Sony PSP 3000 announced (Mic/Better screen) - Compare in Post #245 WOW

It's too bad that I don't have a longer commute. Realistically I never even use my DS any more and I already have a phone and music player I carry to work. The PSP is a good piece of hardware, but at its cost I just can't ever justify picking it up (especially with a PS3, Wii and 360 at home).

I hate football games, but I want that Madden bundle just for the blue PSP. Question though, does the PSP itself have any Madden branding on it, or is just blue?

No branding, just blue

Just saw the press release.

Offering the highest-level contrast ratio, response time, and wider color gamut possible on a portable LCD screen, the new PSP is capable of displaying movies and photos in more natural and vibrant colors on its high resolution 4.3 inch wide screen. The new LCD screen adopts an anti-reflection technology, which enables users to see the screen more clearly in well-lit places, even when used outdoors.

I hope that's true, if it's anything like the iPod Touch screen I'm dropping money on PSP 3000!

anyone that thinks the new screen is going to do away or markedly improve ghosting over the slim is kidding themselves.

the main new feature of this model is the one unseen.

edit: i'm interested in what they mean by wider color gamut.

LOL it's one of them, that's the list of the games which they will make bundles with :D :lol

Well then... lame. Not that I wanted the games anyway, nor would they have fetched any money at retailers. But yeah, shitty deal as usual, will probably get this one from the US as well.

Agreed, but I don't see the future adoption rate for this model justifying this. Too many people with the original model and slims that won't feel like upgrading to 3000.

I don't see it as justifying it either, but not every decision that Sony has ever made has made sense.

I don't care whether or not it makes sense, mind you. I just care about my own convenience when it comes to playing games.

can someone explain what they could mean by wider color gamut? i thought the psp already displayed 16.7 m colors. which i though was the max?

Color gamut has nothing to do with color depth. It basically refers to how large a subset of all "possible" colors a device can reproduce. Rather than me writing an incomplete explanation just read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamut

Personally, even as a gadget fan I still don't feel tempted to upgrade from my launch unit.

I believe it's the number of colors accurately reproduced on the screen at the same time...

or what he said ^^

It's not a big deal for sure, but it's irritating to those who just purchased a considerably significant upgraded model of it (the 2000) only to find out a more feature packed version will be released shortly.

You mean, like, everybody who has ever purchased a computer? Or, hell, most electronics period?

If they aren't bullshitting here, this means the LCD response time will be improved.

Also, according to the spec sheet, it's still 802.11b.

looks like sony made a deal with EA. Maybe EA wanted better sales or something and sony replied by having their games released with the new PSP?
More support from EA is coming?

What is the PSN coupon that comes with this for?

And I also want them to announce which colors are coming with which sku

In the Ratchet pack which comes with a Silver PSP, echochrome.

$200 for PSP and a 4gb MS is a pretty damn good deal.

I wonder if there are any hardware revisions for the 3000 to prevent pandora/CFW.

What the fuck Sony. Fuck your bundles. I just want a Black PSP-3000 on day one for $170 and I'll buy it.

Well, 4GB Mem stick isnt bad but I want a black PSP bundled with it.

damnit, the free stuff is always for things I own.
How can you own the PSP version of Everyday Shooter if its not even out? :lol

Anywayz: I am deffinitly picking the new 4GB Model with Everyday Shooter in November.

I'm always buy hardware redisigns. Its a habit of mine and it'll give me a chance to change the color of the PSP I play since looking at Silver gets boring after awhile :D

New Pearl White PSP confirmed.

In addition to the basic "Piano Black" color, the new PSP will also come in "Pearl White" and "Mystic Silver"(*4) to meet variety of lifestyle and preference of all ages.

Composite cable output for games confirmed.

Further expanding PSP's entertainment capabilities, the video-out port(*3) is also expanded to output gameplay in interlace format, which will allow new PSP users to enjoy games on non-progressive TVs by using separately sold cables.

Computers are an entirely different story because they're upgradable.

Okay, fine. Laptops. Cell phones. Televisions. Cameras. MP3 players. Cars. Radios. Stereos. Refrigerators. Take your pick.

