Sony Gamescom press conference set for August 14th

Sony does just fine getting quality games from all tiers of their internal development groups. The Vita's problem isn't that Naughty Dog isn't making a game for it, it's that Sony has shown us nothing beyond a small handful of late 2012/early 2013 titles.
They really don't.

Although Media Molecule is working on a Vita game, so it's not all bad.

TLoU isn't coming till next fall I imagine, they won't announce the date so early.

If TLoU is really aiming for a Q4 2013 release, and if, as many suspect, the PS4/Orbis release is around the same time, I wonder if Sony will do a special PS4/Orbis version of the game, not unlike what Nintendo did with Twilight Princess for the GC and Wii.

I doubt it will come out then. Tretton said they're happy to ship last, if it means they have the best hardware. So I'm guessing March-June'14.

Predictions:

PS Slim 2.0 official announced
16GB flash $199
250 GB $249
500 GB $299

WW $50 price cut for Vita and/or more Vita bundles
CoD: Blacklist Vita bundle announced

No TLoU release date announcement

To quote from the other topic on the new PS3

It seems like 179,229,269 are the magic numbers :P
He's reliable.

Those are the three prices that the new model is apparently coming in.

I don't think there will be a Vita price drop, i'll say that. I think they'll save that until October/November.

If there's a price drop, it will be for feb/march of 2013... no way Sony skips holiday season 2012 without a full priced Vita.

The hope is that Sept-Dec 2012 has some big software releases to support those Xmas sales in NA and Europe. COD and AC III are good starts.

Q4 2013 seems a bit too much for a game which could have been ready for Q4 2012 with a bit of crunch time.
It also depends on which games will be available for PS4 launch window (the plan is to have Uncharted 4 and Gran Turismo out within the first year).
At this point the best candidate for a PS3/PS4 dual release is The Last Guardian which would definetly get more exposure on a new console rather than being 'just an other game' on PS3.

Sony won't concede any ground to MS in the US with PS4, and that's pretty much sealed :P
In the worst case europeans will get shafted again, with PS4 relased in Q4 2013 in Japan and US, March 2014 in Europe.

What Sony should do for the Vita at Gamescom:
1. Price drop to $200 WITH a 4GB memory card and Stardust Delta
2. All previous Vita purchasers get one already released Sony published title for free for early support.
3. Gran Turismo Vita announced, coming out early 2014.
4. Demon's Souls Vita announced, made by From, coming out holiday 2013.
5. God of War Vita announced, coming out early 2014.
6. Jak 4 Vita, coming out holiday 2013.
7. Killzone Vita shown extensively, releasing early/mid 2013.
8. Multiple Sony Pub Fund style Vita only games announced, such as Binding of Isaac, a game from Notch, etc..
9. Real gameplay of CoD for Vita shown.
10. teaser trailer for Bioshock Vita shown, early 2014 release date given.

Top that off with this at TGS:
1. New Ys game announced for Vita
2. Legend of Heroes Sora no Kiseki trilogy HD re-release coming to Vita.
3. Final Fantasy Type-0 Vita port, releasing worldwide in early 2013.
4. New MegaTen Vita game detailed, coming out in late 2013/early 2014.
5. Kojima Productions new Vita game.

Do 80% of that and the Vita is set. Sony might do 10% of it (i.e. 1 or 2 of the 15).

Two more things:

- Update Vita PSN so the entire PSP digital catalog is available with each game priced at $9.99 or less.
- Update for full PSX support.

Nice list you have and it all seems so simple... though I'd be surprised if even one of your points comes to fruition.

So any chance to see a new/last damned game of Guerrilla on the ps3? I imagine any. I hate what has done with KZ3, they need to redeem.

They probably moved straight into PS4 development after KZ3. If they were working on a PS3 game all this time, I highly doubt they'd still be so silent.

I'm optimist that for vita scee at the gamescon will make a better job than scea at the e3(literally impossible to make something worse right? Right? RIGHT? ... sorry )

The problem with getting all the PSP games digital is that there are multiple problems with different games, whether it is a random license or similar, or something wrong with emulation.

Though I agree with your point on price, some prices are pretty ridiculous considering they are still so high and some games are like 5 years old+.
And obviously we are getting PS1 support at some point, we just don't know, I wouldn't be surprised if their "summer" turns out to be Australia's summer 2014, lol.

I still think there's a good chance of Killzone 4 as a 2013 PS3 title. I just think they would have always planned for 3 PS3 games for that IP. The other Guerilla team could be working on a new IP for PS4.

