Sony is lagging behind compared to Microsoft when it comes to their controllers.

They need to make their triggers much more concave. And make their analogue sticks have a smaller dead zone. And have asymmetrical analog sticks.
Please, god no. Stay with the DS4 and leave us with our perfect controllers the way they are.

what? the xbox one controller feels WAY cheaper than the DS4, not even close. The clamshell design on XO controller is horrible, you grasp it and feel a little give in the shell, not a good feeling. And the weight is off. And the sticks are too loose. 360 controller is way better than X1 controller
No idea what you're talking about, have you actually held an xbox one controller? What about the Elite? Plus, deadzones can be adjusted within games if the devs allow you to (look at Halo5 /Titanfall)

The DS4 are poorly built, no argument

Funny, I remember them being well made from PS1-2

Wouldn't say they are poorly built still have 2 immaculate controllers one from launch and the other an anniversary one and I play more then prob 95% of ps4 players.

its not as wide spread as the vocal minority make out. But that's the internet all over.
I expect failure rates are in line with every other device.

I keep hearing about people with cheap and flimsy PS4 controllers, but I honestly find them very sturdy, and the X1 controller too light, creaky, and flimsy. Both of my launch DS4's and a white one I bought around the time Destiny dropped are all still brand new looking and in excellent condition. And one of my launch controllers has taken a ton of heavy wear.

I also think the DS4 has a superior ergonomic design allowing easier access to the bumpers, not to mention it has the mic port, trackpad that serves as another button, the light that can be utilized, a recharbale battery, etc. The X1 controller is just another controller with slightly harder to reach bumpers.

There is the Elite controller, which is really nice, but let's be honest it's a $150 boutique item.

"Have you held an elite?" you mean "have you held this controller that cost £60 more then your standard one" how do you expect it to feel ffs lol

I VASTLY prefer the DS4 to the XBO controller, so speak for yourself op. Plus the DS4 is rechargeable without buying a separate battery pack, so it's battery life doesn't bother me at all.

Love the DS4. Stick rubber peel problem has been solved now for a long time. No need to bring that back up.

I don't understand the battery complaints on the DS4.

Why not just plug the controller into the PS4 when you're finished gaming?

You easily get 6-8 hours out of it, if you're gaming for longer sessions than that consistently with zero breaks which would allow you to again charge the controller, that's kinda worrying for health reasons.

I don't get the build quality problem.

I've got 4 controllers that have been used often. Only had the peel problem on my two launch controllers, which were replaced for free by Sony (even the shipping was free).

Now they're fantastic.

Has anyone ever had the Master System controllers? Now that was a build quality problem.

Dissapointing Sony did not announce new colors or a new (improved) controller. Heck I'm still wating for those colors that europe have.

I like what microsoft did on the other hand.
They announced new colours prior to e3, there's gold and silver and a see through pad in the way.

Well they added the touchpad and the microphone plug in this generation, and redesigner for the best the pad...
Maybe the material could be of a better quality, but at least for PS4 i think they did a good job while keeping the old feeling.

Because they're still fairly ubiquitous for some devices and it means you don't have to plug in while you recharge. Alternatively you can have multiple charging packs or multiple sets of rechargable AAs, which are far cheaper than having 2 Dual Shocks. Or, you can just plug it in to charge your Charge and Play kit. Generally the XBO + Charge kit costs the same as the DS4 or similar, in my region at least.

It's far more versatile. I used to be in your camp until one day it actually became handy and I was like "fuck, it's not actually a bad idea!"

I haven't touched a AA in years, nor do I ever plan to again.

Anything that makes me is a failure and a non purchase, this isn't 1989.

My only issue is the fuck awful battery. I even installed a bigger one from the ps3 controller and it didn't help much.

I'm still a fan of just swapping batteries like with the xb1 controller. I've got 4 rechargable AA's ready at all times.

The build quality and battery could have been a bit better but other than that the DS4 is my all time favorite controller.

Ergonomically the DS4 is vast improvement over the DS3

That said, the build quality is beyond shit, Sony really cheaped out and it shows, I've had to replace 3 times something I have never had to do with the many other consoles I have owned

"Have you held an elite?" you mean "have you held this controller that cost £60 more then your standard one" how do you expect it to feel ffs lol

Yes, it costs more and it feels like so. Plus it gives you so many features that the standard controller doesn't have at a price far below those of custom shop controllers.

It's shitty Sony hasn't introduced their own pro controller. I could never go back to a regular gamepad

Agree.

Coming very close to buying a 3rd party controller with non parallel sticks as well.

After the elite xbone controller I have been spoilt.

It's still the best Sony controller (that's not saying much) but MS certainly beats them in the controller arena.

MS controllers are the best thing about the Xbox brand. Especially recently.

The new Model-A DualShock 4's actually have better battery life than the older models. My Darth Vader Model-A lasts twice as long as my original white DS4.

I've heard the trackpad thing is awful. That it's like trying to play a FPS on a notebook

Pretty much. The button placement is also problematic. I spent many hours trying to train myself to use this thing and eventually gave up and went back to a DS4 when using my Steam Link.

It is the bomb for RTS games like Civ 5 though. Simply amazing.

I don't understand the battery complaints on the DS4.

