Sony PSP 3000 announced (Mic/Better screen) - Compare in Post #245 WOW

Deserved thread tbh

Announced at Leipzig, the PSP 3000 will look like the previous models but will have a built in microphone and a better LCD screen.

Price: 199 Euros with FIFA, Harry Potter, Buzz and Go!Communications, at October 15th.

Not much of a upgrade, if i was into Skype then maybe the purchase may be justfied, maybe.. sounds like a worthless upgrade for me.

A better LCD? How, the one on the 2000 is pretty damn flawless.

Anyway, this is a minor change, no real reason to buy this over the 2000.

Better LCD? I'm guessing in terms of ghosting. Do want, will buy.
So far they've just said it has brighter intensity and better colours, along with reduced glare. Nothing about the ghosting issue so far so let's keep our fingers crossed.

me in another thread said:
Was the 'PSP-3000 in Production in China' thing proved not to be legit? If not, then this will probably include the built-in mic and the PS Home button that was mentioned.

Guess it was true after all.

There were so many times I almost got the 2000, happy I kept the phat. Now if I could get it with games other than FIFA and Harry Potter.

Will there be hands-on impressions?

I said this when the 2000 was announced, but now I mean it: it's time to buy a PSP
as long as it's released at the current model's price.

There have been some rumors floating on the Japanese side for quite some time saying that the the new screen of PSP-3000 is Organic LED.

I've never seen an organic LED screen. I'm guessing that it is some kind of improvement, though. :D

Doubt that, maybe on the next PSP. The costs would be too high to do that.

oh snap, if that's true, we get longer battery life cuz OLEDs draw less power. :)

Clearly a response to the 2000 being hackable. (although this will be hacked within a month of release).

Primarily they eliminate ghosting (even the fastest LCDs on the market still have horrible ghosting with certain color transitions), they are also thinner and use less power.

It's hard to believe it cost wise though.

I happened to see one today on display at a Yodobashi Camera. Incredible looking. Too bad it was 200,000 yen for about a 10 in. screen. Highly doubt it will be cost effective for the new model PSP.

Microphone and brighter screen? Not enough for me to ditch my lite as I did from the original.

Good news for people who waited off...nothing that makes me feel outdated, though.

At best it will be LED backlight :-/

There's no way it would be OLED. That's WAAYYYY to expensive. (For reference, see how much their 11" OLED monitor costs.)

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION.

"Better screen" here is pretty subjective. They said colors will be better. This means the screen displays colors and contrast more accurately. This doesn't make the screen FASTER.

This means the ghosting will stay.

they really need to make the analog stick "popable." Press in to pop it up for playtime, press it back in to store/travel. I'd play a lot more 3D games on it if they did that.

It just means there isn't a confirmation of either one yet.

It also looks like the the case isn't flat in the middle of the d-pad/buttons and sinks in a bit.

On the other hand Sony DID release a Clie with OLED screen around 4-5 years ago, and that was selling somewhere around 800$ IIRC.

I don't think there's any need for preemptive DC though - surely there'll be impressions about it. As long as it's still an LCD, ghosting isn't going anywhere, no matter how fast they make it, the best we can hope for is less of it.

That's actually a good idea. As long as it wouldn't break if you accidentally left it up or it somehow got 'popped' while it was in a bag or your pocket or something.

If you've seen a cellphone in the past 3 years, you've probably seen an OLED. The easist way to tell is the insane black levels.