Predictions

PSThree
More characters join PlayStation All Stars Battle Royal
Beyond, gameplay video
MediaMolecules or Guerilla Games new IP announced for PS3/Vita
Gameplay video of Call of Duty Black Ops Declassified for Vita
FIFA 13 Vita gameplay demonstration, features crossplay with PS3
Need for Speed Vita gameplay video shown, features cross play with PS3
Killzone Vita trailer
Ghost Recon Final Mission announced (this got leaked with AC3 way back)
Invizimals Vita announced
Gran Turismo Vita announced, only showing the logo

The reason why I put the games in the above list
Gran Turismo is most popular in Europe
FIFA is extremely popular in Europe, if they showcase cross online play and being able to continue master league through cloud save, this would be huge
Invizimals was quite big in Europe for PSP, a Vita follow up makes sense due to the extra AR features, also the last game the developer made was Reality Fighters
It's time to see gameplay footage for COD and Need for Speed, both games are coming this year
Ghost Recon Final Mission was leaked along with Assassins Creed 3 Vita here is the link
MediaMolecule and both Guerilla Games are rumored to be making a new IP, I am guessing one will show up
Quantic Dream are European developers so it makes sense for them to show of more of Beyond, plus we still haven't seen enough of it unlike LoU and GoW4

Personally would love to see a story trailer of gow :a

i want to get hyped ! for gow cause its fucking gow.

We have just seen some good multiplayer videos and one decent and underwhelming gameplay video.

No Story trailer, no epic boss fights yet shown

The announcement of Beyond at E3 took much if not all of the excitement I might have had for an SCEE event away. I understand they needed the game at E3 and got Comic Con coverage they couldn't have gotten if they held it back but that could have been THE big surprise at Gamescom.

Media Molecule's next game might step in terms of surprises but that might be a better fit for GDC and it also could bury LBP Karting (which isn't their game, but still...).

So in terms of software I really don't expect anything new for PS3. Vita could use the attention, but I'm not sure if they can produce any really exciting announcements. Personally I hope EA makes a great Fifa 13 version for Vita and talks about it.

He's gonna be on stage announcing the new PS3 slim. I know who jeff_rigby is... he's Ken Kutaragi.

My friend, jeff_rigby is an enthusiastic 60 year old gamer. ^_^
May be he played hoop and stick with Kevin Butler before. I will always give him a free pass.

Show your respect !1!!

Well good deal. Then show off the supposed Ys IV remake coming to Vita instead.

They really don't.

Although Media Molecule is working on a Vita game, so it's not all bad.

I'd argue that Bend made a better Uncharted game than Naughty Dog has to date with Golden Abyss.

The best title Sony Japan has put out this generation is a Vita game.

As a participant in the Little Big Planet Vita beta I feel quite confident that the game will stand up VERY well with it's console brethren.

Resistance was sloppy, but then the franchise hasn't exactly been amazing on consoles either. Unit 13 was a former top tier console dev taking a shot at the handheld as well.

The problem is a matter of branding, approach, and painting a long term picture. Let us know that you've already started putting money in 2013 and 2014 titles as a means of proving commitment.

On the subject of Unit 13: How much better would it have been if Sony had never gone down the ugly road of having Slant Six make SOCOM Confrontation so Zipper could work on MAG, then trying to dudebro up SOCOM 4 when Zipper finally got back to the series?

If Sony had played it right with Zipper they have have gone straight from Combined Assault to a PS3 SOCOM and let Slant Six make Fireteam Bravo 2. SOCOM would probably still be a worthwhile shooter franchise, FB2 would provably have sold just as well, and Zipper could have put out two quality SOCOM games on the PS3 along with a release window SOCOM game on the Vita, without assassinating the brand and also killing Zipper at the same time.

Again, mismanagement of developers and IPs is Sony's problem, not just shoehorning the big name devs onto the Vita. The second tier teams within Sony are damn good, they just need to be handed the right existing IP or new IP template to be set to work on.

More reasonable and long term action points for VITA:

1) Sell the 3G version with a carrier, make this readily available at either a $99 to $0 buy-in price and 12 to 24 month contract (with a reasonable monthly fee)

2) PS+ For VITA with rolling access to a backlog of PSP Legacy games. Really leverage that library.

For this fall:

1) Release a 'Value' pack for VITA $250 with a game and 4GB memory card.

2) Have a day and date COD VITA pack.

For the next few years:

1) VITA phone, make it happen.

2) Make the VITA the Sony version of iPod touch. (e.g. A slick multimedia device - have the possibility of running Android applications).

3) Get their shit together with the integrated Sony services (Films, Music, Books, Games.)

I'd argue that Bend made a better Uncharted game than Naughty Dog has to date with Golden Abyss.
And practically everyone would disagree with you, myself included.

Golden Abyss is cool, and not even vaguely approaching the quality of UC2.

Vita need to be $199 or $180 with a memory card, Value Pack will do nothing.

..Xperia Play failed hard, so I don't think anyone want a gaming phone.

I believe PS Mobile can get the iOS/Android and other apps to Vita and Sony should release it soon before it's too late.

same thing can be said about UC3.

Sounds good, especially with GT. take some benefit from the 'future proofed' premium models and the relatively long time since GT5 to get out early.

Bingo:
- Last Of Us release date
- PS3-Slimmer announcement
- A bunch of Vita stuff
- Streaming Demos on your PS3 incoming for PS+ Members
- Beyond : Two Souls release date

This is a pretty good prediction IMO.

TLoU isn't coming till next fall I imagine, they won't announce the date so early.

I don't think they would want to launch it too close to the launch of next gen platforms. Will be a summer title at the latest IMO, spring more likely.