White PSP-3000 without god damn Darth Vader on the back? FUCK YES!!!

Edit: Oh wait, what am I thinking... I live in America, meaning I'm under the reign of SCEA, who are a bunch of mouth-breathing morons. We'll never get the white one.

Eh, nothing game-changing that would make me ditch my 2000 model. One of the things I want, and would consider re-buying the PSP for, is the one thing that will never happen (a second analog nub).

Wait!

The Ratchet bundle comes with a Silver PSP-3000, what does color does the 4GB pack come with?
The 4gb entertainment pack comes with a Black PSP-3000 (and it includes a PSN voucher for Everyday Shooter).

there are already psp's out there that are pandora proof. so this will most certainly be as well.

hopefully, it won't take too long before it gets cracked by some means.

Cell phones. MP3 players.

Picked 'em! The rest you listed are items that pretty much get refined on a normal basis solely because no company expects a person to drop another couple grand on a TV or fridge for at least another five years. They're built for long lasting usability, so the consumer never feels as though they're behind regardless of the advancements that are made.

Why shouldn't the approach be the same with portables? Someone is going to end purchasing a PSP 2000 a week or two before the 3000 is released at the same price and they're getting less.

Because, personally, I WANT the PSP to get better. Hell, I wish Nintendo would do the same kinds of things, and offer up real updates to the DS instead of just cosmetic changes. I'd rather a platform improve over time instead of hold it back just because people who own older versions of it might feel left out.*

And, really, I don't feel the least bit sorry for somebody who buys a PSP-2000 today only to have the PSP-3000 tomorrow. Why should I? I've never felt sorry for Mac buyers who were in that situation, and I can't feel sorry here either. If I went out ready to pay money for a PSP-2000, I knew exactly what I'd be getting for that money. The announcement of the PSP-3000 doesn't suddenly make me get less than I was going to get before.

* obviously, things that directly affect the main purpose of the hardware shouldn't change. For example, Sony shouldn't just suddenly add a second analog stick, because it would directly effect every PSP owner.

Frankly, the "advancements" being done to the PSP really don't add anything that makes my PSP-1001 vB2 obsolete. My PSP has all the functionality of the newer models, and it is superior in some ways (like the fact that it looks like how much is costs, rather then being more toylike).

Interesting, I skipped the PSP-2000, this might be worth picking up. Right in time for the Star Ocean remakes, too. But Sony should be more concerned with lowering the overall price for their handheld, instead of making new SKUs and stuff... they have this problem with the PS3 as well.

In case some didn't notice that part of the press release. Because seriously, some of the comments in this thread. :/

That single "improvement" alone could be worth the $200 IMO.

Judging by the sales, this is the last thing they willl do.

The PSP-4000 that comes out next year and the PSP-5000 that comes out in two years will likely still be $170.

This adds "value" so that they can justify keeping the price up.

My PSP-2000 is still holding up strong so I'll stick with it. This'll be a good opportunity to get one for those who don't though.

I'm aware of that. Last year, Sony pretty much made it clear with the Slim that the only way they could possibly make it an overall better product was by making it thinner and lighter, being able to reduce load times, and adding the ability to play games and video on a television.

A year later, not only are they adding a microphone someone would otherwise have to spend thirty extra bucks on if they didn't have 3000, but an enhanced LCD screen that some can't upgrade unless they open their system and void the warranty.

thanks, but no thanks. i'm sticking to my launch psp's and ds' until the industry moves to OLED. i'm tired of subsidizing the LCD panel industry through their turmoils of 'this year's shit - sediment of last year's diarrhea.'

PSP 1000 alliance baby !

I jumped out of the PSP pool a few months after the original launched. I sold it to somebody, there weren't enough good games. The library is really built up now though. I'm really tempted to pick up the Ratchet & Clank bundle in October when it comes out. $200 for this baby, Ratchet & Clank, Echochrome, and a 1GB memory stick is a pretty good deal (oh an National Treasure 2 LOL).

They should worry about making more better / more games.
There is a huge gap between descent releases on this handheld
