Sony Panicking Over PS5 Overheating Issues

I'm with you, where there's smoke there's fire.
People need to detach themselves from these little plastic boxes as if a possible issue being presented by members of the community is some kind of slight and personal attack against them.

If this is true, guess what? It will be dealt with in one manner or another. It's not the end of the world.

" Reports say current PS5 design is failing due to overheating and compare it to the Xbox 360's dreaded RRoD thermal issues. Now we understand why the PS5 devkit has massive ventilation."

Well that developer kit was in devs hands for a while now. Wouldn't it be safe to assume that since then they had enough time to redesign the cooling system and the chassis?

"The heat problems may force Sony to redesign system's current cooling and chassis design."

That's where this part gets me.

Also OP the article doesn't say that Sony is panicking over this. That's something you added yourself. Could you please match it to the articles headline?

Headline:
PlayStation 5's rumored heat issues should be solved in final console

I would change it if it would let me. The link in my Google Feed used the word panic which is why I put it in the headline. I have a screenshot too but this damn thing won't let me upload it.

I LOL'ed.

Well thermal issues =/= overheating issues, overheating basically results in a hardware failure of some kind. Thermal issues just means it's getting hot and as such something like a fan working overtime can handle it, but then there's an induction of noise which becomes another issue itself.

"Supposed unnamed dev sources tell reporters like Windows Central's Dan Rubino and Jez Corden that the console is simply belting out too much heat for the cooling array to handle."

"Reports say current PS5 design is failing due to overheating and compare it to the Xbox 360's dreaded RRoD thermal issues."

I doubt that Sony will release a console that's prone to massive hardware failures due to overheating. And I also doubt that Windows Central are the only ones hearing about this if true.

I remember some talk some months ago about the PS5 using a more expensive cooling solution that could drive its price up. And honestly, what would it cost them to send shill extraordinaire Jason Schreier to deny these rumors? And if they haven't, doesn't that tell us something?
Maybe this ties in, maybe this is the solution and the problem and information in the OP has come from another point in time and just surfaced now. No one even bothers to think about this stuff rationally. They probably had to overhaul their cooling solution and presently they're working out the housing of the system which is why it hasn't been seen yet.

It's not all doom and gloom.

Rich went from this humble fat tech dude to total Drama Queen because it sells. I used to watch him all the time and I actually remember that one day he made a hot take on some company and it went viral and I think thats when he made a turning point in his content creation. It wouldn't be such a problem if he then didn't have to come back 48 hours later to apologize for believing a false Reddit rumor. he just wants to be the first to report about it.
That was epic. 😂🤣😂🤣🤭🤭🤪

I still like him (sometimes he's really smart) but he should really think twice. Reacting the 1st is always risky. This rumor is based on... wind, pure wind, and you're right, it's not the 1st time he's doing it.

I remember that Bloomberg article. But it sounds like it could be a solution to the problem which means the system won't have those issues at launch.

Also why Windows Central? Who else is verifying this besides them?

It does sound like more people would know about this (like the GitHub leaks) but so far it's just a Microsoft centric website that associates themselves with people like Mooch and CrapGamer. That's why I doubt this rumor.

It's a rumor but I can kinda see this being an issue with the GPU running at 2.23GHz.
And you need to remember it's not just a GPU die, it's an APU so it's both the CPU and GPU which require this cooling. You're going to hit a thermal ceiling much easier and heat production will be higher than if it was one or the other on their own separate dies.

I don't even think this rumor is probable to be true and like you said, there are some red flags with this story. But it's definitely possible when we consider that it's not the first time we've heard about the PS5 cooling situation and no Sony equivalent of Windows Central came forward to deny it. I'm not saying that combination makes it real, but it makes it plausible. Certainly more plausible than the passionate reactions going on in this thread. And like DynamiteCop said:

Even if there is an issue, it's probably going to be fixed.

I have no horse in this race, but wasn't there supposed to be some sort of 'lavish' system? Or is everything just hyperbole as usual (hint hint)?
Yes....much like the "hundreds of events" throughout the year to discuss and promote the PS5. 🤔

I definitely agree with you there. If anyone else is hearing about this from their contacts I'm pretty sure they will talk about it.

Remember what I said about the GitHub Leak? Eurogamer had contacts that verified that information I'm sure with this one the same will happen if developers are really talking about it.

What axe? You guys jumped all over me for sharing an article about potential overheating problems and the panicking term was in the headline on my Google Feed. I didn't add that in. Jesus Christ.

A certain type of console fan, probably the same type that has been screaming SSD! SSD!, are real sensitive right now. I wouldn't take it personally

Meh......one of the many reasons I tend not to buy consoles day 1. While I'm not always successful at waiting, I TRY to wait for the first revision before I buy.

Its pretty sad that these agents of FUD always serve the same masters. I mean seriously, when did you last see a Nintendo or Playstation affiliated site go after Xbox in the same way?

Proof?

I mean, maybe it's FUD maybe it's not. But just throwing accusations around without proof is like the bad side of #MeToo.

It doesn't really affect me either way and if it is FUD then the people doing it should stop, 100%. But I won't call it FUD until there's hard proof of it. People were trying to call Github FUD (mainly because Microsoft owns at least a part of it) at one point, too. Sometimes shit's just true.

Personally gonna reserve judgement on this particular rumor, tho. Needs more proof. Maybe it could be referring to the retail version of the system, who knows. But I'd like to think cooling is something Cerny and his team got a handle on a long time ago regarding PS5.

Why would they ask on Twitter if it's FUD or legit when he claims to have known the guy? That seems highly suspicious.

If someone like Jason Schrier and well known journalists start saying there is a problem, then I would believe it.

Schriers journalistic integrity was completely nuked from orbit after his pathetic display in regards to sophnar0747 sophnar0747 and her article about the political bias in games journalism.

Schrier: There is no bias, people aren't hired and fired based on their political leanings
Everyone: Ok, who do you work with that is openly conservative
Schrier: *autistic screaching* THERE'S NO BIAS BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK!

As others have said, try taking the rumour with a grain of salt. No need to get irrationally upset a over it.

People said the same thing about the PS4 before launch.
And I ended up with a 747 with my launch ps4. This is a bs rumor but Sony has to prove to me on the cooling after this generation of Boeing inspired design.

If the PS4 had massive overheating issues like the 360 did I would have heard about it. The most that I've heard is that the console is loud and that doesn't necessarily mean it's suffering from massive overheating issues.

100% of the white original form factor 360 consoles are scrap metal and plastic. This is absolutely incorrect.
