slow

I almost feel that this didn't need to be a live conference at all. It felt kinda...pointless and wasteful. Some sort of digital event would've sufficed.

Maybe one or two of the high-profile games that world-premiered in last year's conference shouldn't have been revealed then, therefore allowing them to premier for the first time today.

I am very glad that Sony kept their conference short (60-70 minutes) and to the point, though. But even so, it still had some bloat...the VR section should've been shorter.

So when does this start? i'm so lost with that stupid timezones shit.

Ehh... So, I liked this conference, but I wanted to love it, and I didn't, honestly. They showed game after game, which was great, but most of them were games we'd already seen last year, and almost none of them are coming out this year. That's kinda the qproblem with these Sony conferences. Unlike Microsoft, they actually have true exclusives that justify the console's existence, but they always choose to show them literally years ahead of time. "Coming in 2018" just put a damper on the whole thing.

The only real "surprise" (which was leaked just before the conference) was Shadow of the Collosus getting a remake (I guess?). I'm not quite sure what to make of that. I mean, it's a great game, but why now, out of the blue? Also, is it going to be a different experience from the original, or a by and large 1:1 remake of the original game, Crash style (this is the vibe I got from the trailer)? Strange announcement for me.

Also, I really had a "that's it?" feeling at the end of the conference. Like, what they showed was great, but I guess I was just expecting more. More new stuff, more games that are actually coming out this year (there's Uncharted, which looks good, and there's Destiny, but fuck Destiny). I also continually set myself up for disappointment with these conferences for something that's probably never happening at this point (PS1 Classics on PS4) for one reason or another.

TL:DR, this was the weakest Sony conference in awhile, but they still had a good showing overall, and all things considered, it was probably the best conference of E3. God of War and Spider-Man look great. Can't wait to play them... in 2018. Still, 7/10, IMO.

I missed:

Sucker Punch
From Software (Demon's souls Remaster, Bloodborne 2)
TLoU2
GT Sport
Some (real) Final Fantasy
DMC5

So plenty of powder left for next year, together with a possible PS5 tease it could be amazing.
GT Sport was there...at the pre show.

There was too much content shown back-to-back. There was no time to digest much of what was shown. There should have been some devs around to talk about their games and give some live gameplay demos.

I guess some people are easily impressed. That was one of the worst E3 press conferences I've ever seen. They announced nothing. All the conferences were bad up to this point.. but that takes the cake. Jesus.

So because people are impressed with something you're not, there's something wrong with it? How?

I got plenty of updates to games I want to buy. Saw something new that I can't wait to buy now. There doesn't need to be new shit every year. Also Sony has another show they have to set up. It's unfortunate that this show didn't meet yours or others expectations, but happens.

Regardless of my expectations, and those of GAF, watching those in the audience told me that I wasn't far off in my opinions. People were holding their head in their hands. Practically bored to tears. I loved Spider-Man, thought God of War looked good, thought the Uncharted 4 DLC game looked solid. The thing is, for years they showed off games so far out they're still far out. Next year should hopefully be better.

and oh yeah, this was the only conference stream where i had significant problems. switched from YouTube to twitch part way through because it kept buffering only to find twitch was struggling a lot too. barely saw much of some of the trailers as a result.

Raised the bar too high from the previous years so this was a bit of a dud. Still loved it and so excited for early next year. Gonna be insane playing all those games after Battle Front 2.

The only they could have beaten expectations is if they saved the KH3 Trailer for the conference or DMC 5 was really a thing.

Why do people complain about scripted gameplay videos? This isn't a let's play where you're watching a greasy kid just swing around the town doing nothing, this is a presentation.

They showed some surprises like DBZ despite it being multiplat. It doesn't matter if you show exclusive. If you can energize your conference then that's good for me.

It was a show by the market leader who didn't have anything to talk about other than, hey, here are some games. This is the point I made a few days ago when I questioned what people expected when MS has new hardware and Nintendo is promoting newly released hardware.
I'd like to see them unveil some new services and QOL improvements to the PS4, but who knows if or when that will happen in year 4.

So hey, here are some games you can play.

Thought all the games looked pretty cool. Interested to see how spiderman turns out. And that monster hunter looked neat, never played one before but this looks like it could be good.

Some games from the pre-show could have been included too, like Ni No Kuni, Undertale, and Play Link.

I feel like those would have been very out of place inclusions, but I guess there was monster hunter in it, but I also guess MH is pretty big as far as I know.

All the shows were just OK. I expect Nintendo to be mostly what we already know is coming as well.

E3 is going to be dead in a few years and everyone will just have their own shows and events

Nintendo: all their directs

Sony: TGS and PSX

Microsoft: I dunno. They can figure it out. They're smart-ish

One bad E3 and suddenly E3 DOOMED!!!!!

Really not sure what to think of Dreams. I really am not sold on it at all as a game, and it continuously no-shows.

It would have been a lot better to do a live demo of Spiderman.

I watched Microsofts and Sony's conference and honestly, both were fucking shit. Microsoft has no content of note and a lot of what Sony showed off was from last year, with hardly any extension.

-Dreams, MM have done fucked up if they can't figure out what's going on with that, I'm genuinely concerned they can't make a game out of that.
-SOTC was awesome
-God of War pissed me off initally, no huge monsters but cooled down and realised it's actually very very cool.
-Fuck Spiderman, what a waste of Insomniacs time but they decided to go ahead with it, made it into a fucking QTE game that would make Ryse blush.
-Monster Hunter looks like someone at Capcom decided to not go McDonalds that day and gave that $10 to make a game.
-VR was good because I went for a nice long shit in that time.
-Days Gone looked okay, but as soon as they showed that i knew TLOU2 was going to be a miss because it has a lot of similarities with TLOU
-Detroit looked like a great laugh
-MAN OH MAN, Sucker Punch where the fuck you guys at?

What a letdown, really felt like Sony did not try this E3. I actually do get where people are coming from with the trailer after trailer issue, I had that problem myself. I don't care for a person to be physically up there playing the game but I think Spiderman was the only game which showed 'gameplay'.

NNK2 and GT Sport this year though, that makes me happy.

Edit - The drugged audience was also one thing, but the fucking camera director constantly showing their faces was the worst shit ever. It's like Sony pick from tramp up from the street and tell them to do the camera work in return for a happy meal.

Somewhat agreed. I'm shocked Sony relied on the crutch of games they just showed off last year WITHOUT TLOU2.

Just mediocre this year. I guess you can't have an E3 of dreams every year. Simply not enough studios and new games in the works.

But still. Save us, Nintendo!

I guess because they are playable on other consoles like PS4.

That doesn't make the conference any less interesting. As someone who owns a PS4 and not an Xbox, I fully believe that MS's conference was better. We saw a ton of new stuff there regardless of where you can play it.

We are a bit spoiled after the last few E3s to keep expecting that. It was kind of a perfect storm of announcements, this is more back to the norm. Good content but no surprises

I think Sony may be stretching themselves between PSX and E3 as well. They dropped some bombshells there last year. Realistically they could have held on to TLOU2 for a reveal this year at E3