I have one of those two-pad charging stations from Energizer, I believe. Just plop the controller into it when done. I have only run out of juice once while I had the flu and was marathoning Destiny because I couldn't walk very far without having to sit. I just plugged in the controller and switched to another. I get six - eight hours in a charge, even though the controllers are years old at this point, which is plenty.

This. And those hundreds of hours is per game, obviously. I have played thousands already in total I'm sure.

Same. I play quite a lot of FIFA too so there has been many a time where i've thrown it or hit it in frustration off the table. Still fine, nothing broken or chipped, stick are 100% intact, no sticky buttons etc. Best controller of a games console for me. The X1 controller was such a let down compared to the 360 one.

The DS4 is the greatest controller of all time in my opinion. Has that classic PlayStation feel with a better design, and a share button. I'm glad Sony is focusing on delivering great story driven games, than controllers. To me it seems MS are obsessed with making new controllers this generation. Which is crazy becuase they were bragging about spending millions and millions of dollars on R&D for the X1 controller, yet still no GOAT share button.

As for the battery life issue, that doesn't really effect me. The battery last 5-6 hours, I don't see how anyone can just sit there and play a video game for 5-6 hours straight.

?

It's not an either or situation. They are different teams

The only problem I have with the DS4 is the fucking battery life. I love the feel of the controller in my hand though so I don't know what OP is talking about.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I have no problem with the DS4. I've been using the one I got at launch with no issues, in rotation with a couple others. I heard about the rubber peeling off the sticks so I proactively got little grips to put on the tops and it's been smooth sailing.

Still haven't had issues with build quality on any of my Dualshock 4s. Can't say the same for my Xbox One controllers (not to mention the fact that they are now about to release a 4th iteration of their controller since launch...which idk, that seems just really unfair for controller adopters). Love the feel and shape of the Xbox controller, but I'm still partial to DS4. Perhaps if I've had to go thru 3 different controllers I'd be singing another tune.

I like the system but my god does the controller feel like it was slapped together from some pretty awful components. The textured rung on the control sticks feels cheap and nasty, and the shoulder triggers feel spongey, and give next to no feedback when pressing them down. The positioning of both the share and pause button feel counter-intuitive for me as well as they've been slapped right next to the D-Pad and face buttons to make room for the huge-ass touchpad on the damn thing. The only positives about the cntroller for me are the D-pad and the face button, but those have been solid since the PSOne days!

Got to admit, the Wii U Pro controller is my favourite of this gen. Just a well balanced pad overall. Just a shame the triggers aren't pressure sensitive on that controller, that's the only flaw I can think of with that controller.

I much prefer PS4's controller to the Xbone huge piece. My only complaint is, like others have mentioned, battery life. Apart from that, even the feeling and weight feel good.

I think the preference in size for you controller seems to be the main divider for people, rather than a comparison between whats ahead or behind.

With that being said, I wouldn't compare the elite controller with the regular dualshock4 since the price points obviously lead to a gap in the quality of materials. Wouldn't mind a higher priced, higher quality ds4, but I would stick to the smaller design.

I must have gotten lucky with my launch DS4s because I haven't had issues with any of them (now I've probably jinxed it).

The DS4 also feels more comfortable to me than the 360 controller, but I have never tried a xbo controller admittedly. Regardless of comfort though, the unreliability of using the d-pad on the 360 controller always made it a pain in the butt and annoying to use.

Is the Cronusmax adapter not good enough?

I'm still shocked Sony haven't got 2000mah as standard now. I could understand at launch cutting cost but come on now.

i love this threads lol

i Love DS4, all my friends love it, controller is amazing the only bad thing about it is the battery life, yes it suck and Sony should adress that.

DS4 is fantastic but i won't mind a DS Pro like Elite fully customizable, i´d love to change the analogs and R2/R1 sensivity, that would be great!

i like the ds4 d-pad and buttons, but i don't like the symmetrical sticks. i think it's because the controller is slightly wider because of the track pad, that it makes the sticks constantly feel almost out of reach for me and my tiny hands :(

xbox one controller wins this generation 4 me

Lagging behind is a bit of hyperbolic, just think of the improvements from PS3 to PS4. If they continue on that trajectory I'd hardly consider it lagging behind.

Wiiu pro beats it in both quality construction and battery.

It's pretty awesome for sure. Only complaint i have is the sticks aren't concave, nor do they have enough grip on them. That one thin ring isn't enough. Beyond that it really is a godlike controller.

He was referring to build quality.

Do you prefer DS4's build quality to the X1 controller's?

Purchased the Uncharted DS4, thumbs stick improved dramatically over launch controllers I have. Most of them are just so worn down

Biggest complaints of DS4 for me were the launch sticks being trash and the battery life.

If there is one thing the Dualshock has over the Xbox Controller, it's durability. I've thrown my DS4 quite a few times now and the sucker just won't break (which I'm grateful of).

Hasn't the build quality been fixed yet? I got a new one 12 months ago and use it constantly for PS4/ PC and it's in perfect condition.

IMO aside from potential build quality the DS4 is a better controller in every way, it's scandalous that it's taken MS so long to add Bluetooth to it's controller.

Is don't care for the xbox one controllers. The shoulder buttons really suck IMO. Ps4 and 360 controllers are best controllers.
