the slims screen isn't what i would describe as "ghosty as hell". it's not great, but it's not that bad either.

i'd consider buying this new model if the screen almost eliminates ghosting entirely and is still easily hackable. otherwise, pass.

I'd much rather have them continue to push the hardware forward, improvement-wise, than just sit on the same old thing forever. Nobody is forced to buy this PSP, and it existing isn't hurting anybody who already owns one, so what's the big deal? Let those who have yet to get one get a better version.

On the other hand Sony DID release a Clie with OLED screen around 4-5 years ago, and that was selling somewhere around 800$ IIRC.


I don't think there's any need for preemptive DC though - surely there'll be impressions about it. As long as it's still an LCD, ghosting isn't going anywhere, no matter how fast they make it, the best we can hope for is less of it.

The last PSP update nobody could tell clearly if the screen was faster. This will happen again. When i unpacked my Daxter PSP 2000, i sadly discovered the same ghosty screen.

I prefer to not get my hopes up and since they mentionned different screen improvements in the conference but not display speed, chances are more on the side of "the ghosting will still be there". People shouldn't at least get they hopes up.

Lastly, i know ghosting is always there theorically but at 6 milli or under, it takes yourself some goddamn great eyes to perceive anything. So i wish the PSP screen had practically no ghosting, not technically no ghosting.

Even with minor updates, I would still like to get this new PSP. Hopefully they are packaged differently here in NA. They way the PSP-2000 is package makes it look like a kids toy. Looks like Japan will go crazy for them.

I'll be looking into Sony's claim that the PSP 3000 is "hacker proof". I'm sure Sony wants to guarantee to developers that there game development costs won't be for naught, if the game doesn't sell due to piracy. I'm sure we'll get another redesign in a year after the PSP 3000 is launched, due to eliminating or reducing piracy.

It's not a big deal for sure, but it's irritating to those who just purchased a considerably significant upgraded model of it (the 2000) only to find out a more feature packed version will be released shortly.

psp 3000 has a built-in microphone so yeah. it's pretty much a psp phone if you have a skype account and wifi access.

Video playback is a quick, easy way to test the response time of the screen.

In dark scenes, particularly, it's almost unwatchable it's so ghosty.

This has been my ONLY complaint about the PSP since day one.

^The FCC is only interested in the radio/electrical parts. The device only has to be recognizable, not detailed.

But yea, PSP is worse off with many color ranges having problems(dark being the worst), so any improvement would be welcome.

I agree wholeheartedly. It's not really a big leap anyways; the jump from phat to slim > the one from 2000 to 3000.

Yea if it were really 6ms there would be no ghosting whatsoever. Ghosting would stop at 16ms(16ms = 60fps). The problem like you said is that all they tell you is the one fastest of the response times in the LCD.

lots of nonsense in this thread. first off,if you bought a slim,you will not notice that much of a difference when you are in a game,i guarantee you. there is only so much they can improve since the system already has a backlight. its not like going from the gba to gba sp. yall are jus getting sucked into the allure of the new shiny product syndrome. so 2000 oweners shouldnt worry. 1000 series owners like me are the ones that should upgrade,2000 owners would just be throwing away money.

Some of you need to stop being silly. Are some of you completely oblivious to manufacturers passing on savings from cheaper mass production to the consumer and sometimes the added benefit of better revisions? The bleeding edge tech is initially expensive due to manufacturing just ramping up. Just like the PS3 lowered in cost and blu-ray movies will one day lower in cost too.

The 2000-series screens were already a big improvement over the 1000's in overall brightness and contrast (imo), so any improvement will probably be marginal. I guess they could go matte...

And I doubt it'll be OLED, because Sony sells an 11" one for like $2500.

My DS Lite has served me well for portable gaming over the last few years and there's still plenty of stuff to come that I want, but looking around a lot of interesting PSP stuff can be had for next to nothing now, so I'm considering jumping in.

I'll wait for impressions of the new model before committing to anything though.
