In all honesty it's feeling like the Dreamcast... It gives me little faith in the PS4, which is bad....
But the Dreamcast had a great library of games...

Vita is getting support, just not an active one.
So it's not a zombie system.
Unlike touch screen 3D actually adds nothing to the gameplay.
It's an useless gimmick, even more useless than 3D.
It's fun to watch a trainwreck but let's get real here.
Vita isn't going to "die" and Sony isn't going to pull the plug on it so there is no reason to worry about that. At worst it just won't get any real 3rd Party support. It will be up to Sony and the smaller indie studios they can afford to bankroll to support the system. And don't forget that PS Minis work on it as well so there's that.
Frankly, I'm not upset if that turns out to be the case, because I'm sure there will be plenty of "Sound Shapes" style indie-hits in it's future and I'll be glad to be able to play them on the go.

Good on Sony for admitting there is something that needs to be rectified.
Nintendo would have just said: ''What problem? You spoiled gamers! We don't want your money!'', dichotomy.

And yet Nintendo actually rectified the situation last year when 3DS wasn't doing as well as planned and apologized for how bad things went. What has Sony done to try and save Vita?
Only Reggie said that, and yes that was a stupid comment of him to make.
Nintendo would of said "We promise we will do everything we can so the 3DS can get great games and sell better".
They have given it two analog sticks, they have started pleaded with 3rd party developers to develop games for it, they have given Canadian gamers discounts on the hardware, they have even given an OLED 5 inch screen. D:
Why wouldn't those developers also go to the 3DS? Just curious...bigger user base.
And yet none of those are comparable to the 1-2-KO that was a price drop and a Super Mario 3D Land bundle. =P
And yet Nintendo actually rectified the situation last year when 3DS wasn't doing as well as planned and apologized for how bad things went. What has Sony done to try and save Vita? Yoshida says nice things, but so far he's been just spouting talk and no results have been shown. Also how did this thread turn into a console war...
I was an early adopter, so you can faintly hear my whimpering on the side.

It's a lot easier than admitting the company you are emotionally invested in has sent out their latest handheld to die.
That's just how he is. He's a pretty cool guy who will typically answer your questions on Twitter as well.

So by that logic , the superior graphics of Vita (compared to 3DS) is also a "gimmick" ?
actually, nintendo has been quite open in addressing their shortcomings with the 3DS launch and took some pretty extreme measures--selling hardware at a loss which they never do--to correct it
miyamoto and iwata have both admitted they didn't have the right software available to support the system, and as recently as a month ago iwata pointed out that 3DS still isn't selling up to their expectations outside japan
I'm waiting for a price drop.
$250 + mandatory mem card is just too much right now for a handheld. that's more than a phone.
a $199 bundle with mem card and a high quality game would be a nice deal though. do it sony!
You're forgetting that the handheld market is very important in Japan, & that Nintendo & Sony are Japanese companies.
So, to you, superior graphic is 'gimmick'? I mean I understand you want to defend Nintendo but that's going a bit too far, buddy.

Good graphics is a feature the 3ds doesn't have. It's the reason why some people would get a vita over the 3ds. How is it not a gimmick? And how is a gimmick a bad thing?

Im fine aslong there is steady first party support.
AssCreed is a B team and the developer for COD has not been announced. Look past the names of the games and look at the devs behind the titles. Resistance is a good series but was handed off to a B developer and it sits at A 60% on metacritic.
Out of the two, Nintendo is the one that has taken decisive action to save their handheld, not Sony.Good on Sony for admitting there is something that needs to be rectified.

The problem is that handhelds are most popular in Japan and Nintendo has secured almost all big Japanese franchises to 3DS. That's it.
If that's the case Sony should probably take some time to study how to divide resources between two platforms equally.Could it be the case that Sony is hands tied with Vita software because its first party teams are working in PS4 games at the moment?
AC, Cod and Bioshock are all coming. Which is more western support then most handhelds get. Its japanese devs that are vita-shy.
I think the issue here is that AC and COD are going to be overshadowed by the console releases, while Bioshock Vita, for all intents and purposes, is vaporware.
I really want to think something like Dreamcast can't happen again. Especially because I love handhelds and this kind of "proves" that they're being eaten alive by phone gaming.
Even if they are overshadowed they only have to sell a fraction of what the main series do to be big hits
They should drop the notion of seperate handheld-consoles, but rather try something like the Game Gear-Master System, but even more advanced. Make a Wii U like console where the GamePad is actually an handheld that can be used seperately from the console. You download 1-2 games to it and you can play it somewhere else.
I think it's telling that I could get a vita for 160 with a 16 gig mem card and 2 games off craiglist. Many other similar deals out there.
They'll probably sell really well among the existing Vita userbase but the question is whether they can sell systems when the same games (or almost the same games) are available on all the other platforms as well.Even if they are overshadowed they only have to sell a fraction of what the main series do to be big hits
